I got the game today at target???

Is it released early or did the store just screw up??

I guess it would do me no good to use the key as I have the pre-order beta and I'm guess the true servers are not even on-line??

I'd say the store screwed up, it doesn't go live until Tuesday the 24th.. You could probably use the key, the level cap won't come off until they upgrade the servers.

And I'm pretty sure we're playing on the "true" servers.... not much will change on Tuesday other than a server patch and off we go....

This game is getting a heck of a lot of press coverage which I find surprising. Shame that VG didnt get the same amount of press.... mind you that game unfortunately fell victim to lack of polish which I understand this has plenty of!

Will either by purchasing this game tomorrow or looking for friendly souls whom don't mind passing up on a trial key? (if one comes with the game that is!)

Many online preorders got it last week...

I am going to see if best Buy has them in at lunch time.

Just a reminder, if you have been playing on a pre-order key, there is a five day grace period where you can continue to play in retail before having to enter your retail key. For those who are waiting on retail copies they ordered online to arrive via mail/UPS/Fedex etc... you will be all set, as long as your copy arrives during the grace period. (This is a seperate grace period from the window to enter the retail key to secure your founders benefits, that is 30 days).

For people who didn't pre-order and see the retail game on shelfs today, a day early, unless you can secure a pre-order key some where, you won't be able to start playing until midnight tonight, but you should be able to install and patch the game up now.

For those that downloaded the client for use with a pre-order key, the download client doesn't have the ultr-high res textures, so if you want those, remember to install from the retail disks when you get them :)

The difference with Vanguard is that Vanguard didn't deserve the same amount of press. Been in beta of that game and played during the first month of release. After so much frustration i tried the Lotr beta and its clear why Lotr will be a success where vanguard horribly failed. LoTR is just so polished, complete, pretty and has production values, where vanguard has nothing but a list of broken promises.

The difference is that this game is Lord of the Rings.  The title alone will garner major media attention.  Whether the game works or not has nothing to do with the media blitz.

    - I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

Vanguard, well Sigil a year ago had alot of Features in the game that the industry was buzzing about,

Advanced Encounter system, Fellowships just to name a couple.

Since they were not in at release ( and AES was scrapped pretty much ) Vanguard had a rough time marketing that game. Just another MMO really.

LOTRO is Lord of the Rings so the press coverage is over the top.
