PVP

Hello,

I just stumbled across this game and had a quick glance on the official site. Doesnt look to shabby at all but could not find the information I want.

Does this game contain pvp and if so could you give me a quick run down on it.

Thanks

PvP in LOTRO is restricted to one zone. It is in the form of Monster Play. One side plays as their normal characters which they have leveled to 40+. While the other side play as Monsters that are instantly level 50. The monsters have skills and stats which they can upgrade by completing quests inside of the zone. The players also have quests to accomplish in this zone as well. Killing eachother gains you rank which may unlock different bonuses and items later on.

I know this is not true but I can't help myself.  Every time I see a post titled "PvP or Hows the PvP?" I always think to myself it means "Can I run around low lvl zones with my high lvl ganking lowbies and making their lives miserable".  I guess after my 7 millionth time of  being raped by a high lvl in a PvP game I've become a bit cynical.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

I have not played a fantasy mmorpg - The only game I play is Eve were the pvp has brutal consequences but equally great rewards. I just wanted to know I can fight were ever I want agianst whoever I want within reason or was it to be contained, less it fright the bears.

I would never make anyones life miserable unless there was a profit in it.

Yeah ... If you like EvE PvP and thinking of getting LOTRO with PvP being one of the selling points ... bad idea.

LOTRO PvP is as pointless as it sounds so if I were you I'd stay away from the game.  I am sure there are those who like it but its not for those who enjoy open PvP.

Yeah, I recognized the name reference (I also play EVE).

No, LOTRO's PvP is limited to one PvP zone, and it isn't player-character vs. player-character, it's player-character vs monster-character (each player can have a Monster Character which is a level 50 "evil" character that only PvPs in the PvP zone).  So it's a very contained system indeed compared to most MMOs.

hey i tested this game in beta and was going to preorder it becoz of the great lifetime deal but at the end i didnt go thru with it.  This game has brilliant graphics, gameplay, sound and everything u expect from a  designer like turbine.  The only thing it lacks is PVP.  it does have some basic pvp in the form of where u can ask another player for a duel...lol but that was just sad.  Mainly u'll have to do PVP in the monster play.  Dont get me wrong monster play is great and the whole new concept is a brilliant idea but at the end it does not satisfy my need of walking up to a player and engaging them in combat without any containment.  Trust me dude the game ure looking for is Age Of Conan
