Well since forums for a game which really doesn't have that much info out for it lead to speculating on content threads or threads that are more of a chatroom for jabbering about past MMORPG experience(this one)... I want to hear what you fellas' most prefered(yea it doesn't always happen) playstyle is in MMORPGs and why !!
For me it is mosty solo and obscure ganking along the back roads. I think it came from Asheron's Call 1 (first MMO i played), where i immediately played on the FFA server and it was complete chaos, losing items all the time from being ganked and going through pain in the ass times with your character, but the only way to ever regain what you lost was to do it right back. I kept that up through DAOC, AC2, and WoW and plan to be doing the same in WAR.
Lets hear it.

I find it funny that the majority of the people selected "8 man" full group option.
The reality is, not many people where 8v8. 8v8 while fun and all, was not done by all. Hence the reason why people who did it where labeled "elitiest" by other players. World of warcraft also has not done much to keep the dream of team vs team warfare alive. (no areana dosent count) I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have been out with my pvp group and run into another group that was out looking for PVP and not doing a quest or going to an instance. Thats not saying alot about a game thats been around for almost 3 years now. I would wager about 2/3 of the people who clicked the "8v8" option only "wished" they where in 8v8 groups. You know 8v8 is your playstyle when you are in a group that LOSES and you still want to do it. Imagine how many people in wow would do areana if you had to all wear the same gear and you got no rewards for it? Imagine daoc if you went out every night and lost 9 out of 10 fights?
I know myself, I just dont like the zerg. DAoC I ran the 8v8 during its hayday and then turned to small group warfare when the 8v8 died down and things shifted back to keep sieges again before the mass exodus. In wow I still spurned the "zerg". While everyone else was doing 20 vs 20 in Hillsbrad and making tons of HK. My team of 3 would do the Felwood to Everlook loop all day long and just attack and kill any group we saw (hey attacking 5 level 58's if fun as long as your not all epiced out which we where not) It was less rewarding and we got less HK but it fit our playstyle.
I loved running all over the counrtyside with a close group of pals and attacking and getting into fights with anything we see. It reminds me more of gangwarfare. Watch the movie outsiders or boyz in the hood, thats how I look at pvp. I wonder Spoke to the lead content dev at mythic. when I asked him would it cater to small group because it was such a popular part of the game (yes Im allowed to be biased when doing an interview, Im a reporter..... not a saint) he claimed that the game would cater to "all playstyles" so I would assume that this would include 8v8. I dont see how they can pull this off though, because one of the things that made 8v8 work was that zergs all had to move at walking speed and 8b8 groups all ran at 200% speed. I have seen no speed chants in any of the beta clients I have seen so far. I am praying that they wont just create an 8v8 "battleground" and hope that would be something to appease the roaming gangwarfare type pvp they had in daoc.
I put on my "I-WIN" boxers. Thats pretty much it .
yea for the most part it is like this for me too, i'm solo until one of my 2irl mmo player friends log on and sometimes we pick someone up if they are good enough. Sitting with the zerg in DAoC is rather dull, but oh my sitting with the zerg in WoW is much more dull.
In WoW i pretty much spend my time now (well did, my account finally ran out today, thank you time !!!!!! ) doing an occasional AB bg (the only small group friendly bg) and mostly sitting around ganking folks in their capital city or ganking in world PvP.
And with DAoC in the bg's I would sit and wait no matter how long it'd take and get some great ganks at the enemy PK's, i didn't really see any other reasonable way. Well I'd jump into the keep if it was actually at the state of nearing the lord but otherwise i'd steer clear.
All depends what my objective is - that determines my playstyle for the most part.
I'm usually the lone wolf explorer type and sooner or later this gets me in hot water - like it did in the UO gankathon and the old days of EQ PvP servers. Except with those games it was pretty damn costly to get ganked, which made it altogether more sweaty. The lone wolf thing was actually more fun in UO, because I had a certain fear factor where people mostly left my bald-headed, black robe wearing, and mace weilding macer alone. This was because maces destroyed expensive armour at the time of playing, which put a few gankers off... EQ was a different ballgame while exploring around solo - I often needed help when my way was blocked by a bunch of gankers... or a necro and his 10 charmed skeleton pets demanding tolls at a zone line, which was funny.
Anyway, that's pretty much my experience of MMO PvP, but I've not yet played an RvR game. I'm expecting PvP to be handled in a whole different way to what I'm used to, and it sounds like a lot of fun. I'll be doing the solo exploration thing early on, just to find my way around the different places, find the hotspots, and go where I've always wanted to go in the Warhammer World. I'll be using that experience for my own benefit in some way later on, I expect. Knowledge does tend to lend one a certain amount of power, in my experience.
Completely counter to my experiance in DAOC. 8V8 may not have happened in every instance (5v7, 10v8, 6v4 what ever)... but it was easy enought to know where to look to find "group combat." it was also easy enought to know where zerg battles would be happening.
I think this was your server. I played on Guin, and it was not difficult to find what you were looking for.

I go for backroad soloer. It's simply my playstyle. In WoW my favorite class was Druid, why? Because with some +speed buffs and so on I could get a 61% travelform speed. This made me able to use the tactic hit and run.
With this tactic I soon realised I had never had more fun! I could just jump into any random fight try to kill the opponent, but if they got more coming to help I could run away and survive. So I set as goal to never die, and many times managed it. This really made it thousand times funnier for me to PvP, and I spent nearly all the time PvPing.
So my choice is backroad soloer/ganker, that's what I've enjoyed and will always enjoy. It's my kind of playstyle.

That sounds about right..... lol dmn druids. All you guys ever do is run.
Ever see that YTMND "CATCH THAT DRUID".... its priceless.
CATCH THAT DRUID!
Yep, checked it out so true, and fun.
My playstyle is healer for group PVP . . . so I dunno where that leaves me in WAR hahaha.
I played a druid too on WOW, PVP server, fully specced for healing and survival. My goal was to keep my group alive and be as damn unkillable as possible. I even wore that low level green belt that had % chance to put a melee attacker to sleep . . . good times. I don't care if I don't win, as long as I don't die . . . eat Travel Form alliance scum
I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

If all the important fights are in instas, wouldn't that draw the organized groups in there.and the whatever you wanna call them roamining.I doubt pugs will like getting slaughtered in instas all day long.
Btw doe's anyone know how they load players into instas,is it 1 grp at a time.
I simply prefer to log-in and solo over grouping. Nevertheless, I enjoy the option to group in certain areas in PvE and PvP. I think what is most difficult for me in my (and many, many others) enjoyment of MMORPGs is solo dungeons.
I would really appreciate any game that include solo dungeons. People simple do not want to group anymore (let alone raid with more than two groups!).
Great question.
Warhammer fanatic since '85.
I've always played with a couple of my RL friends, however we occasionaly fill up a group in DAOC and run it, but we've never been in a set 8 man, when we run as a trio we do very well, it's just being zerged or AJed that ruins us.
