if i am a liar please post a single screenshot that proves there are 500 players on bloodfin cause that is heavy...no, wait i forgot soe changed what population is represented by "heavy". what, 50? maybe 75? well i guess that would be heavy for a single player online
game. that's all it is now anyway.
i see the trees just fine, however you are imagining the forest that used to be.
Good one. SOE did not change anything. Post a link before you make baseless statements.
Bloodfin gets a Heavy Load quite often.
The forest that is SWG has been ruthlessly burned and exploited by greedy corporations (LA & SOE) in the past, what you can't SEE is that this troubled forest has seen recently a lot of replanting -- and very real signs of it once again becoming a lush thriving forest.still no screenshots of the "heavy" servers.
Cause they dont exsist..Anyone at anytime can get a free trial and see for themselves..
Nikoz78-You just bashed on Isk and pretty much flamed him for a E-opinion LOL..Funny thing is like most NGE supporters(very few) You get so riled up cause you have to defend SWG..Why would you have to defend SWG if its so wonderfull now? Wouldnt the game stand on its own without your overly fluffy opinion.?No matter what we had to say negatively about it? So why would you need server merges on a heavy server?? Um if bloodfin is heavy then it wouldnt get merged, hence the term heavy!! I find it funny that your all for server merges which contradicts your statement that bloodfins population is heavy..Let me explain what server merges mean..its combining low populated servers into one big HEAVY one...
So you love SWG good for you i did as well until the cu, so freaking what..Alot of us have been in since beta and well know better than to go through another pack of lies and changes..But what i dont do is come here to post how great something is when its not.I dont hate or care about what new old thing they are putting back in..Cause unlike you i cannot pay for such a disaster as the game is now..It still has the same core issues it had 4 years ago, so whats new?Well i cant think of any new things TBH except super low pops on every server..
Thing is i loved SWG and spent many hours on 4 accounts,,And i never once in that time posted one negative thing about the game till the cu..When the combat changed in both is when i protested and complained..Both revamps were worse than what we allready had, that is a fact..So we asked for bug fixes and content and got 2 bad revamps that the majority hated..So after the mass exudos your finally getting content.....LOL.....None of us in the vet forum care what SOE does to SWG now at least not me..The only change i care about is back to when the game was fun and i had a full friends list..And yes i used a free trial to see all these wonderfull full changes and full servers..The only full thing i saw was the Bull....
the most amusing thing to see is they say the gathering points have changed ..people don't gather like they used..but what they forget to metnion is there still have to be travel hubs as even with JTL and ITV's you still need to go through starports from one planet to another and you should see heavy traffic through startport if the servers are as busy as they are claimed to be..on scylla is it DEAD ..the only hub you can see anything in is mos eisley and the only time i saw as few people as is seen there pre-cu was in the first 20 minutes after a server reboot.
Huh? Everyone has a spaceship and launches from the starship terminal. There is no longer any need to stand out in the middle of the star port with a ticket (unless your ship is somewhere else).
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
Didn't SOE state they changed how the server status was calculated after the NGE when everything was showing 'light' at best? I'm pretty sure the scale used to calculate server load was changed because every server was looking bad and the best Bria, Ahazi, and Bloodfin were hitting was 'medium'.
Anyway, what's one 'heavy' server among all the 'light' ones, empty friends list, empty starports, and empty zones prove? They could make it so 100 players could have a server at heavy but anyone signing in would know there's an awful alot of empty space for so few players.
Sure Blix might be better than the feebs Helios, Rogue5, Chris, and all but unless he's packing a Time Machine in his pocket I'd say it's far too late to save the sinking ship called SWG. He might be able to slow the bleeding for a bit but I don't think he'll be able to turn the game around.

You guys just don't give up. Do you seriously believe crack pot theories like the one quoted above? Jesus....
SWG is not going anywhere. It will still be live in 10 years same as EQ, DAoC and others. They are fixing the game and thats a fact. And who knows what the future holds? SWG is heading in the right direction, that much is certain.
Enough fantasies of doom.
If you like Star Wars and MMORPG's then it's a no brainer. If you can't get over the CU/NGE then so be it. I understand. Nostalgia is very powerful.
Star Wars Galaxies is to this day a fun, complex and huge sandbox MMO. And with Blix at the helm things are looking way up.

I'm pretty sure they stated as much around the same time changes were made to sign in when supposed server numbers were getting posted on the forums.
Even if I'm mistaken, so what? Are you going to sit here and say the theres all kinds of people flocking to SWG? That they're talking about server merges because the games doing so well? That it's not considered a laughingstock by the public, gaming companies, or anyone who's taken 10 minutes to sign in? That the servers aren't a desolate wasteland?
You seemed to have overlooked the fact that both EQ and DAoc are fun, aren't loaded with bugs and lag, and have a good game design with alot of players. That usually has someting to do with games that have lasted 10 years, don't hold your breath on SWG though.
LMAO and you have the gall to talk about fantasies?
Oh and you're right, SWG is a no brainer, it was built by and for folks suffering from that condition.
Yep Eisley -- on a Saturday in the middle of the day-- Also -- LOOK at the classes... look at the people there lol... man... SO the newbie area, the only cantina that I was told is used by all the entertainers I ran into and pretty much the starting place for anyone and everyone. Now impress me and go take a screen shot of THEEDs cantina, CORNETS Cantina and both city star ports.. BUT wait.. then go to Daths Cantina , then go to Lok and show that star port- I have fridays Screen shots just waiting to go... so yeah.. please show those. (You did quit too right? I thought you did Barron or did you fold?)...... I know the lemming pool has a strong pull into it at times, but you of all people I thought did use some logic.
Classes? What did that have to do with the photo? There were Jedi, commandos, spies blinking in and out in a puff of smoke, Smugglers, dancers in the cantina (and weirdly enough about 10-15 in the med center, couldn't figure why there). There were a few Traders buying Highend loot and trying to sell stuff averaging about 15 Mill or more. Crystals, pearls, mounts (THE most expesive things being sold), holo's, paintings and more. The beggars were even out and get this, even a online gold farmer was advertising his website there for selling credits. I had to add him to ignore to stop the constant, 2 second spamming.
Now where in the photos I posted or the comment I had, did I say anything pro or con SOE/SWG/Playerbase? Yet, here again you roll in throwing down the logic/smarts insults to it after YOU yourself went in the the game and started... what .. 3 threads on posting shots after you logged into the game this week. No one posted a shot yet even after 6 pages of "debate", so I logged in and took a a few shots and threw them up there. I even corrected comments by a proNGE person earlier in this discussion about expansions using direct quotes from the SOE staff. Did I insult or go in a tirade because I knew he was wrong? No I simply posted the facts and pressed. I debated even posting the shots because I KNEW as soon as I did the anti-SOE Klan would come rolling in demanding I run all over the universe taking shots. Take what you want from the shots, it shows what it shows. Folks will read into it and mold that into what their preconcieved notions about the game.
Here again I see you are holding the empty starport shots you took as a supposed trump card or something. Why? Why all the drama? Take the screenshots, post them and let the discussion continue. It took me all of 30 seconds to post mine. Really Isk, I would take your discussion as somewhat serious if you wouldn't go into one of your insult laced-rants whenever someone has a comment or thought different from yours. Hell I didn't go that route of making a comment, I simply posted the shots and moved on. If you can't even respond back without insulting, then I suggest holding the comments. No good comes of it and honest debate then goes out the window.
Take what you want from this. Post the screens or don't. I didn't take sides, I just showed what I saw, when I logged in. I look forward to sensible discussions/debate from both pro and anti SWG crowds in the future.
*Edited for crappy, post mid shift, 4 hours of sleep filled writing. I am sure there is more, but I am too tired to look for it now.
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"
Just out of curiosity, did they ever get the elusive smuggler revamp? I am very out of the loop with swg now but just wanted to know if smugglers can even smuggle yet. That profession never did make sense to me but yet I kept it forever in hopes they would actually do smuggling for jabba or some other criminal faction. I did make lots of credits back when spice was big so it wasnt total loss. I would make a fortune just standing outside tusken fort selling crates of muon gold on bria.
Yes, Smugglers had their revamp, SWG now has a smuggling system
As for Isk, do what I do, put him on block. Saves on eye strain
BaronJuJu, That really is impressive for post -NGE. Honestly. However, we all know that Theed, Coronet, Bestine, Dantooine Mining Outpost and some player cities all looked that way. Even on a "medium" server in pre-CU. Man, I'm from Lowca and I remember cantins(S) filled like that, not just Mos Eisley. It is undeniable how different the populations are in comparision.
I agree, pre CU those were some of the big spots to hang out. Coronet especially was maddening on Bloodfin, as I am sure all of the servers. But lets look at why that was. Coronet starport was the central jumping to darn near everywhere in game. Going to Dath from Tat? Coronet Starport. Dant to Lok? Coronet Starport. JTL removed a portion of that crowd now that they were able to jump anywhere but you stil had folks using the shuttle system to travel and whats better than advertising to your audience during a 10 min wait for a shuttle (Didn't you hate buying ticket, running out only to see it pulling away as you get near). Now? There is no real reason to go there other than if you live there or are doing the Legacy quest. This is definitely a result of the NGE, but also a result of JTL. When it first came out not alot of folks had it, so folks still used shuttles. Nowadays you can get a starter ship right off thebat with the JTL missions. With that folks don't need to go through Coronet for anything and it was only a matter of time before that place (and others) would see less and less business.
Bestine on the other hand was pretty damn light on Bloodfin. It wasn't really used much other than the occasional Vader appearance and JTL trainers. There was some business and housing there (mine to be included) but compared to the other places it was right above Doaba Gurfel, that place wasTHE definition of a ghost town Starport city. My original character started in Doaba, my character had no idea what to d and NO ONE was around to ask. It took me days to get enough money to just buy a ticket out.
Dantooine was almost comparable to Coronet, but that only depended on what grouping rule set was being used. I remember the days of "solo groups" all grabbing high paying missions and making a small fortune (If you survived) in a day. But that place fluxed alot with the removal of the group payouts, group sizes and the decline of crystals once everyone had what they wanted.
I would say from what I have seen, Mos Eisley is the new "Starport Hangout". All new folks start there instead of choosing where to go, so its easy to find beginner groups, new guild members, etc. What I didn't expect was the high levels hanging out there as well. I expected them to be be more in Restuss( Which they were, just not in large number like Eisley) and Mustafar. Was it preCU numbers? Absolutely not, but it definitely had a much larger increase in population than when I left 8 months ago. Folks there seem very happy and content with the game and are looking forward to Chapter 6 and the Beast Master skills and new quest line.

And alot has changed with the city's but we'll get to some of the city changes in a min here...
Almost every MMO I've been on or have played the playerbase never hangs out in the same place. Most of the time there's one main city everyone 'hangs' out in. In Ultima Online this city was Britian, however you do have players hanging around in other city's as well. On Great Lakes on Ultima we had one city that the Role Players hung around in. Most of the time it was Yew or Vesper, PvPer's stuck with Moonglow, other's stuck with Minoc. On other severs the playerbase would hang around in other city's that's just the way of MMO's. In SWG's case Mos Eisley is the 'hang out' of the playerbase. You have new Players coming into Eisley, it's an easy to remember layout, alot of Traders do set up Droids and shops near by as well.
Other city's just don't have that anymore. Cornet was never 'as big' imho as Eisley or Theed, it had a harder layout if you will. Theed now has Level 90+ Imp NPC's walking around in it. It's not the 'pvp town' that it was as most Rebels don't want to deal with those NPC's when fighting.
The other thing to remember is that SWG is a older game on the market. Yes that does play a big part in the Player Base. In 2003 when SWG came out yes your going to have alot of players flocking to it. At that time SWG was "The Next Best Thing" Ultima Online came out in 1998 and had a ton of Players, Everquest came out and took a good chunk of UO's Player Base in 1999. The case now is we have WoW, and WoW has taken a huge chunk of every games Player Base.
SWG is never going to have WoW's numbers, hell chances are SWG will never break the 400k Player Mark now. But the Player Base isn't 'dieing' it is getting bigger, just slowly now.
Hey iskareot. You insult people while hiding behind you keyboard. That says all I need to know about you (and I've never even met you in person). Twerp.
At any rate, you strike me as disrespectful and pretty immature. If you are in reality over 30... damn bro. It's time to learn how to carry yourself like a man.
/peace
You still miss the point....
And yes..... I would consider describing a NGEr as pretty much somthing I would be ashamed of as well.
It's your dollar... and yes....what I think of the entire NGE playerbase is what SOE wanted to gain...
Do not forget that... you can thank Nancy, Julio and all of them for making the game more fisher price, if you will -- for you.
Not us.... we wanted it hard.... now you get what you accept.
Your confusing immature with angry and fed up.... it's your defense... thats ok, but like I said... it takes all kinds and since my days with the 101st I and military school I can tell you .... at times you need to grab your sack and muscle up to the bar and see things for what they are.
Like I said before -- it takes all kinds in the world, I understand that... but still you would think people would be less blind at times.

Interestingly for those saying the game is dying/dead, the Summit tickets (being held at Celerbration IV) sold out within a day
Interestingly for Fanboi's saying the game is successful/packed, they'll spew ANYTHING they can to "prove" the game is doing well, even though they have no proof. Let's see: About a Dozen Senators have quit in disgust, there are still "goodbye" posts everyday on the OF's & they're doing their 3rd "PLEASE come back!" free trial in a year... yeah, the game is doing SO well....
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
What does it matter if the server is packed if everyone is hiding from each other out in the wilderness? When i play a mmo i want to se other players. I dont care if it is a million player online i cant se. Pre cu you could go to coro, theed, mos eisley, squill cave, tusken fortress, mining outpost, jabbas palace, several player citys, etc, etc, and still find people everywhere out in the wilderness. I never had to use the server status as evidence to convince myself that my server was packed.
A wise statement indeed.
MMO -- not fps multiplayer... as it has proved to be a failure.

Yes... all 100 of them did sell out.
Your correct... but just recently they only had what 15 people show up for the last summit meeting in San Fran?????
LOLOLOL
SO yes, the Star Wars Celebration will insult SWG even more so because I have been to those and the last one was a joke to SWG.
If Star Wars fans loved (I mean real ones) loved the GAME then there would be 1 million players in SWG right now including myself.
I would EXPECT more then to have to always "WAIT" for a chapter or "WAIT" for somthing to get better....
So yes... I could see 100 people going to that...from SWG.
I would go myself.... yet again ......

WHERE????
SO ME TAKE SHOTS ---- AND 15 people in EISLEY DO NOT COUNT!
All this talk -- SHOW me the areas that it's "FILLING UP".......... Gosh, just post them.
Yes I know Eisley Cantina and area -- Yes --- it has been that way since launch......so again, people keep trying to make excuses of where people are -- this I don't understand.
See at one time.. you did not need to know, you would see them.
I mean this is like saying there is a CH necklace that you can get on Mustafar -- and then... well.....we know how that worked out right?
As it is..... there is not remotely the amount of people that the game had... is it getting more? No -- it is getting old players that once again have hope or A FREE TRIAL YET AGAIN...
The new player or avg gamer would not give this game a chance in Hell... hence your numbers and server mergers to come..
So with that said... let the product speak for itself and Dev team that is rotated out and getting of the Titanic as we speak.
I here Tim Timmerman left as well....now, that is almost funny too.

Last year, development was focused on getting new players into the game. It failed, both due to the horrible state of the game and the horrible reputation the game and SOE have.
This year, development is going to be focused on bringing back former players. It will fail, mainly because SOE is still unwilling to do the only thing that would have a chance of convincing a large (by no means all, probably not even half of the players who left due to the NGE) number of former players to resubscribe to the game (classic servers).
The game may be better than it was at the end of 2005, but it still isn't anywhere near as good as it was at the end of 2003. By adding horribly mangled versions of features SOE felt had to be removed to make the game 'fun', SOE is taking a turd and adding expired whipped cream to it. Sadly, the current playerbase accepts this as a good thing. The rest of us, the former players, we don't want the turd, and we won't be back until it is flushed.
Your the one who is a liar. Bloodfin is packed RIGHT NOW. Over in the Current Player forum someone posted screens of Bloodfin hitting "Heavy Load" status at the server select screen (it's like that a lot of the time).
You are the one that is delusional.
Pre-nge ALMOST EVERY SERVER WAS LIKE THAT.
Selective memory much? Crowing that ONE server is somewhat populated? Even those pictures are pathetic. You could find that in Theed, C-net, The Outposts. Every server.
That's not just glass-half-full optimism, that's Glass-is-moist-so-it's-overflowing.

And calling it a sandbox, as you did earlier, is the ultimate blasphemy. There's no sandbox anymore.

Interestingly for those saying the game is dying/dead, the Summit tickets (being held at Celerbration IV) sold out within a day
And the torches and pitchforks sold out within a half hour.

Sandbox A: Actually more like a group of sandboxes attached together almost overflowing with sand containing lots of toys. Person playing in A can move from one part of the box to another anytime the person wishes. The person is allowed to be creative with the toys using them together or taking them apart and putting the parts together to create another type of toy. A few guidelines exist as to how the person can use the toy, play in the sand, and how much of the toys and sand the person is allowed to play with. The person can choose to play alone but can also play with others. There are plenty of people playing in the sand so finding others to play with is easy.
Sandbox B. Sandbox B has some sand. There are a few toys but a person is only allowed to play with one toy at a time and has very specific instructions on how one is to play with the toy. If the person wants a different toy, the person must trade in current toy in order to get the new one. The person must wear a sign while playing in the sandbox saying the experience level the person has in playing with sand. The sandbox is laid out in experience zones determining a pattern for moving about the sandbox. The person can play alone or with others. There is very little reason to play with others, there are not many others around (although one is given visors making it difficult to see the entire sandbox at one time and one is told that there are plenty of players, they are just in other parts of the sandbox), and, due to the leveling system, one is encouraged to play mainly with those of similar or slightly higher playing level.
If one considers B to be a true sandbox, perhaps even preferring it to A, then I guess SWG is still alive and well in the world of Sandboxes. Me personally, I liked Sandbox A and I am looking for another A to play in.

I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
1st heavy server since NGE?

1st heavy server since NGE?
www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/119641Didn't SOE state they changed how the server status was calculated after the NGE when everything was showing 'light' at best?

Yes, Smugglers had their revamp, SWG now has a smuggling system
As for Isk, do what I do, put him on block. Saves on eye strain

And alot has changed with the city's but we'll get to some of the city changes in a min here...Almost every MMO I've been on or have played the playerbase never hangs out in the same place.

Wow, I guess that's why the NGE is so hugely successful, and why they dumbed the game down to compete with WoW...

A wise statement indeed.

Yes... all 100 of them did sell out.

Selective memory much? Crowing that ONE server is somewhat populated? Even those pictures are pathetic. You could find that in Theed, C-net, The Outposts. Every server.
That's not just glass-half-full optimism, that's Glass-is-moist-so-it's-overflowing.

Blasphemy.

The game now is nothing like the one Raph created. Was a big part of why he left.
And calling it a sandbox, as you did earlier, is the ultimate blasphemy. There's no sandbox anymore.
