Looking for a new MMORPG and need help.

I'm a long time Ultima Online player that quit right before AoS and I've played on free shards since then.  I'm terribly tired of Ultima Online and I've decided to move on.

I need help finding a new mmorpg but I have some specifics I am looking for.

Needs to be:

1) Preferably free or little cost a month

2) Skill based, I'm used to Ultima Online and I don't think I could handle a Level based/Grind 15 hours+ a day.

3) Not too graphics heavy and preferably not the Asian style of graphics.

4) Decent learning curve

5) Helpful people that help noobs

I think that really covers everything.  I know I am being terribly picky but after 7 years of Ultima Online, I would rather here suggestions than try every darn game.

Thank you in advance!

* The game doesn't have to have all 5 things, but a few would be preferred!

In short - there isn't one....

I could say EVE has a skill system but its not at all like UO....

Closest maybe, Voyage Century Online.... Upside is VCO is free to play.

Try The Saga of Ryzom. Has a skill system where you can level up what you like when you like Free trial on their home page.

I personally can't think of any...but...you might try out Guild Wars anyways...

It's still got levels but pretty open to tweaking, no monthly fee, graphics are pretty asian in style though...

I can't think of much beyond that right now...

On an aside...ManMadeGod...with that avatar of yours have you considered adding the sig "Kill a man and you're a murderer. Kill many men and you're a conqueror. Kill them all and you're a god."?

I know it's a forum for MMORPG games, but have u tried Oblivion?

It's not a MMORPG, but it's a RPG and it's really nice. It's skill based and easy to learn. The game is seen from a first person, and it will keep u captured for a long time once u start playing it. That's my recommandation.

Played the game for quite some time now, bought the expansion and finished all quests in there. I'm totally caught by the game, it's simply amazing.

Some choices that meet some (but not all) of your criteria :

    *  EVE Online  -  Hardcore, skill-based, $15mo and base game fee (~$30) and maybe expansion charges

    *  Anarchy Onlline  -  Free to Get, Free to Play, traditional MMORPG in SciFI setting

    *  Guild Wars  (Nightfall)  -  Pay for box (~$40), then free to play.  Semi-MMORPG with MTG style combat/spell skill system

Lots of others, but none that really meet all your specifications.

    Good Hunting

I thought it was common knowledge that CCP never charge anything for the extra content in EVE Online.

And it's actually €19.95 to buy the game with one month included for free.

EVE Online have quite a bit of what you wanted.

    1) It does cost €15 per one month, but if you're successful in the game and earn a nice bit of money, it is allowed by CCP to buy time cards from other players using the in game currency. Essentially making it free

    2) EVE Online uses a real time advancement system, which means that you select a skill that you have which you want to train and it it will train that skill until it completes. And it will do that even if you're not logged on to the game.

95% of all the skills in EVE online is on the market and avalible for purchase.

    3) The graphics engine in EVE is not very demanding, which make sit possible to play it on very low end computers with decent graphics.

They are also making a totally new engine that will be optional to use and improves almost everything in the game. Target for it was early 2008 last I heard.

4)I think a quote is in order here: "Learning curve? It's a damned brick wall!"

It might take a bit to get used to the interface and remember where stuff is, but once that's done there won't be too much else to bother you.

5)There are a lot of players in that want to help newer players.

There is a corporation called EVE University that focuses on training new players and also giving them some pvp experience early on.

There is also always the 14 day trial that you can try out.

    Hope this helps any.

    Eve?

The op said a decent learning curve, not an encyclopedia worth of tutorials and then some.

Auto Assault is a fast paced game with a great community. It also has a free 14 day trial with no need for credit cards. Go to their forums, sign up for a key and in a few seconds you'll get one, download client which is fast and check it out.

I'm not looking for games involving space ships or cars...  I want an Ultima Online-esque game.

Vegster, what games are you looking at?  I'd be willing to pay if it was worth it.
