How big is the world and how important is PVE

I played DAOC and enjoyed "controlled" PVP but I'm not a huge PVP fan. I've read a little about the Warhammer universe and like all the lore, the humor and characters and would like to jump in and play. I am curious though;

1. Will the game mainly focus on PvP and zones and PvE be secondary? Some of what I read made it sound like it would be extremely linear and boxed off?

2. Will the game have Dungeons and Raid like creatures (Avatars, Dragons, etc) or will the end game simply be PvP?

Any links would be appreciated...

WAR exposes players to possible pvp from day 1,all the good items they are saying come from conquest,Mtyhic is also a hard cap type of developer.Once players stats are %95 to cap they usually just pvp.No point in endless epic pve when u r capped.Im also imagining from what they say most resources and the best camps are in pvp zones.Somewhere they said 1 dungeon per race and a pvp dungeon(which will have better loot).Think this may not be the game your looking for.Theres so many links on this stuff ide be here all day.The official site has prolly enough on it anyways.

    1.  This game is all about WAR so even quests are related to the constant struggle between the races.   PVE & PVP all benefit the war effor for your faction.

    2.  there's been no official Podcast explination on if there's raids and dungeons.  Although interviews with designers has said if they do put any in the game it'd be a very small amount and you wouldn't gain gear that great, infact your best gear gain is from ransacking the othersides capital through pvp.

The march 2007 podcast better explains how PVE / PVP / RVR realms are set up in the game and how they affect the war.  It does not how ever cover any raid / dungeons at this time it looks like there aren't any being implemented since they aren't that important.   End game will be mostly RVR type pvp, the pve roll in the game is said to get smaller and smaller the higher level you get.   After all...Warhammer is all about WAR.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

    To the Op:

The world seems very small - a total of 33 zones is planned for release, including 6 cities, but to progress from lvl 1 to 40, you only ever need to go trough the 4 "tier" allocated to your race, + the lvl 5 tier wich is a full open pvp area.

Each zones "sounds" somewhere near the size of WoW's Barrens with several different hotpoints.

A glimpse at the size of the world: http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/podcast/files/WAR-pp_2006-11_Atlas.html

As for endgame it's pretty clear it's all about PvP and sacking the enemy city. Check the podcasts in the middle here: http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/home/index.php

Warhammer will certainly not be about joigning a guild and doing daily (boring) raids, but more about finding a good team and doing full time PvP, the pvE content only here to give you an alternative when you don't want to get slaughtered.

    My addiction History:
    >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
    >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
    >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

i still cant understand these new SI units of measurement, the "zone" for area and "level" for time. original SWG was 9 zones... and huge, planetside was 12? zones and even bigger, by comparison WoW is tiny, even if it has more zones. and as far as levels going and people saying "40 levels is too few"... how do you know? how do you know that you arent going to spend months leveling to 40?

so, the world has a radius of about a length of string and PvE will not be the be all end all like in some games, but more a fun and entertaining diversion by the time you get to endgame, much like PvP is in some other games. personally i hope to go on the occasional dungeon run with some mates to maybe get a new bit of gear or just for the experience, but my focus is PvP

The zones will be looking at 20% pvp, 80% pve at tier 1, while Tier 2 will be 40/60, tier 3 60/40 and all of the tier 4 areas will be looking at 80% pvp to 20% pve...there WILL be pve content from beginning to end but the pvp will become more prevalent the further you progress.  When your faction mounts an assault on an enemy capital city...expect to be killing lots of players.

Still, even then there will be pve content (afterall, the enemy "king" is going to be an npc).  Pve will be in the game, just to lessening degrees over time.  Oh, and yes, there are plans for high tier npc content/dungeons, but it's not going to be like WoW's 40 man raids, and there won't be many of them (as far as we know, so far)

Keep in mind, and this has kind of been echoed above, but Mythic has said that the FASTEST way to level is to do a mixture of both PvP and PvE content.  You can play completely PvP or PvE if you want but neither will be as fast as a healthy combination of both.  As far as I know they have not released information about raid content, but they have stated that running an instance over and over and over and getting nothing is ridiculous and they support players being adequately rewarded on something more than a rolling dice basis.  How this will turn out specifically, I don't know.  We'll have to wait and see.

[Here's a list of all the games I've played and/or my computer specs to show how much more seasoned or technologically advanced I am than you.]

Sounds awesome, with the exception of a team; I like to do things solo often.

    We shall see.

The game has rich history but if your a carebear this game is not ment for you. I did not say however its not for you. The endgame content will do more for your fun than grinding rep for gear will. most of the game is written with the end game war in mind. You can pve, and if your the pve master of the universe you can pve your team to a victory in each zone. Infact you could get a great carebear team, and create a guild of master crafters and quick quest bandits and tip the pvp scales in your sides favor for each tier. pve is part of the game, and pvp is part of the game. Thats why its called RVR. im trying to do anything I can to destroy the other realm. wether its covert scouting missions (quest) destroying an enemy outpost (pvp+pve) or just  straight up killing people (pvp at its finest)

as far as how big it the world? Well when you consiter the fact that you can also take over the enemy lands to play there, its quite large. I remember daoc was a large game, so I cant see why this game wouldnt be just as large.

I think that alone is a reason to stay away from this game I disagree. That he wasent a big pvp fan in other games dosent mean that he cant enjoy it very much in this one.

First off, I come from the same place as the OP. When I first started playing MMO's, specifically EQ, PvP was basically reserved for a game called UO. I honestly had no interest in fighting other players. I was a PvE junky and thankfully, SOE came through in that department with a huge landscape, hundreds and hundreds of quests, enough dungeons to keep anyone dreaming at night and race/class combinations to satisfy anyones desire.
I've played many games since then and I've come to realize that the luster that came with EQ is now gone and can never be duplicated. MMO's have become retarded in terms of PvE lately and whether they admit to having PvP or not, they pretty much all end up with it. So, let's talk about Mythic Entertainment and more specifically, their flagship MMO Dark Age of Camelot.
DAoC is probably one of the best PvP games ever made or as ME calls it, RvR which is realm vs realm. It's PvP on steroids and let me tell you, nothing compares. Granted, I'm playing WoW at the moment, but thats besides the point. I still vouch for ME's DAoC as the all time best PvP game ever made.
To make a long story short, PvP is now a necessity to keep MMOs alive despite my not liking it when I first came into contact with MMOs. However, it's just a matter of learning something new and finding a good group of people which you can associate with. Once you start to get the feel of it, how your guildmates react to situations, it becomes natural. Before you know it, you'll be out there with the rest of us, slammin your head on the keyboard screamin... "Die!! Die!!"
So yeah, Warhammer is gonna kick some MMO ass and you can choose to miss out on it and play another deadbeat MMO or... I'm just kidding, play whatever you want, seriously.

I played DAOC and Shadowbane. I enjoyed DAOC but hated uncontrolled PVP where your group cleric could wax you.

The great thing about this game is that PvP & PvE will be combined in quests.  Say your a greenskin and you get a quest  to collect 10 dwarf beards for the quest giver. You will have 2 choices, A) go up to area X and kill Dwarf NPCs to collect your beards or B) Go to area Y where Dwaf PC's will be playing at and PvP them for the beards. I think that this is an amazing feature to the game.
