Lineage 2: Interlude Launches In N. America, Europe

NCSoft announces the release of Lineage II's Interlude in the North America and Europe. This free expansion offers some new material for players to explore. Read the details below.

NCsoft® today announced the release of Interlude, an expansion to the massively multiplayer online PC game Lineage® II in North America and Europe. Interlude is the next step in the evolution of Lineage II, forming a bridge between The Chaotic Chronicle and the game's next chapter, The Chaotic Throne. The Interlude expansion is free to all current Lineage II subscribers.

Lineage II, the gaming market's premier player-versus-player (PvP) massively multiplayer online game, has reached more than 17 million players worldwide since its launch in late 2003.

The Interlude expansion offers a variety of new challenges to players, including the new Primeval Isle, which is home to many new creatures making their first appearance in Lineage II. These include Wild Striders, Pachycephalosaurus and the deadly and powerful Tyrannosaurus Rex. Primeval Isle is a lush and beautiful zone, but in the tradition of Lineage II, offers tough tests and is not a zone for those unwilling to take on great challenges. Mastering the beasts on Primeval Isle will require strategy and teamwork from players and clan members.

Enhanced single-player elements such as the new dueling system will enable players to challenge friends to one-on-one fights or party-versus-party battles. By dueling, players can understand the nuances of their character better than they ever have before. In addition, there are no penalties for defeat in Lineage II?s dueling system, so players are free to let loose and test their mettle.

Also available for mid to high-level players are more than 150 new bonuses to enhance and customize weapons. Lower level players can take advantage of the new Shadow Weapons, a "try before you buy" service offered by the village weapon vendors. This new feature makes weapon selection more effective and simple.

"I'm very excited about what Interlude offers," said Adam Davidson, the North American producer of Lineage II. "It introduces elements of the game's next evolution, The Chaotic Throne, as well as unleashing dinosaurs. Who doesn't like taking on a T-Rex? Interlude also demonstrates the open-ended nature of Lineage II and shows off NCsoft?s ability to deliver features that give the game its signature depth and never-ending challenges."

Interlude also marks the three-year anniversary for this franchise in North America, where it has been steadily growing and reached a platinum status in November of last year.

On the epic collection box that I bought just the other day (which came out not too long ago) it says...

"Over 14 million subscribers - Join the battle!".

Now I have no idea what to think of this. Is this true?

On topic however, good news, L2 will continue to receive expansions for free and they are decent sized.

It's interesting, but when I tried it last, there were tons of bots everywhere.  I found myself doing the same missions over and over, and as a newb, I couldn't find a guild to join after looking for two weeks in game.

Graphics are awsome though!  If only it weren't click to move.  Yeah, I know you can use the keyboard, but you seem to get stuck when you are close to walls.

The bots have toned down alot since last I played which about a year ago. Yeah there arn't much quests in this game but quests in todays mmos are just the same except your being told to kill monsters instead of just doing it.

They introduced an academy system for guilds so they are encourage to recruit people at extremely low levels. When these people hit their second class change they basically graduate from the 'academy' and have a chance to get into the main clan (I think that is how it works). Of course it's all up to the clan leader. When you graduate the guild basically gets points(?) something along those lines.

Just thought i'd let you know.

I remember when I used to play how packed the servers where at times. There were so many people running around in town that you had no choice but to turn your graphics down. I used to play on Teon. I originated from Sieghartd. A great game.. Used to be the king of pvp. Not sure how much that has changed now. Some interesting new things in this expansion too. And the expansions will always be free. Ever since open beta, they promised that they would never change that. And after all of this time, they have kept thier promise. Way to go Ncsoft!

To clear some things up, Lineage 2 doesn't have 17 or 14 million subscriber. those are accounts created. its current active playerbase is around 1 million subscribers, making it the 3rd largest mmorpg in terms of subscribers, right behind World of Warcraft and Lineage 1.

1 mil that would be world wide? I will not believe Lineage 2 NA has even 100k active playerbase. Let alone 1 k.

I like how all the expansions are free and we allready have 6 of them. Hmm.. lets see.. Wow has one expansion.. and it's not free..

Sure wow has flying mounts now but you can only use it in Outland and it can't attack. Wyvrens in L2 can attack and you can fly anywhere. Too much grind tho..

This statement is wrong, it has about 1 million in North America. Overseas, this game is still the leader, far over WoW. People just can not concept that WoW does not appeal in the Asia market.

Ah well this is the situation in april 2006. I do not believe that the amount of subscribers rised dramatically, or a mass quitting l2.

The game still has some of its great aspect still, I always reactivate to see the new C? that comes out. When WoW started to come out alot of players tired WoW and left to move to private L2 servers, which did not help support the retail of the game.
