Nothing was cloned or copied really, cause WoW wasn't that original in the first place. Blizzard just finetuned mmo making 101 blueprint and added their own lore (which the copied from Warhammer).
Most folks that are complaining on other mmo's like Warhammer Online or LOTRO for their unoriginality and that they just copied WoW, is 14 year old little boys that didn't know mmorpgs existed before Blizzard released WoW.
LOTRO is just doing what most other mmo developers including Blizzrad does, they went to the library and got their blueprints aswell.

After having played WoW since beta, and having played just about every other MMORPG since the invention of the genre, I have to admit they are all starting to play alike. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. I tried LotRO. I was nice to be able to just jump right into the content and use all the familiar controls. Smart idea to have it work that way if you think about it. Lower the functionality learning-curve and make it more accessable for more people. Difficult thing to achieve now is interesting content... and of course make it look good. That's where the true test is now. Blizzard obviously has something figured out there if they have by far the largest, most successful MMORPG to date. I myself love the game, but won't be heartbroken to see someone else take the title of 'best' away from them. That's why I'm here... to see who that might be. Just my opinion of the whole thing... take it or leave it.
you make it sound like Warhammer invented orcs and stuff when they didnt, when in fact Tolkien was the one who created the standard Orc race that we all know and love...he created all of that in Middle earth which was created before Warcraft and well before D&D
I fully agree with you Elgon and as I said Blizzard finetuned mmo making 101 and added their own lore which has alot to do with the success of that game in the beginning, now it's just a snowball getting bigger and bigger cause of their own success. People wants to know whats all the fuss is about and they get hooked :-).
My post may have sounded like a LOTRO or WoW flame, which it wasn't, just tired of reading xxx copied WoW in every god damn game development section at mmorpg.com. WoW isn't inovators in genre, so no one can copy from them, not even the graphic style is their own.
I will play LOTRO for a while atleast for the enviroment and lore, but I need some PvP to keep me occupied for long. To bad cause really I like this game.

I think most MMOs nowadays are Everquest clones. LoTR & VO both are extremely similiar just slightly improved and more soloable. I've been beta testing MMO's since the beginning (M59) and haven't seen anything revoluationary besides M59, UO, EQ, Planetside, Shadowbane, and World of Warcraft. I think the next generation mold breaker will be something between Planetside and World of Warcraft...and I'm crossing my fingers for a hardcore pvp server The game that has my attention right now is Darkfall and Conan. The rest seem like clones but I'm open minded and hoping they prove me wrong.
I wouldn't say it's a WoW clone. Like others have posted before, I think there's a lot of core similarities between most fantasy based MMO's and WoW being the first one to polish most of them up and put them into one game seems now to be the standard to compare other games to. I've seen little things from multiple games here. The glowies from CoH/CoV missions are here, including the pause to search when you click on them. The buttons along the bottom from most every MMO I've tried are here. The standard quests from most other games like EQ2 and WoW are here. Health and mana bars like other games are here.
What sets LOTRO apart though is the world, the story, the cutscenes, the classes you can play, and the socially encouraging environment they've set up (i.e. inns, sharable music, RP flags, etc.). It may not be a revolutionary game, but it's a good game, and one I think that people should be proud to play.

Oh god that was sooo funny!!! i so need to write that down....fact of the matter is dont say stuff, try to back out of what u said, then get mad at someone for correcting you...im not the one that needs medication, and i sure as heck dont live with my folks. Now get outta your parents basement and have a walk...see what the real world is like for a change.
There are some evolutionary elements. The music system, voice support, and especially the instanced quests.
Relative to WoW specifically, a very deep and complex lore (of course), playing within an overarching story line, and graphics that are two years more advanced, while still playing well on older machines. Whether larger than WoW or not is not important to me, but it does seem to have more places of interest.

I might be blind of just plain dumb but where in that case did I ever state that Games Workshop would have ever invented the race of orcs or anything else for that matter? In fact did I ever write something about orcs in my first post? I didn't even say that Warhammer was that original. I'm sorry but you made something up in your head and corrected yourself.
