well its in the future and there are many races and waht not. When a high ranking GOV official visits a place it gets atked by an aggressive force and you lose your sister and are tring to get her back. All in all your lvling getting skills and what not, soo i guess a new twist on the game genres like those of diablo and the like
This game imo isn't that great but it's decent for those people who don't require a very complicated gameplay. I still prefer PSO (Phantasy Star Online) I&II for the gamecube and i beleive for some other consoles. I reccomend you should rather buy PSO Episode I&II (I've heard it's also for the Xbox, FYI Xbox games are compatible with the 360. IMO( In my opinion) PSU was a big letdown , i was hoping it'd be alot better online. I never did get a chance to play the story mode of PSU but i didn't like the idea of buying a $60 dollar game for the 360 if its only going to be good around one specific area.
***oh...and for those people that are going to say "omg you can't afford a game that's $60", i am only 14, and in my town i have to be 15 to get a job & I do good/hard work to receive the money from my parents but i'd rather not waste that hard earned money on some game that doesn't seem all the great to me. I'm sure people with actual jobs feel the same way***
yeah, and another thing , playing PSU online for the 360 is a HUGE waste of money IMO, Xbox live around $15 a month. High speed internet ranging from $10-50+. PSU $10 monthly. I'll let you do the math.?
Playing on box is fine for people who already have a 360, Live service, and a high-speed internet connection. It's too expensive otherwise, but I'd say to go for it if you have that stuff.
The cheating eventually gets to most people in the PC/PS2 version, honestly. It had more people than the box version in the beginning, now it has less than half. Meanwhile, box has continued to grow in numbers. The only gameplay difference is rampant cheating in one version. I'll let you figure it out from there.
In regards to the OP's question, you really have to play it to figure it out. It's basically instanced dungeon crawls ala Phantasy Star Online, but the dungeons themselves are pretty short. A slow run for any given mission is perhaps thirty minutes, while a quick one might be ten. You basically run the same missions over and over for xp/loot, though you might jump around a bit and do different stuff if you hook up with a like-minded guild who wants to do that.
That said, if you liked PSO, it does improve on the formula in many ways. The action is a lot more dynamic, for one thing, and PM's are an interesting addition.
Liked the Mags better too personally. And largely replacing drops with crafted gear really killed this game for me. Wich blows because I feel it had a ton of potential. As has been noted above, it does improve on PSO in many ways.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Didnt for me. I loved this game... but I wont take it online just yet....
From what Ive seen, all the plot-based missions online are solo-missions so far, and since that's what I play for, it means I would be paying to play alone. I dont want to do that. Im hoping the expansion will change that.
In the meantime, Im trying to gather a team to join me weekly to actually BEAT PSOBB.
The games quality total depends on the system your playing it on, because you have to compare the game to its competition.
On the xbox its a really good game, its designed to take advantage of the xbox's features, and of course, its near impossible to hack an online game for a console. As far as PSU goes, as and xbox game, its quite good.
The fall out starts when you look at the PC version, and indirectly, the PS2 version. It is much easier to hack a game on the PC, given that its a much more open ended machine than a console. Hacking plagues the game, but the more pressing matter is, as far as PC games go, this game really can't justify a monthly fee either in the PC market. You compare the 9$ a month fee to the 15$ a month fee for say WoW, and PSU just falls so horrible short; Similar games like guild wars and diablo 2 even allow you to play online for free.
The root problem is, as an xbox game its great, because it has next to no competition in that market; As a PC game, it fails horribly; It charges a monthly fee for a setup that other games have been giving us for free for years, the anti-hacker messures are laughable and atleast 5 years behind current technology, and because the ps2 and PC servers are together, it hurts the PS2 users aswell; Whats even worse is that there was absolutly no effort put in to taking advantage of the PC's higher horse power and features; We get no mouse support, and no voice support, even though the PC has been able to handle voice support for many years.
Essential its a very sloppy multi-platform game; It was designed with the Xbox in mind, and plays very well on that system. The PS2's hardware is too lacking to really play the game properly, and sega is just plain irresponsible when it comes to the PC platform.
Bottom line, the PC platform offers alot more opportunities hardware wise, it can really expand on a game compared to a console; However, the company has to be able to deal with the pit falls, like hackers. Sega did nothing to take advantage of the power or peripherals the PC has, and did very little to deal with the pit falls "IE hackers"
Online RPG's and MMO's have always been the territory of PC's; And while i give Sega props for being the first to bring that kind of game to a console, they sad truth of the matter is, Sega just doesn't have the technology, the know how, or the innovation to make it in the PC market; While the Game is a first of its kind on consoles, its already "been there done that" on the PC, and it just can't hold up against the competion it pits itself against by charging a monthly fee. It really shows the huge diffrence in whats considered quality going from a console to the PC, atleast as far as Online RPG games are conserned. We just expect more on the PC because the genre has been on our platform for alot longer.
PSU should have never been a PC game; If sega can't/won't step up the extra effort needed to maintain the PC version, it should have been a console only game. All the negative comments and Ideas for PSU are based on the PC version; If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Sega might make brilliant console games, but PSU is a horrible failure as far as PC games go; It charges you per month for what other games give you for free, and they can't even deal with the hackers. Sega, keep to what you know, consoles; If you can't make a quality PC version, don't make one to begin with.

To the OP: The game has sort of the same set up as Dungeons & Dragons Online. best to compare it with that.
