How do you choose your charc name?

Hiya! Just wondering how you guys choose your in game charc name? isit by name generator, other games or famous books?

    Lol, to me name of my charc is very important, i will delete my toon if a few levels up i dont like the name of it.... paranoid right? But i feel that in order for me to spend so much time with a chrac i must like what i choose.... anyone out there like me? :)

    Toally ooc but arctarus was the name of my shaman in EQ during 4 years.



    Choosing my name is based on FOTM.

    My addiction History:
    >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
    >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
    >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.

    That's not paranoid, just picky (unless you believe bad things will happen to you because of the name you chose). I do the same thing sometimes - if the name just doesn't fit, or doesn't feel right for the character I've created, I scrap him after a few levels.



    I usually use online name generators, or consult lists of names organized by nationality or ethnicity. Sometimes I tweak the name a bit to suit the character or the game setting.

    I either choose masked drugrelated names or simply go with some form of my general name "Xs-142" which was the name of my first HDD ever.

    Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

    by theme, well race background, language and look, then choose something (made up) thats suits it, but isnt strange... No random stupid names, or something that doesnt sound like a parental of the species would name its offspring.... Orcs are fun in that way "iron foot" "bear claw" "blood fist" etc etc...

    Hmmm names, well for SWG i just used their name generator the first time and when it came up with a name i liked i stayed with it for like 5 years or so , still is my name in SWG , but yea its generally based on which game i play , but yea im picky about my names as well when it comes to a character im going to play for a long time, don't want something that sounds like you have no imagiation or whatsoever,  f.x. i play lineage2 now and i see more and more people with hilarious names like , IKillForMoney , Pk4Ever etc. , name has to fit with the character, female character - female name, goes without saying for the rest ofc. :) , also depending on race ofc.

    depends on the race, gender, personality but when stuck or have to come up with lots of names in a short time i consult to an index of an atlas.

    I need more vespene gas.

    I always have Mara in my name. Sometimes just Mara if it's avaible or then I add something to it.

    I've been CaesarsGhost since I was 10 or 11... so it's more of habit.



    But my characters ingame are normally Urukian lore.

    I sit at the character select screen picking different strings of letters and putting them together till something sounds good :)

    It took me a while to come up with my name i deleted many accounts on games becuase i dident like the name But if u see the name chrisatron on any online game its probobly me =D

     

    i dont think anyone else has got it lol unless peeps that steal it of course =(

    Mostly, I work with names of people I know, combining them and adjusting them to the specific setting of the game.  A friends first name, with a relatives last name, with alternate spellings, for ex.  Occassionally, in designing a backstory for the character, an original name just hits me, and I go with it.

     

    I always start with the backstory of the character, though.  I have that almost completely fleshed out before I work on a name.

    Wow! you guys sure have tons of imaginations.... like the 1 about thinking from the background story... still struggling with a name on the name generator now though :(

    I just have a small lists of names that I use. If one's taken, I use the other.

     

    Zatoro, PunkMonk, HTML Internetbum, Relnak Turnesto (SWG ), including a few others.

     

    How I think of the names.. I don't know.

    I dont know for other people here, but i am roleplayer, so the choice of name is very important to me.

    And it surelly can not be nothing leet , like Ikillforfun etc..



    I also for example deleted lvl 38 WOW character because i changed my mind about his name...



    So problem....



    I usually use names of my D&D roleplay characters...so i kind of recycle few character that i like ...



    Like Rattrap <- being one...





    Anyway, i am trying to come out with name for Hobbit Burglar that will be my main in LOTRO ... i am thinking about it for weeks now !

    I dial a random telephone number and pretend to be doing a survey.  I ask the person if he / she has a pet.  If so I ask the name of the pet.  Then that is my characters' name.  No redo's allowed, I have to take the first thing I get.

    I think I need a better method though.  I'm getting tired of names like Mr. Nibbles and Woofy.
