SWG - The rise of Phoenix from the ashes!

SWG is actually becoming THE mog to be in now - it is the still most complex (even after the dumbing-down with NGE) and immense universe there is on the market. EVERYTHING in the universe that is SOLD is crafted by actual players! (Excluding loot ofcourse.) This includes weapons/ armor/ vehicles (including jetpacks)/ starships/ housing/ civic structures/ gardens/ food/ drink/ clothing/ and even entire player cities.

And now the return of the CH (Creature Handler) now renamed BM (Beast Master - to avoid confusion with previous profession). But not just a rehashed return - a full fledged PROFESSION (45 point expertise expense) glorious return!

And what makes this different from the rest of the mogs pets? Heh, glad you asked: Mutations. :) :) That's right - this is a painstakingly labour intensive and COMPLEX profession (that's right COMPLEX - not dumbed down!) that requires INTELLIGENCE and a LOT of experimentation, tweaking, and time.

Here is a preview:

Ofcourse most professions have been polished up to decent standards recently - so its actually very much fun to play each different profession now.

Best part is - since the expertise investment is full-fledged 45, what this means is people will have to seriously juggle with their expertise points and this will introduce BACK to the game:

1. Hybrid professions.

2. Non-clone templates - ie all professions will not be 80% be the same anymore - depends where the expertise is utilized. :)

AND - there is talk about a DROID COMMANDER expertise in future publish as well. :) :) More hybrids!!!

EDIT for update:

Here is a nice consolodated BM/CH/BE FAQ:

And here is part 2 of the BM crafting complexity - finally nothing dumbed down!!!

And no - I dont work for SOE! (If I did atleast my 2 accounts would be free!)

If they would only merge many of the servers together, I'd think about playing again.

Most posts I read on the new BM expertise tree is that they forget to mention that it's not only CH but also Bio Engineer and Creature handler in one package.

Please link this success of this to us here.

I cant seem to find ANYTHING on the web that says this about SWG, nor have I seen a post about this by the President of the company.

Last post from him involved him saying they are making merging servers a Priority.    So please, post this info (Of course not of the SOE boards please because as we all know.... that is well........lol  a joke of sorts.)

I mean 1.4 years of the NGE being known as the worst thing that has ever happend to a MMO , I guess if you even sneeze at it , that it could be better then what it was perse.

I just need to see the awards, posts, population where it was to buy into this.

OH WAIT I HAVE A FREE TRIAL -- like all vets do right now... HMMMMMM

I WILL GO SEE THIS GREAT TURN AROUND YOU SPEAK OF THEN!@!!!!

(I will post screen shots of the rise of the bird thingy you mention)!

    Hey Isk,

I wouldn't use your free trial yet. I would wait until Chapter 6 is released. That probably won't be for a while yet. I am playing the game right now, and it isn't any different than when you last came and checked it out. You did come and check it out within the past 6 months right? I could have sworn that you said you did.

Anyhow, there are the same things to do now as there was to do 6 months ago. GCW, RP, and PvE.

MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW

    Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.

Yes I have -- BUT see thats ok...

These people talk of success... so I want to see it --

NOT SAYING IT WILL BE SUCCESSFUL later, crap I have heard that since the NGE went live.

Then the next thing you know, most of the Dev team quit, the creator of SWG leaves, the maker of the NGE, the pitch boys for it leave the project and then the lead guy of the team is removed and the president of the company announces that he is making "Server Mergers" a priority..

SO YEAH./...  I want to see this success they speak of.

Hey look... all I want is the PROOF they speak of???

Is that asking to much?   I will LOVE OR ENTERTAIN having a escort through any server including BRIA itself my old server to show me popualtion and the level of gameplay we once had.

Like I said, LET THE PRODUCT speak for itself and someone prove it to me.

    I think thats far.

Well, I don't know about all of that. What you value is irrelevant if another person doesn't value the same thing. Point being that obviously SWG has a dedicated crowd of gamers that love SWG the way it is and SOE will always make money off of them. Whether SWG has 350k subs or just 100k subs, doesn't matter. Because in the end, it only matters if you are having from. To the OP, the game is a blazing success. You are asking too much of a forum reader, when you ask for proof. On the forums, you are nobody and I am nobody and the OP is nobody, so we aren't obligated to provide proof to convince you of anything. If you don't believe him, then that is your choice, but I am sure it doesn't effect his gameplay one bit. Even if SOE brought back Pre-CU servers, the population will never be what it was Pre-CU. In fact, the numbers were dwindling at a steady pace since SOE implemented the Jedi system. So SWG would have ended up with the population it has now anyways. The CU and NGE just made it happen faster.

The point is, is that you are a nobody on these forums and can't expect someone to be obligated to convince you of anything. If you want convincing, use your trial and see for yourself. But like I said, I wouldn't use it until after Ch. 6 has been released.

The NGE and Pre-CU are different games almost, so comparing one to the other isn't reasonable. Subscribers do seem to be increasing, but it could also be that people are transferring to the more populated servers. Your old hang out spots might be empty, but the new hang out spots aren't. Basically, if you want to find population, you have to go to Eisley, Mustafar, Restuss, or any other place that has a concentration of PvP, Legacy, or other quests.

I suggest the same thing to every person inquiring about an older game like SWG. It is best to join a guild and hang out with them. No game out there still has a large enough population to satisfy what you compare to the Pre-Cu times, that has been released for over 4-5 years now. SWG is what? 4 yrs old now. Yeah, SWG is at the point of every MMORPGs life where the subs drop down to very little and you have to join guilds to find population because most people are vets and are max level.

As it stands, SWG is still the most complex 3D MMORPG to date. Complex, meaning that you can be a combatant or non-combatant and have a true purpose in the game, player ran cities and economy, and plenty of RPing tools that have no direct effect on the game itself, such as furniture and etc. Even with the 9 professions, the game still is the most RPing friendly game out there. I play SWG still, because I like to RP in the Star Wars Universe. When the RPing stops, I will stop paying. But as long as the servers are running, I doubt RPing will stop.

The truth about the situation is like this. SOE or SOE/LA did, back before the NGE was released, what alot of people do now, and thats put on tinfoil hat and become the sky is falling crowd. When WOW made it's entrance into the mmo world, SOE/LA pulled the trigger and developed thecu and NGE to counter the people that were leaving. Was it a massive migration to WOW or other games, i don't think so.

They jumped the gun, and in their minds, those subs that were lost were going to be gone for good, hence the creation of the cu and the NGE. What they lacked was the foresight of actually knowing their customers and how strong of a SW fanbase they had.

The facts about all mmo's, is that after playing the same one for awhile, some people will get bored, even though they love it, will try and test some new water. Does that mean they are gone for good, nope. Sci-fi fans and fantasy fans are two differant type of gamer. SOE/LA, just didn't understand that, and i still don't.

The amount of SWG vet players that are sitting on a fence , just moving from mmo to mmo, just wishing that SWG was still the game they let go for awhile, is in the hundred of thousands. I tend to beileve as well, some of the people that was leaving also had RL issues and didn't leave for another mmo.

The majority of people that left, and would love to return, won't, because it's not the same as when they left. If SOE/LA would have left the game as it was, added in a better noob tutorial, threw in a ridiculous amount of new content, and kept fixing bugs and such, the game would have  more people playing now, then in the it's pre-cu hayday.

The people that are so convinced that the game is better today then in the pre-cu times, are just not being very realistic. It's like going from, living in a mansion with all the modern day conveinances, to living in a shack and using a outhouse. Removing all the things that made the game unique and funner, and trying to push the NGE as a better game is just a plain out travisty.

Yep -- I just spent two hours of my time in game on Bria looking around at everything.

YEP -- your right... its asking way to much for proof of the game being a success.

I have never seen ANYTHING with the Star Wars name on it -- in such a sad state of play.   UNREAL -- 6 people in THEED!!!!!!!

SIX!; W T F???  Guys?????   Coronet had 3????? COME ON???   ITS BRIA FOR CRAP SAKE????

DO NOT LIE TO ME.... DO NOT TRY TO FOOL ME...

I was there , crap restuss only had 14 people and Eisley -- well, I TOOK SCREEN SHOTS GUYS.... COME ON!!!!!

I just want people to be honest, quit telling people lies.

This thing is so bad now it's just not funny anymore.

    Its just not.

The problem is that even today there are no other games out there that give you the depth and play choices that SWG does.  Yeah, it's a whole lot less now then it was before, but what other game out there has the depth?  Maybe Ultima Online does, but that game is even older.  Most games are just the loot and level grinds.  Granted SWG today has that, but not to the extent of WoW or EQ or any one of the other loot, kill, rinse, repeat games.

I like choices when I play an MMO, and SWG gives me more then most other games do.  I played WoW for 2 years.  How I played it for that long I don't know.  I was bored for at least the last year I played.  The only thing that kept me there were the friends I played with.  Well, that just wasn't enough after a while.  Their first expansion, while addressing some of the raid or die issues of pre-expansion, just didn't do anything for me.  It was more of the same loot, kill, rinse, repeat.

What do we have on the horizon?  Who knows, but a sandbox, classless, levelless, open ended, non-linear advancement, non loot based, player run economy MMO must be coming at some point.  And maybe it will be Sci-Fi, because darn I'm sick of Fantasy...

I'm really glad that the devs are implementing this pet system.

At least players will actually have something other than NPCs to interact with.

...well what can you expect from people who quote themselves in their own sig?

Has anyone seen any new numbers on subscriptions lately?  I checked MMOGCHARTS.com but that information is so outdated it's hard to tell anything.

I've always wanted to play and have been looking at SWG a lot lately.  But it's hard to put out the money without any hard evidence on where the game is headed of late.  I know a lot of people left after the NGE, but I've heard the numbers are going back up again.

I heard you can get free money in the game and now there is pink horses to ride on too!

I saw 6 people at the Endor outpost TODAY!!!

I think saw 11 people in CORONET!!!!   IT WAS SUPER...

Your right, going from 1 or 2 people there to 6 just might make it better...

Winner of the worst MMOS goes to.... the NGE and SWG..!!! http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm?loadFeature=1034&bhcp=1

This includes weapons/ armor/ vehicles (including jetpacks)/ starships/ housing/ civic structures/ gardens/ food/ drink/ clothing/ and even entire player cities.

*drool*

If you are not into the high fantasy games, or stylized cartoonish games (cough), you'll probably find your way back to SWG sooner or later.  I was in a rather large guild on Kauri, we still all keep in touch on our old guild forums, and the people that went back to SWG are there because they can't find anything else on the market worth playing.

I think the game has far more playability then it did a year ago, but its still light years behind everything else in content, rewarding gameplay, and now the overall game economy.   While there are more things you can do in SWG, that alone doesn't make the game fun.  This game really needs a strong community to make it work, and  I hate to say that all the antisocialite PVPers work against this.

Anyways, good luck with Pokemon Strikes Back... lol mount are Star Wars, but magical pets that attack on command are not.
