That comparsion was just MY vision of how things are. I don't deny that there can acctually be Ferrari instead of VW. But when people decide to try out new game and take MMORPG.com poll as their main criteria to decide, it might not suit them afterall and in the long run, they feel same as i do. But there are also individuals, who see Ferrari instead of VW in my comparsion and thats quite common.
well in that case you should say so clearly cause as you can see, the analogy you've used just backfired (be more cautious next time, back fire is a b@#%h sometimes :P )
anyway facts as I see them:
-WoW is good
-WoW is not best
-WoW is not worst
-WoW is for masses
-WoW is made by the best gaming company
-WoW doesn't bring anything really original to mmo genre
-WoW has put together the good things from previous mmos, polished them and made them simple so everyone and his mom can play it after work, school, etc.

It did brought a lot of orginal things when it was released. All the WoW clones do not bring anything orginal.
its not that hard to figure out. to put it simply its because either people dont really care to vote for it and the ones that do like other games better than it. plus wow people are too into the game that they dont go to these forums to care.
anyways wow isnt all that great. its a lifesucker. this is why guildwars is on top. because most people who play it actually have a life.

that's cool! so now all those people who were trying to offend others by "YOU ARE BROWSING FORUMS! GET A LIFE!" are actually wrong!
that's awsome!
P.S. no I don't have a life, don't have time on it, I'm sitting at work and pretending I'm working so don't tell anyone,... so that statement can be actually true, awsome
funny how you just proved my point by sayin you play guildwars for one hour and wow for 150 hours.
that was just a joke about the lives thing. but i was serious about how people voted and stuff. anyways people always get made fun of on wow for having no life. to really do anything in the game you pretty much have to devote a great deal of time on the game. people like to make fun of it. even southpark did an episode about it.
Har Har Har : WOW The mercedes-benz of MMORPGs, could you have come up with a worse analogy ?
You dont see, by far, as many posts about any other games as you see about wow, i mean if people were to brag to raise their self-esteem you'd see many posts about Ryzom, Guild Wars, Eve .. but you don't
What do you think about this :
1) mature people know how to apreciate a good game
2) top mmorpg list isnt the best sold/ most subscribed to game list (thankfuly)

Honestly, some of the games above WoW are downright awful.
I would not call WoW the Mercedes Benz of MMOs, maybe the first Ford Model T would be a more fitting analogy. Most of the other MMOs I see as prototype machines, maybe even steam-run, that are a long way from being a successful mass produced product. The post WoW release failures I'd categorize as failed attempts at producing a mass produced vehicle and the successes as less popular rivals to the Model T. Butcher me if you like, but this in terms of the amount of subscriptions and revenue this is the flat-out truth. The MMO market is still in its infancy and Blizzard came up with the "Model T" of MMOs.
Its funny listen to people try to say which game is better, and why there game is the best. WoW was marketed very well to a younger crowd in the US, and they had the power to do so, because of there previous games sales. This does not make WoW the best, it is just the best marketed game out there.
I have played WoW for 2 years and have recently left the game, but I have also played L2 for 2 years and EvE, and mostly betas for the rest. Most people, WoW is there first MMO, and players never want to leave that MMO, or thats what they compare all future games too.
When players can finally break the cycle of looking at who has the most players, or accounts, and look at mechanics, and overall game play then you can make a decision on what games to vote on. For a person or player to really make a vote or poll by only ever experiencing one game is ludacris. How can you compare or say other games are bad if you have never played them? Also the age issue which alot of older players see, is that the child mentality that they are the best comes into play. If they are playing it, it has to be the best game on the market.
Now this is coming from U.S. player, most of the US is only focused on whats going on in the US as gaming goes. If players would do some research take a look at the most played PC game, you will see Lineage 2 beats WoW. WoW has the more accounts in the North America, but take a look at Asia www.plaync.com/us/games/l2/buy.html vs www.blizzard.com/press/070307.shtml . I can state that I am the best player in the world and make a site for it. Does not mean I am, but I can tell you I am. When players realize marketing rule's what you think, then you will understand.

Europe market is balanced between alot of games, and I envy them for that. I left Europe out for this reason. It was not on purpose to cleverly omit Europe the examples stated are better suited in the markets I chose.

It was not on purpose to cleverly omit Europe the examples stated are better suited in the markets I chose. I'm not sure if you meant that Lineage 2 "beats" WoW world-wide, but when the 2+ million subscribers from Europe are included WoW is clearly on top of overall subscriptions.

I am trying to figure the logic used on what you stated how WoW has more. Lineage 2 does in fact have more accounts world wide with 14 million that includes "Europe". WoW has 8.5 million world wide that includes "Europe". If its written on a website, and all over in other articles. come on can it be wrong?
The only way anyone is going to get better than WoW is to beat them at their own game. That game isn't being the best of anything except one thing... polish. To be honest, only two games coming up have people talking polish and that is Turbine's LOTRO and Funcom's AoC. Funcom learned their lesson from their AO release. Turbine lost interest in DDO once they landed the LOTRO IP, so LOTRO does have a chance. The best thing to happen to LOTRO was something that didn't happen. Turbine didn't land a new IP during LOTRO's development. I honestly believe DDO would have been a lot better of a game had Turbine not landed the LOTRO IP.
Blizzard doesn't need MMORPG.com hype meter type ratings to be a success. They already are. Blizzard has never asked their fans to pay for potential, they've always delivered. Was it bug free? Hell no. All games have issues Saying that, no other MMO game on intial release had more of a complete game than WoW. That fact alone seperates them from all the competition.
Like the old saying goes, "If you are going to do it, do it right or don't do it at all." Funcom is listening because of all the games out there coming out, AoC looks really damn good and polish is their focus now because the game is done.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
I would not take the top gmes list on this site very seriously if you are into PvP. The only game I see up there that has decent PvP would be DAoC. I don't even consider guild wars a MMO, much like I don't consider DDO or PSU to be MMOs either. Of couse this is all IMO.
You can't say that WoW is a bad MMO because some people can't afford it and others can't afford better like you can with cars. It is based on what that game offers. A lot of the veteran MMO players have been spoiled in my mind. I still compare a MMOs PvP to that of UO (I played from 96-00). It had some of the best PvP I have witnessed. You did not have classes where some newb has a good chance of beating me becuase of the class he plays and how long he took to farm some gear. It was based on PLAYER skill not character skill and how you used the strengths and weaknesses of your character. You did not blame you loosing a fight on the class you were fighting (OMG rogues are overpowered), you had to adjust your fighting style to be able to beat those opponents or tweak your build a bit.
Now on to WoW and why I believe it is not on the top of the list. Yes WoW is extremely popular. This does not make it the best game IMO. When I preordered WoW I looked forward to the PvP and having fun with my friends, Not raiding 6 days a week to get gear. When I quit I had good gear, I was on one of the top "A" teams for BGs (when I quit I was rank 11). I did not play the game to say that I had the best gear on the server and I was a beast. I started playing to have some memorable PvP and enjoy myself, not make raiding my second job. WoW let me down, It pulled me in with promises of great PvP that was balanced. Instead I found myself in a world of rock paper and scissors and idiot 60s killing people 30+ levels below them because they can't kill anyone their own level.
The origonal focus of WoW was lost. Instead of creating a great game for those who love PvP they made it into a grindfest.
What did WoW do right and why is it so popular today? They made a MMO that is easy to get into, easy to understand and is entertaining for those who have not been spoiled by other games that have offered amazing PvP. This does not mean that everyone who plays WoW cant PvP, but most of the serious PvPers who still play agree that they are just killing time while waiting for WAR / AoC / Darkfall.
