Thinking of trying, some questions..

I am thinking of giving the game a chance, I have a few   questions to help me decide.

1. How is the pvp?    s there corpse looting, or at least rewards/ or penalties,   how does pvp work ?

2. How do player owned structures work? can I build myself factories and make things, or are they only on a  guild level?

how complex is creating structures and making your own business? can I make vehicles weapons etc ?

3. Can I play the market?  I have a knack for trading in almost any mmorpg I play,  how detailed is the economy and is there advantages to being rich ?

4. How friendly is the user interface?

     ooo a possible new player

ok im currently subscribed to Starwars Galaxies

1 : There Is NO Corpse Looting.  Killing players and npc's of the opposite faction gain you GCW points

which determines your rank.  benefits are great depending on your rank.  such as buffs, barcs, furniture,

    etc.

2--Structures: ANYONE can own factories, houses, even guild halls as ''Their Own'' all player srtuctures are based on

you avaible lots.  Such as <-> Small House 1-2 Lots (Depending) Medium House is 2 or 3 not completely sure

factories are all 1 lots along with harvesters, Guild Hall is 5 lots, Large Houses are 5 lots. (Note : You Get

10 Total Lots Per Character (2 Characters Per Server, 8 Characters Total)

2--Crafting: You can make houses, factories, weapons, armor, ships, vehicles, weapons

furniture, Etc.  while ive never ''Mastered'' a crafting proffession i think its pretty easy.

And you can start a buisness pretty easy. Start off with a basic stocked vendor

(No matter which you choose you get vendors i believe) they are like 15 credits/hour.

stock up on basic items place em cheap and as you can build more and more complex things

stock the vendors with them. . .

3 : Yes, while some vets have millions of credits just laying around some of the furniture

costs over 90 mil.  Can take awhile to get enough to get all the rare items and such

but it all works out.  As for advantages you can get Rez Sickness cured a million times ROFL

jk.  not realy except you can own some nicer items.

4 : I HATE IT ! ! ! i loved the Pre-CU/Pre-Nge UI so much better lol.its still not so bad, just not as good anymore

Anymore Questions Feel Free To Ask !

(Oh I Would Suggest Playing Bria.  Its One Of The More Populated Servers)

Hope To See You In-Game <-> May The Force Be With You ?

Excuse any miss types that might be in there

No corpse looting, but there is player bounties.  When you die in PvP, you have the option to put from 20k to 2mil on the persont hat killed you.  Bounty Hunters will then see the bounty on the terminals and go hunt them down.

When you kill people in PvP, you get GCW points.  If you get enough of these, you'll move up ranks.  The final 6 ranks are called Officer ranks and they give you new buffs and new items, but you need to keep earning GCW points to avoid decay if you want to keep the buffs though.  This isn't PvP specific though as you can get GCW outside of PvP.

how complex is creating structures and making your own business? can I make vehicles weapons etc ?

You buy a deed for a structure and then you can place it nearly anywhere on a buildable planet.  Houses aren't instanced and anyone can come visit your house if you allow them.  You use factories for mass producing items you craft and are often required when making components to be used in advanced schematics.  Nearly everything in the game is crafted, there are no NPC's in SWG that compete with your crafted goods, although Weaponsmiths have to compete with quested weapons which are often better then crafted varieties.

    3. Can I play the market?  I have a knack for trading in almost any mmorpg I play,  how detailed is the economy and is there advantages to being rich ?

As mentioned above, everything in SWG is sold through other players, so the economy is decided by the players and varies from server to server.  Selling stuff in SWG is basically another form of PvP

    4. How friendly is the user interface?

It's not bad, although I'm using the UI mod to get rid of the art frames around some of the UI screens.

How do schematics work?  im assuming they are like blueprints that need  specific materials?

    how long does production take?

do I need materials to make things?

and can I transport items from planet to planet?

1 : ummm, well i would suggest doing the legacy quests, decent credits.  they run for like 20-50k i believe.  if you set up harvesters should not be to bad.

    2 : Yep. . .

3 : no idea never done a factory hehe.

    4 : YES ! ! !

5 : Of Course ! There are limitations however, such as a house and such have certain planets they can be placed on.  factorys and harvesters can be placed on any i believe though.

I have decided to play on the Bria server because I like crowds, and it seems the most populated according to the forums at least.

Ive been trying to get in game for about 1 hour now, and the launcher recently showed this:

    Server Status
All servers are up except for Bria Ahazi Corbantis Flurry Intrepid Kettemoor Naritus Scylla Sunrunner Valcyn Tempest Bloodfin Chilastra Eclipse Gorath Kauri Lowca Radiant Starsider Tarquinas Wanderhome Shadowfire Europe-Chimaera Europe-FarStar Europe-Infinity

Any idea when the servers come back up ?

    well I found this

The regularly scheduled maintenance periods for Star Wars Galaxies occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 4am – 10am (Pacific Time).

thats a lot of downtime, Im EST so I guess il be back in about 7 hours ...

I really have to admit,  this is a HUGE turn off for people that are hard core gamers.

All MMO's have maint periods.  SWG servers have more to keep track of then most other MMO's, which is probably why they have more maint time then you're used to.

Generally they're only down for an hour and a half unless it's a patch day.
