    Um, but it is beta.

Say what you want about what you "think" it will be like on release. That is nothing more than speculation. there is no reason to hide behind beta as you say. It IS beta, and with beta comes downtime. They are being great with announcing it i think. But it IS beta... thats not debatable.

There have been exactly 2 patches ( today and yesterday) since Open Beta started on March 24. Seriously, go outside and take a walk.

So you are saying there will be no downtime on release? Think before trying to ride the high horse :)

And to the person who says there has only been 2 patches since open beta started, you aren't worth multi-quoting because you are just plain... well I try not to fling poo on forums too much.. but this is the second downtime THIS WEEK. One real "patch" and today's "transparent" patch. I can think of 2 other real patches and atleast 2 other "scheduled downtimes." So yet again, check your facts before telling me to take a walk.

And actually, there is a great thread over at the official forums where lots and lots of people are quite unhappy with today's downtime. Mostly people who end up playing during the day more often than night. I admit that Turbine must go with the majority of when people are playing, but someone did question why they couldn't have started the patch process at say... 5AM? Surely a LOT less people would have been affected.

Build a bridge and get over it....I cant even believe somebody with enough brains about gaming would even complain about this....what a complete @#@#@........have a nice day
  • cobble75cobble75 Member Posts: 3

    High horse?

Are you daft? You are speculating release during beta. Of course there will be downtime during release. In comparison EQ has been around for years and years and they still have downtime.

It will probably be a bunch of downtime during the initial few days as well. this is typical for a launch. Doesn't mean its a good thing, but if you, as an experienced gamer, dont expect that then you are just kidding yourself. They may have very little and suprise us all, we dont know that yet though... cuz its the future.

I hope there will be downtime after release, the game is good but not perfect. As far as people bitching I guess that is a good sign. If no one cared then that would not say much about the fun factor now would it.

If you honestly have to stretch this far to find something to hate about the game, then your instincts are probably right. Don't get the game.  I mean, it just seems like you're trying terribly hard to find any excuse not to like the game.

Why does everyone assume that me being a bit upset about downtime is my only beef with the game or something? I am not looking for problems, I am looking for reasons to stay in the game! I am just saying that things like this make it hard to enjoy the game.

This whole thing got blown out of proportion. I merely said that I was getting a bit tired of the downtime because it always seems like when I make it a point to play, the servers end up going down. I was bored because I could not login, so I came to play on the forums. Then the defensive mechanisms of the following groups triggered:

    a)Borderline LOTRO fanbois...

    b)Anti-troll/trollers

c)other bored people that had nothing better to do

So basically.. we all ruined April 20th

I can understand what your saying psyconius downtime can be annoying when you can find nothing else to do. the problem I personally feel at the moment with MMO's is that they all have the same backbone but  with a differant skin... where's the Originality.

I see the upcoming games and to be honest theres nothing new, nothing totaly differant to make me drawl. We need a brave open minded developer that can produce something never seen before..

I have played most MMO's and had to take a step back and play a differant genre mostly supreme commander, or don't laugh Football manager 07 just to take a break from doing the same old thing in MMO's.

So basically.. we all ruined April 20th Like Cerion said if you have to stretch this far to complain maybe the game and the genre is not for you. You should not have to look for a reason to stay .

Eh.. I am not supposed to savor the reasons a game is good now?

Again, I might as well have willfully stripped my "5 star" awesomeness here by complaining about something that irritates me about LOTRO, then as the thread fleshed out, pointed out my other minor irritations with the game. All of a sudden I am a hater.

Seriously, look at how you are treating me.. Like I am a random kid that got a new puter for Xmas, tried LOTRO open beta, and wanted to complain...

You are all fooling yourselves if you blindly say that I am "stretching" to find reasons to not like LOTRO.. Then when I clarify and say I am tying to weigh the good and bad.. Trying to highlight the good after the badness was horribly blown out of proportion.. Now I am stretching to find reasons TO LIKE LOTRO....

Please make up your collective minds.. You all seem to think alike :)

I had very high opinions of nearly everyone with a post count higher than 25 in this thread(really not trying to sound elitist here, but when I see someone who can't form a coherent sentence making their 3rd post to tell me to chill out.... well.. I know we can all agree on this).. Now that the lifetime membership runs through your veins, I am a lesser troll because I nibble at the hand that feeds..........

I didn't see anyone disrespecting your opinion... they just disagree with it. :)

I give it some credit still technically being in beta, but again I just really don't see the downtime getting better on release. Only time will tell, and if I don't commit, then I suppose I won't know. I still don't see the need for downtime 48 hours after a very marginal patch. Especially when they called it "scheduled." Scheduled downtime would be like WoW's Monday morning maintenance runs. I didn't login to LOTRO last night, so they may have said something about it then, but this morning was the first news of today's DT.

I know no one was blatantly disrespecting my opinion, but most of the replies seemed fairly cookie-cutter borderline fanboi responses that I see when someone is outright bashing the game. That is why I have completely avoided any threads with blatant disrespect to LOTRO since February :) Neither side of the battle is particularly meaningful or worthwhile, especially after how long the game has been "polished."

I still admire Turbine's efforts, as I have yet to have any horrible server lag or glaring issues. They have also addressed a lot of issues that the playerbase has been complaining about(although most of them would have been worked out just as quickly without the frustration... ie the crafting and repair economy.. the tweaks that have been put in were made after analyzing the data that had to slowly come in from whatever arbitrary starting point they put in).

I am just being a spoiled brat because I had it set in my mind to play some LOTRO today, as the clock is ticking on my free time. I had envisioned 3 or so level 15's with pretty well fleshed out crafting. RL is a bitch.

To be honest I am the same way.  I can't seem to stick with any mmo longer than 2 to 3 months.  I have played pretty much all the popular ones out there and none of them hold my attention for long.  I am about to give up all together because I know deep down I will never find one that I will stay with.

I refuse to take the defeatist mentality. No game(MMO or not) will ever be exactly what I want until I can make one myself. And then it will be so frustrating and take time away from actually playing, that it won't be satisfying either.

That being said, I try to enjoy what is out there as much as possible. It is doubtful any MMO will be as enjoyable as DAOC was for me in the beginning(EQ was my first MMO.. DAOC was my first good MMO). LOTRO has come damn close, but the same reasons it is enjoyable at times, are the same that really hold it back from being groundbreaking.

I initially read the original post and thought to myself  "He's kidding, right?"  Reading further into the post I realised that "He's not kidding."  Then I came to this line, I am just being a spoiled brat because I had it set in my mind to play some LOTRO today, as the clock is ticking on my free time.

LOL.....this is the root of that original post.  I do know what your're saying.  I had a half a day at work on friday and couldn't wait to come home and track down some nodes of gold and rich iron.  Frack.....servers down til 4:00 pm that is BS.....lol...I didn't however  log into MMORPG.com while i was a PP boy about it and post my dismay.  Thank goodness.......too funny.

Well thank you for being the first person to really grasp my not being too serious about this thread.

As to the underlined and comic sansed(LOL!) statement, I think a little whining because I like a game I can't play at the moment is far better than the standard:

    LOTRO IS A WOW CLONE!#!

VANGUARD IS STILL IN BETA TEHEHE

AZN GOLDFARMERS R KILLIN R COMMUNITEEZ

This is why I should probably have a disclaimer in my signature that 95% of the time I START a thread, I am being mostly facetious.

Actually, I think you realized you made an a$$ out of yourself by complaining about downtime in beta.  Don't make matters worse by trying to play it off as something that it isn't.  It makes you look like a fool then.  Just my opinion...

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
