They Fixed memory leaks!! Im overjoyed.

When I first started playing the open beta from my pre-order I could expect to crash every 2 hours give or take 15 minutes. It happened over and over and over and over etc... It got to be on vent I would just say well Lotro froze up again I gotta restart the game and i'll be right back in (Which kinda sucks cuz it caused me to die a few times making me lose titles =( and failing quests). It happens as it is beta, but ever since the last patch I have not crashed once, and I am overly exited. I played for 7 hours straight the other day without a crash!

Ok, enough of me being happy they fixed this before release. Hopefully they fixed more than just the one that caused my game to deteriorate and got a lot more of em as I read other people had different crash errors due to memory.

You sure it was memory leak? I never had any trouble with it, no crashes etc.
  • Yeah, it was a memory leak. Open up my system resources and see 700,000 k used yeah i think its a memory leak haha.

Now the game runs cool and clean at 100,000 k or so.

A friend of mine still said his computer locked with a reading of 400,000 k which kinda sucks, but they fixed whatever it was that was screwin over me.

Memory leak.....hmmmm, have not ran into anything resembling a memory leak.  Found the code to be highly optimized and quite bug free as a matter of fact.  Using the DirectX diagnostic tool by entering "dxdiag.exe" at the "RUN..." option in the start menu this is what comes up on my rig.  Double checked things with the Windows Task Manager also...<Ctrl> <Alt> <Delete> simultaneously.

WindowsXP and a bare minimum of processes running in the backround (20 processes running via the Windows Task Manager):

    3072MB RAM Physical.......216MB used.

WindowsXP and LOTRO running in windowed mode 1280x1024 (Graphics set to Ultra High):

3072MB RAM Physical.......1037MB used (Task Manager fluctuates between 770,00k and 820,000k on mem usage for lotroclient.exe)

WindowsXP and LOTRO running in windowed mode 1280x1024 (Graphics set to Medium):

3072MB RAM Physical......860MB used (Task manager fluctuates between 630,000k and 670,000k on mem usage for lotroclient.exe)

WindowsXP and LOTRO running in windowed mode 1280x1024 (Graphics set to Very Low):

3072MB RAM Physical......794MB used (Task manager fluctuates between 550,000k and 575,000k on mem usage for lotroclient.exe)

I created an ingame movie a while back for another post (day or two into open beta I believe is when the movie was actually recorded.)  Within the movie it shows pretty clearly the memory usage.  I created the movie to show how the game ran with the settings set to ultra high on a far from uber rig.  The system specs were Amd 2199mhz processor, 1024MB(1 gig) RAM and an EVGA 7800GT 256MB video card.  I used the windows magnifier to keep the small type clear.  Right under where it says Total Physical Memory: 1024 MB you can see the Available Physical Memory: 92.73 MB....this is with Window XP, LOTRO, Task Manager(appx 4500k), Windows Magnifier(appx 4000k) and Growler in game recording software(appx. 5500k while recording) running.  I don't believe the memory usage has changed much since I got into the Pre-order. The movie is right on par with the above findings (On a different rig.)  Here is the link to the in game movie.

I guess what I'm getting at is there is no way you can be running the game at 100,000 k or so.  Perhaps a typo on your part.  Additionally I havn't seen any sign of a memory leak...or anything else for that matter.  The programmers did a fantastic job with this one.  As I'm sure you've gathered I'm a tad anal bout this kinda stuff, so If I am mistaken in any respect please feel free to enlighten me.

EDIT: I went to google and typed in "LOTRO Memory Leak" after posting this.  It seems there were some memory leak issues, especially for those running vista.  I have run the game for hours on end with no deterioration of the playability, not sure if it was resolved prior to the pre-orders starting or if it just didn't affect the two systems I run the game on.  Strange.....

Memory leak was happening exactly 2 hours into playing. It didnt crush the game for most , but you can clearly feel that HD is beggining to cache more and more and more. And suddenly the game had more and more loading lag.

If you would close and restart the client it would naturally go away.

    So clearly memory leak.

    Glad they fixed it !

During the beta, it was similar to me (mem leak kicked in after ca 2 hrs), but recently it was totally different: it almost never appeared, but when it did, it always happened when I entered the Prancing Pony. And even after just 15-20 minutes of play!

Ah yes. Forgot to mention Prancing Pony memory leak

To bad they didnt give some console command like /flush (something VG players are familiar with)

Anyways...seeing that others have (or had) same problem , i am sure Turbine is working on the fix ...

If they didnt fixed it allready.

    When was it actually fixed?

I started the game yesterday, and after 1-2 hours (round midnight CET+1) , had the same issue, my framerate dropped to 0 for some minutes,  though i couldnt run any analyzer, i cant say for sure that it was a leak.

was that fix only on US servers? Or did it arrive to Europe too?

(beside this , i cant say anything distrubing about the game, runs smoothly even on a pretty old pc, i was really surprised how

    well optimalized the code is)
