Best MMO available atm?

Right. I have played very a many mmo's out there and at the moment i am not playing any, last one i played was LOTRO beta but didnt like it enough to buy. Just wondering what is the best mmo atm i mean like old school like SWG/EQ2/DAoC etc etc. Which is 'good' to play atm, as in player base, low level friendly etc. Atm im waiting for Warhammer since its more casual player friendly but if you can give us some info ta!

Currently playing : Darkfall
Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more

To start with, Dark Age of Camelot came out well before SWG and EQ2 so its very difficult to fairly rate the game. In terms of Generations your looking at:

1st Gen: UO, AC, EQ, L1.

    2nd Gen: DAoC, AO, AC2, Planetside, L2.

3rd Gen: EVE, SWG, Shadowbane, Horizons.

    4th Gen:CoH/CoV, EQ2, WoW, FF, MxO.

NOW: Vanguard, DDO -----> WO, AoC.

Now I know this isnt 100% accurate, but moreorless it covers the time periods when the games were released. Granted that UO was released abit earlier then EQ, I bunched it into 1st Gen becuase thats where I see it in my eyes.

Anyway... Of 3rd Gen and below. EVE is good, SWG is a load of shite, shadowbane is a waste of time and horizons is one to avoid like the plague. AC2 = dead. AO = not too bad, but getting on abit. DAoC, could be improved if Mythic put more work into the engine and the leveling system ( more quests please) and L2 is awful.

EQ IMO is still the best, just has been tough for new people to get in to.

    Check out this guild: http://www.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=167672&TabID=1419876

Might help make it easier for newbies to get in to the game, and tehre is a $20.00 retail box with ALL expansions releasing next week.

Granado Espada(Sword of the New World).  Best mmo to date, diverse gameplay, beautiful graphics, low system specs.  Its an extroardinary game.  Its been hosted in Asia for over a year to great success; testing should open up for the US this month.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Yea just keep in mind if you have issues with the game tech service sucks, I finally gave up they just give you the run around over and over again. Eq2 is decent but hardly casual and to be honest I was not impressed with the environment graphics the only thing that was good was animations and spell and combat art effects.

    Lineage 2 for PvP

    Everquest 2 for PvE

EvE for Sci-Fi PvP and Roleplaying

World of Warcraft for first time MMO gamers

City of Villians for people who work a LOT and have active social lives (and are sick of fantasy gaming)

anything else is pretty much a first place loser

I'd also add LOTRO for roleplaying plus DAOC & Guild Wars for PVP .

Other than that, this is probably the most comprehensive list you're going to see.

    Dutchess Zarraa Voltayre
    Reborn/Zero Sum/Ancient Legacy/Jagged Legion/Feared/Nuke & Pave.

There have only been two generations of MMORPG's:  The First Gen, and a step backwards gen

Lol, avid gamers. Haven't seen such a biased post in quite some time now, but lets keep it influential on the newbies, eh? Eve, AO... wouldn't be surprised if EQ and WoW were snug in the only good game list.

2nd-3rd gens are fit into the 2nd gen, alongside CoH/V, FF. SWG is unfortunately a current gen game, alongside WoW, but it wasn't a terrible game in beta.

You forgot Guild Wars, which i also wouldn't be surprised if it was criticized for not being able to jump.

thanks for all the replies fellas, but remember im not a newbie to mmo's been playin em for years n played most of the ones stated but they just got boring after a while, L2 has a free trial so mite try that but tbh mite just go back to daoc or WoW since the player base on them is good. i loved SWG back in the day but as evry1 knows here its gone to the dogs. sahme they cant bring back a classic server because id be willing to reactivate then! o well! they will never learn!

well for me, it's currently EVE hands down

was playing l2 for a long time, got sick of hack&slash grindfest, played DAoC, which I love but I got bored after a while, maybe cause of the fact that it's old and not so many people are playing : (I wish I played DAoC few years ago :S)

anyway, it depends on what you are looking for, if you want a pvp oriented game then I'd go for Lineage2 or EVE (EVE has much better combat system if you are not lazy to think about tactics lot of freedom so you can do what you want (well that can be minus for some people cause you can get lost in the game in the beginnings), and most of all, you don't have to grind to advance in the game)

on the other hand it needs a lot of patience, I got bored with EVE after 2 hours year ago... but gave it another try now and read a lot of stuff to understand it, glad I did it, it's a great game... nothing better than EVE at the moment in my opinion (especially cause almost every other mmo is fantasy grindfest )

Well you didn't leave a whole lot of info about your playstyle but if you want to go out on a limb and get away from all the hyped cloned fantasy grinders take a look at:

    • EVE
    • Ryzom
    • Maybe give Auto Assault a look (?)

    Keep an eye on

    • Tabula Rasa
    • Fallen Earth

"Old school" and your examples are pretty vague as SWG/EQ2/DAoC are all about as different from one another as black and white aside from the fact they were all tedious grinders back in their prime.
