I played wow for like 2 years and loved it until i just got sick of it from overplaying. Unfortunately i just missed the BETA so i cant test out the game to see whether i like it or not. Do you reckon its worth subscribing to check it out?
Controls are very similar to WoW ... in fact the whole game is.
And WoW is like every other MMo as well. It is using the basic MMo 3d controls all the way from to hey guess what Ashron's Call. Hey guess what Ashron's Call is a turbine game. O, lets crucify Turbine on using their old engine components cuz they obviously don't work. O wait, AC still has active servers up.
W, A, S, D are used for movement along with the arrow keys. The number pad is used for moving the camera. Num lock is basic default auto-run. clt+alt+shift 1 through = are all used as hotkeys for skills.
f1 = target self, f2 target first person in fellowship all the way down the line. Thats the controls in a nut shell. Very extensive use of hotkeys available that can be configured the way you like them once in game.
same story here, 2 years of wow, quitting now for the same reason.
only got lotro yesterday, but so far im lovin it.
graphics is superb, quests dont feel like grinding, they took many good things from wow (in some way you can call it a copy of wow, yes, but wasnt wow copy of many others?), you will find it familiar, but still some fresh air.
it has some problems though, like character tag names are disturbing, ugly font and color,
animations could use some improvement, though they are far better then vanguard's.
thats it so far. if you ever liked wow for the atmosphere it had when it started, then I think you will like this one too.
im just simply happy that after 2 years, another mmorpg , worth to buy was finally released.
The transition from WoW to LotRO game client is a pretty smooth one. Yes, the basic controls are the same and you can jump. (Falling is handled differently, it is possible to fall from a high enough height to die, but much more often from a less fatal height, you don't take damage, but instead get a movement debuff for a minute or two due to injuring yourself).
It's definitely worth playing, as a jaded MMO fan I can say IMO this is by far the best MMO since WoW launched. Everyone's taste is different, not everyone will like it, but if you do play, make sure to give it a good go before deciding how much you like it. I loved the into areas, good transition into the game, but the game really opens up as you progress.
As far as the inevitable "WoW clone" comments, as I said, it an easy game to transition to from WoW, but I never feel like I'm just playing WoW with different graphics and terrain as I play.
