How to stop gold seller spam

Blizzard needs to allow players to sell gold similiar to the station exchange, but without items (those would all be handled in game).  Basically, they would create an exchange rate of dollars to wow gold, and that rate would fluctuate as supply and demand dictate.  So for example, if I have a spare 1000 gold, I can check the exchange rate and see if I want to sell gold that day, or if I think the price may rise on another day.  Some neat features would be calls and puts, similiar to stock market options.

The fact of the matter is that there's nothing blizzard can do to stop the real money traders.  There is absolutely no business case for them to try to actively stop rmt, because people simply don't leave a game because of rmt despite their threats to do so.  For those that are actually anal enough to leave the game, their numbers are of such insignificance as to be negligible.

Even if Blizzard didn't do something like this, the rmt will still go on, and you'll still get gold seller spam.  If my solution were implemented, you would never receive another spam from a gold seller.  Why would you go to a 3rd party website when you can buy/sell from within the game?

You guys may not like the idea, but I guarantee you it would solve the original problem I proposed, which is getting rid of gold seller spam.

Or if people didn't buy it, they wouldn't sell anymore!

One day when I was spammed with some gold selling site macro I swiftly responded with "my cousin works for the same company, stop spamming" and they have yet to bother me since.

I'm being realistic here.  You're living in fantasy land.
  • I always believed their should be rmt servers and what i call purist server.  So that the purist type player can play and not worry about other players that have bought gold, items or accounts, but if you are a player that likes buying gold you can have a server where you can play and not feel ostrisized for buying gold, items, or accounts, quite the oposite.  Everyone on the rmt would all be like minded.  That way blizzard will only have to pursue gold farmers on purist servers.

The fact of the matter is, I understand both mentallities.  I have the time to play and as such acquiring gold, items, or getting to lvl 70 is not really a big deal for me, but I have a friend who is married with 2 kids.  He plays 1-2 hours a night.  its like clockwork, he logs in at 8 when his kids go to sleep and he logs out at 10 when his wife starts asking for quality time.  He can't do instances unless run thru by a lvl 70, he can't acquire alot of gold, or items.  So sometimes he goes to rmt sites for help cause he wants to play with the rest of his friends.  We don't see anything wrong with it.  He isn't a little 12 year old kid that wants to raid Onyxia.  He is a 35 year old man that pays 15 dollars a month to play and would like to atleast be able to run thru some content with his friends.

EDIT:  I forgot to add.  that with a rmt server you can have Blizzard run their own transactions.  That way no more scams and no more rmt companys like gamepal or ige.  On top of that Blizzard can take 1% of all transactions and keep it as a transaction fee.  Now blizzard is making more money and hence have more resources available to them so they can produce more content or more stable servers.  Win-Win situation.

Another thing I thought of is selling premade accounts like some other mmos do.  You can buy a lvl 70 priest for $100.  $30(Wow) + $50(TBC) + $20(premade lvl 70).  but he is only playable on rmt servers and as such purist players won't have to worry about playing with a player that doesn't fully understand his class.

  • I like the character idea, but I'd like more of an eve type system, where players sell the characters, not blizzard.  Once Blizzard starts selling stuff then you can see true inflation take place.  When people sell their own stuff, the game takes on a life of its own.

You can only whisper people past lvl10 on a trial account. I find alot of the new people to buy gold, I see all these lvl40s in crappy boe epics. Gold farming will be gone is a few years, people will get so fed up with it, that the games will have to start takinbg it more cereal.

heh trust me, that had nothing to do with your message. The responses you receive are done by automatic programs.

ye, I don't think there is actually a real person /who'ing lvl70s and copy pasting ads. Shouldn't be that hard to write a script to do that for you, also doing the same thing hundreds of times faster.

There's also number of addons to stop goldspam messages. I personally like SpamSentry. Works well and is pretty lightweight and easy to use. Of course it does not remove the problem but it sweeps it under the carpet for individuals :p

The only way to stop the farmers is gather up allllllll the lazy, pathetic, no life, no skilled, can't play because they are retarded gold buyers and send them far, far, faaar, away.

i dont understand why blizz doesnt just delete the accounts as soon as they spam?  i meen how hard would it be to make a script to monitor a lvl 1 that is send more than 10 whispers at once maybe that should bring up a red flag? maybe a then have the program view the name and if it is anything like sdjkflasdjf and thier are no actual words auto mute it and bring up a ticket for a gm? just a though? and why cant names be tracked even if they are deleted? are they? and if so why is spam still a problem?

Seriously you will never get people to stop buying from these companies. I think the only way to stop it is to have a system like the station exchange for every game.

I wonder how long people have been selling game items for money? I think I remember seeing this going on in Anarchy Online a long time ago, but I bet they have been around longer than that.
