Do Ashrons, WOW and/or DAOC have a wide range of spell casters?

I played EQ for quite a while and was thinking about a new RPG. Since Ashrons Call and DAOC seem to get alot of good comments I was thinking about one of those. I usually play spell casters and dug both enchanter (especially illusions, looking like an ogre to check out their city was too cool !) and mage. In EQ I liked that there were necromancers, enchanters and mages with elemental pets in addition to just the standard blast um' wizard types or clerics. What, if any, variety of spell throwers are in the Ashrons, WOW and DAOC?

The fun thing about AC1 is there are no classes. Only skills. Its really cool because it opens up alot of new strategies and unique characters. Such as a melee character will have item enchantment and life magic so he can heal, or take away other peoples health etc. And the item enchantment to buff his weapons.

Or just go pure mage and have all four magic skills. I'd pick AC1. More open freedom.

Yeah AC has a totally different means of spell casting for sure. You have Item Enchant, Creature Enchant, Life magic and War Magic.

War is typical damage magic like 4 elements and the 3 physical types. However in many diferent formulated uses, such as area effect, whirl blades and on and on. The Creature Magic is the most vast of spells and is basically attribute and skill based good or bad...A very good list of spells in Creature spells. As for Life, well I think Divine is similar. Protects of elements physical armor and such, heal and regen and the like. And of course Item magic which is basically self explainitory. It is used for buffing and debuffing weapons, armor and the like. Vulns and Impet of all elements and physical or for weapons it can affect speed, damage and more. Also what is cool is there are weapons in the world that ignore buffs you have on which is cool for PvP..

Now the graphics for the magic in AC isn't all pretty and stuff like it is in DAoC. However it has it's simple way for you to get to know who is getting hit with what. Just by color and shape you can tell if a fellow is getting buffed debuffed and if the cast is either from the physical or elemental form. Also if you are ones with words you can also tell what is being cast by the words used. But not most know except a good PvPer :)

However for the magic in DAoC, Well I haven't really played it much but I can tell you from watching my son play it two different realms the spells look really nice. However IMHO I think NwN has the best looking spells :) Infact I think if you are looking for a braod range of "CLASSES" that do  cast spells and not just a game like AC where you can cast no matter what you are. I suggest  getting into NWN and checking out the good list of Mods on NWVault at IGN. You have very excellent list of class based spell casts, plus now with the expansions you have Epic levels and prestege classes now.

Is NW - Neverwinter Nights ? I played through the third act but never tried any of the mods. AC sounds pretty broad, 4 types of magic, that anyone can pick up. Thanks for the detailed magic system description image! I was trying to guess about the magic systems of AC, DAOC, WOW by looking at the classes on the companies home pages but it was kinda limited.

What I am kinda looking for is variety of spell types beyond just damage throwing or clerics. Having a variety such as summoners, enchanter/charm types and necromancers I think makes it interesting

World Of Warcraft has 5 spellcaster classes - Shaman , Mage , Warlock , Druid and Priest.

I think the names speak for themselves so I wont explain about each of them. And as much as i know, they all have pretty good spells. I haven't played DAoC , nor Asheron's Call , nor Everquest, but I think WoW has pretty much to offer in the field of magic , so if magic is your choice, don't be afraid to try World Of Warcraft.

Hope you can handle AC1 graphics. It's older than dirt. . .
