free trials.

there is something about free trials i dont understand.... why wouldt u give everyone a free 14/7 days trial to a mmo?

isnt it better to take 1 years of playing from 50.000 ppl, insted of taking the first month from 200.000 ppl?

maybe the games ALOT of ppl are looking for is allready made, but they never tryed it becuase they wouldt pay for something that they wasnt sure about was a game for them.

u can get demo's of most singleplayer/multiplayer games.

so my point and questions is.... why dont every mmo got a free trial?

    Yes, I wonder to.

    I hate when i cant try a MMO before i get it. Especially a MMO that have been around for a year or so

     

    Maybe i even would try Vanguard if a found a trial.

    Most MMO's today do have free trial periods or have a bunch of "friend passes" laying around.

    Which game do you want to play right now that doesn't have a free trial?  WoW has one, DAoC has one, CoV has one, Shadowbane is free, Anarchy Online is free, GuildWars has one.



    The only games which don't have free trials have buddy account.  You can usually get someone's buddy key by asking on that MMOs forum on MMORPG.com

    This might have to do with server balance/economy/limits/restrictions depending on the game. Dedicated trial servers should solve that problem if it is the case. Just my two cents...

    The Matrix Online has a free trial.  I've actually downloaded the client, but I have yet to sign up.  Vanguard has buddy keys which can be used to activate a 10day free trial.  If you want a Vanguard key just go to the Vanguard forum and ask. 



    Free trials are a standard of MMORPGs now.  The problem you face is that you have picked one that doesn't follow the standard (FFXI) and one that hasn't reached the point of offer one yet.



    Most games offer free trials after the game has been out for a while.  WoW didn't offer free trials until it had been out almost a year (I think).

    Where did you find the MxO free trial? Fileplant is closed and their site doesn't have anything except buy. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

    ok. il go abit more into details about what i mean.... a free trial is a good commercial right? so why "hide" it in as a buddy key and limit it ? why not make a big commercial saying "14 DAYS FREE TRIAL DOWNLOAD AND PLAY NOW" ..... the only thing i can think about why some games wouldt have free trials to everyone is because they just want ppl to buy the game, and dont exspect to keep players because they know the lack of contect in there game?

    I agree with the above, give us examples of games which don't have free trials, because I'm a bit lost.



    You're right when you say editors don't communicate enough about these free trials (be it on the web, in press articles...).

    from my experience with free trials its a sucker move to get money because if you got to call to cancel it and after the 14 days are up they start charging you monthly

    Seems to me that more and more MMOs are getting off of the "Credit Card Required" 'Free Trials', so this doesn't happen. Though, we all know a few dearly loved companies out there that still insist in making things difficult for their potential (and current) subscribers now and then.
