newbie guide! hopfully this will help new players to like eve

SoulfreeWSoulfreeW Member Posts: 34

EvE online is a love it or hate it game, that simple!!

and the worste part of eve is beeing new so i understand why many people hate it.

Many players dont know see  point of eve ( cuz the point is to do what ever you like too) so in this case i deside for you..

YOU want to be rich and be able to fly in a cruiser!!

first thing first

when you are making a char and your totally new the game wont provide teh info you need very good. but its very simple

First you need to pick a race.

minmartar (me) has very fast ships and use guns n ammo as we know it and therefor dont use alot of cap. But is VERY slow to reload and target things.

Caldari is rockets and missiles ( dont know alot about other than minmartar but ill try as good as i can)

Gallente is drones drones drones

amar is one of my farvorites but i dont know Sh!t about em only that they use lasers. ( in my head they remind me of uber mana drinkers from other games)*cap

ALL skills are free to train so if you pick Gallente and dont like it you can at any time start learning to fly other ships and use other items. so dont panic.

now you need to know about stat points

alot of charisma will make you train social skills faster. social skills are things like: gain more standing pr mission and be a better trader AND leader skills.

alot of intelligence and memory  will make you train skills like mining and research and building stuff and electronic warfare witch is mostly support for others .

alot of preception and willpower  will make you a fighter

(i will recomend that you DONT have too low points in ANY of the attributes).

the rest of the char creation is easy just listen to the female voice guide..

woow finally ingame

the eve tutorial will start and it will take a few hours. you are free to turn it off just press ESC and turn it of in the menu. ( i will never ever recommend that you turn it of if your new cuz it shows VERY important info about the game).. but som players cant wait to get action

you wanna find some rats (monsters) and shoot em down?

undock from your start station and right click in space, find Stargates and jump to 0 on one of em.  then click on the stagate and  press jump in your overwiev ( top right corner).. if im right you proply will be in a 0,9 system now ( top left corner ) *** as far as i know there is NO rats in 1,0 and 0,9 space ***!  so we need to make another jump, find a stargate and jump. do this untill you end up in 0,8 system now warp to astroide belt. the belt is empty right? fly to other belts or planets , just have a look around. ( there is alot of ways to find the places but im just explaining the easyiest way for a totally new player to try ratting). when you find a rat shoot it down and have a look at your Wallet ( its in the menu in the left side of the screen).. WOOT you made some isk!!!  try docking on a station and open Market. press Search tap and type:

Civillian

a few items will appear.. those items are for new players and give you a small idea how different things work. now look at Civillian afterburner. a little blue (i) mark is shown press it. have a look at the pop up window and try to understand as much of this as possibel.looks like a item you could use? go ahead and buy it but try buying it 1 jump away. done?

now the item is your but its locatet in another solarsystem ( 1 jump away). open Assets ( left side of the screen) here yuo see all your items locatet aorund in eve. find your civilian afternurner and right click on the station/ system name, now press Set destanation and undock from the station.

in the left top corner you will now be able to see what the autopilot have in mind. press autopilot button in the buttom of the screen in the middle (A). now the Autopilot will take you to the system where your Civillian afterburner is but NOT to the station. when your jumped thru the gate open your assets again, right click on the station with the Afterburner and press Dock.

in the station open your items ( lover left corner) and you will se the afterburner. now you need to but it on your ship. in right side of the screen you will find a buttom called Fitting press it. and fit your afterburner ( if you cant fit it try look at  afterburner show info and have a look its proply cpu or power grid props). if you can fit on the station simply doubble click on your ship drag the afterburner from Items to Cargo hold and find another station.  hope you got all this cuz i have to move on to mining now.

make sure that you got a mining cannon fittet on your ship. warp to a astroide belt and have a look ( stay in 0,9-1,0 sec). fly in mining range of the astorides and make sure that you are close enough to mine alot of astroides from that location. now stop ship. and press  the People and places buttom in left side of the screen the press Bookmark loctation and name it  "my mining spot". now you are able to jump to this exact location from anywhere in this solar system. NIICE! when your ship is full there is 2 things to do. 1 fly back with those minerals. or 2 jettison all your ore into a Can.. A Can last for about 2 hours before it explodes and got alot more cargo space than your ship. ( this is ofc dangerus other player are able to steal from your Can but would most likly NOT do it as long as your 0,5 + sec )!

now you know how to make alittle money.

open your char sheet ( top buttom left side of screen) look a skills and find Learning. Learning skills give more attribute points so its a good thing to start out with training learning skills ( most players have all leraning skills at lvl 4). learning skills = att points = train ALL skills ingame faster!!  now open market and write ANALYTICAL MIND. you need this book, and later on you need a book called Logic try find Logic book in market.. see you are in hardcore need of some isk!!!! type Cruiser in market. a book called Cruiser should appear..you need this book too! And you need the ship "Cruiser" + insurance of this ship.. AND your need a Clone.  now you see new players got ALOT to do!

Agents and missions!

ehhm could someone else than me explain this??

I have played eve for 6 months now and im still learning the game.. plss correct if somthing is wrong..

    short story :)

EvE online is a advanced mmorpg who don’t tell you what to do in the game.
Many players don’t know see point of eve ( The point is to do what ever you like too) so in this case and this game try use that grey thing between your ears. Ye your brain

First you need to pick a race.
Minmatar fast ships and not that god attributes to start with.
    Caldari is rockets and missiles
    Gallente is drones
Amaar is generally towards laser and got nice attributes

You can train every skill in game if you got the credits to buy them.
    Attributes:

Charisma will make you train social skills faster, Intelligence and Memory will make you train faster skills for mining and research and building stuff and electronic warfare.
a lot of perception and willpower will make it faster to gain skill for a fighter

( recomend that you DONT have too low points in ANY of the attributes).
the rest of the char creation is easy just listen to the female voice guide..

    The EvE Online
tutorial will start and it will take a few hours. you are free to turn it off just press ESC and turn it of in the menu. ( NOT recommend that you turn it of if your new cuz it shows VERY important info about the game)..

Don’t ever whine EvE Online is a hard game if you don’t do the Tutiral

AND your need a Clone. Always make sure the clone is holding all your Skill Points
Now you see new players got A LOT to do!

I have played EvE Online from Beta time.

I tried this game and it was a blast... for about 2 weeks. Then it became very boring as everything in the game is repetitive. Agents 5+ jumps apart are handing out the same mission, just in a different location. Of course instead of running missions you could become a miner. As a miner you can enjoy countless hours of staring at your monitor until your eyes bleed, while you wait for your cargo hold to fill up. God help you if you want to go to a station 10+ jumps away. You may as well set the auto pilot and go make dinner, eat, watch a show on TV, and then maybe if your lucky you will have reached your destination.

If you like mindless hands free games then you will surely fall in love with EVE, however if you value your sanity you will never play this game. Don't say you weren't warned.

If  you played for 2 weeks and the only thing you found to do was missions and mining, then I would guess that you were waiting for the game to tell you to do something different. EvE will not tell you what you can do and as such Missions and Mining which are mentioned in the tutorial tend to be what people, who expect the game to tell them everything they can do, end up seeing as all the game has.

eve was fun, i played for over a year, but the things i found out while playing. made it sour very fast. and to see some of the incrimminations come true...........

eve is dev controlled, run by the devs, for the devs pleasure, thats it in a nutshell. you need only read dev blogs to see who really influnces the game and who assists certain corps. the biggest mistake the devs in eve made was to play their own game as "normal" players and not think the incredible power they have (devwise) would not tempt them. it did, an many many quit, including myself. i had 2 machs, various t2 ships and did quite wwell running lev 4 missions in my "carebear" corp. playing mind games with bob at NOL-M9 in my stealth until i get warnings from devs i am breaking the tos. which i wasnt , as it turns out the devs run that place and i pissed a few off obviously, (first warning sign, they took it personaly).

after that it went down hill, i began asking rokkkoku or however its spelled, cant remember, about joining and getting answers like, "you need to know the higher ups" or do you know any specials?"  wtf is a special? well we all know who they were reffering to now.

i refused to play agame run and controlled by the creators of the game when they themselves say players only, no influence from devs, lol, not.

so i gave all my stuff, which was sizeable to some very good ingame friends and left.

devs manipulating, controlling, ASSISTING, in an mmo is unnaceptable. by chance a dev was caught in a transaction, the others that were not probably got a good chuckle out of ovieur or whomever they decided to name t-20.

the devs can keep eve, it is after all, in the end, really only their game.

can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.

One thing I don't get why everyone thinks that they should put their review of the game into every post about EVE.

    The title:  newbie guide!

If you have anything to add to the guide, go for it. If you want to write an EVE review go create your own EVE SUCKS post and say whatever your heart desires.

    Finishing out my trial today

    Cannot stress this enough:
    Follow the tutorial
Yes it's long; but about a quarter of the questions I saw from fellow newbies were answered in the tutorial. Even with the tutorial I felt overwhelmed at first, but as deep and multi-faceted as EVE is, going without the tutorial is a guarantee of much needless frustration.

    Secondly,
    There is no Villard Wheel!
There's also (currently) no tutorial for invention, but between
    a)fully reading mission text and
b)asking any help after doing so
Most players can help you out.

    Noob MINING:

Find a ship (others can suggest) that has good cargo, at least 2 low slots, and can use at least 2 Mining lasers.

(I myself am in love with the Minmitar Destroyer, can power 3 miners, 2 small guns (to fend off rats while mining), descent storage+ extended storage in the low slots.  For fighting it has also been very powerful, making short work of the lvl 1 missions I have done.

This ship ran me 880,000, but I had that amount of money in 3 days of play.  Another good ship is a cheaper Min Frigate, forget name, that can do 2 miners.

Travel to a local asteroid belt, check what kind of minerals are available.  Open your market window (upper left screen) and do a search by type, see what nearest area is paying the best, or over average.  Click and bookmark that location, if it's in safe enough space for you, jump there and goto work!

The Minmatar Frigate with the most Cargo is the Probe. It also adds an extra percentage of cargo for each level in Minmatar frigates you have.

Please follow your own advice and make your own "i wuv eve because i am a sheeple" thread.

If people think poorly of CCP it is CCP's own fault, and if it means the game has to die due to their behavior, then it will die.

As to a noobies guide, why didnt CCP write a manual for the game?

I am surprised at the lack of documentation for the general players to use, while from what I have read here and on other forums, CCP was feeding BoB all kinds of info that nobody else in the game got. WHY? Are not all paying customers equal in CCP's eyes? (we can see what the answer is, it is "NO, our friends are more important then other customers, in the game").

First of all, I didn't say anything about "I wuv eve" context, I just asked separate flame from useful material; if people did think it was so bad then servers would not be at their all time high population and I don't care for your theories that CCP rigs those numbers. If you want to see a scheme to take over the world in every thing that you are not happy with, you will. If you want to flame EVE go for it, I don't give a damn but it surely doesn't belong in a topic to help new players.

As for why they didn't write guide to game...well lets see there is a guide on mining, guide on turrets, guide on dying links for which are located on every page of www.eve-online.com website.

Some people feel lost because CCP doesn't tell you to go do missions or mine or pirate or manufacture or anything else because the very point is that it is up to you.

    Addendum:
    Don't repeat my mistake.
When you finish the tutorial, an agent will be added to your "People and Places" screen under the "Agents" tab (the agent with the word 'Event' after their name).

That agent has a 10-part set of missions for you.
They are easy, they get you used to the flow of missions, and they give you a brand new frigate free of charge.

These are missions you can easily complete in your newbie ship --
The other agents missions you cannot complete easily in your newbie ship.
Anything is better than the newbie ship, and getting one free is best of all.

This will also lead you to the mission involving blueprints, inventing, and if you aren't careful about reading mission text you may think you need a villard wheel, at which point, see my above post.

If I think of anything more I'll come back and add.

Like most MMOs the longer they are out the printed material that they come with becomes worthless. ECM has been through about 3 maybe 4 changes. Threads like this help people with questions on systems taht may have been changed or added during the course of the games development.

something to consider.  eve has been out for a few years and has a lot of documentation on their website, along with the extensive tutorial ingame.

games that JUST came out *cough* vanguard *cough* have no official support other than tech support forums, a book that tells you nothing about anything you need to play the game, and links to player fan sites for information about the game, except that there's not enough fansites to actually have links to every class and profession ingame.

ccp did screw over a lot of people and do give lots of extras to people in their alliances (read - bod); but the game itself, is pretty interesting.   it's just that the devs are noobs in their playing ability and therefore feel they have to cheat in order to be uber ingame.

i like the game, but they either need a new, noncheaterfilled dev team, or maybe someone should make a better game than eve and folks would leave en masse for said game, except for the BOD'ers.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I don't care what the Devs do or do not do in-game in EVE, it adds content.  I wish more games would let their GM's loose to add a bit of randomness into the game, although obviously there do need to be limits.  Devs can simply be the extensions of the factions they play, I mean come on, like the Amaar are not building a titan?  Sure it can be cheesy and tacky if done wrong, but it adds a "what the?" element to EVE.   Like in UO when a dev would occasionally play a Lich Lord and attack an NPC city, drawing in skeletons and liches with merry abandon - instant event content.  Besides, I would rather have a Dev blow something up occasionally than to have CCP say look, things are getting too unbalanced between corporations, we're going to introduce a maximum skill cap or a class system

EVE does have some great material on their website, and if you are starting out, other than playing with light effects for your avatar picture (it's easy to overlook) the first thing you should do should absolutely be to comlpete the tutorial and the starting missions offered.

Vanguard is a useful comparison - they have a lot of pretty pictures on their official site, but nothing atually useful.  The network of games sites with useful information on Vanguard is slowly building, but it can still be a challenge to find useful and up-to-date information (Vanguard keep changing things), and you need to go to different places to find different information, such as advice on crafting or where to find an NPC for a particular mission.

A very useful tip however is to google the exact mission name string, it's surprising how well that can work.    In EVE, that often simply is not necessary, just go to their official site first, and don't forget that there are some very skilled players out there who are happy to answer questions in the in-game help chat channel or in your newbie-corporation chat channel.

Yes i have to agree witht he above poster there are a LOT of helpfull people in eve. Dont be afraid to ask just follow these tips in EvE Politness.

    1. Dont TYPE LIKE THIS. most consider all capital messages to be rude.

    2. No leet language on public forums unless you absolutly have to [as part of a joke for example or if you are demonstraiting for someone who asked for one].

    3. Tho there is no official or unoficial rule against mentioning games liek WoW expect some light ribbing if you say you love WoW for example. If somone however gets nasty to you feel free to report him tho.

    4. Most eve public channels are English only tho there are alternative language channels tho if you need to converse in your native tongue.

I hope this helps follow these tips and you should get some good replys to your questions.

    must say WOOW!!

its nice to see that my post is beeing used.

But once again pls keep the talk too the topic.

this is made to help out new players not to tell em why YOU think eve sucks. if somone reads this forum he already desided to try out eve so your "hate eve" post's have no point here.

afterall there is about 25 k players online  24//7 AND over 100 k registred users every month.

again eve is a hate it or love it game. 100k+ players cant be that wrong.

thx for the post's that actually help new players.. hopfully we will se more of em :)

Once again i see that people dont get this forum.. its to help out new players that is villing to give eve a try.. NOT to tell why YOU dont like eve. i understand that you a very angry at CCP but plss as a human beeing try to keep this forum to the subject.

you wanna know why this guy is angry at CCP?

As said by a poster before... Do All of the tutorial and do the follow up missions when you get the certificates,  If you do all 4 you will end up with enough implants to

A: sell for a Destroyer BPO

B: A nice cruser and the skill book.

just be careful of soem of the side quest offered, as they will PO a diffrent race. On the other hand it wil give you a fill for the other parts of EVE and if your lucky the bosses do drop decent  wep/mods once in a blue moon.
