Has the PvP improved?

With the new content in BC, has the WoW PvP environment changed? It is actually PvP again, and not millions of people grinding for gear?

I quit about a year ago when the honor farming was in full swing (old honor system). It was either a super easy guild win, or get rolled as a PUG. The battle grounds were stale too, always the exact same strategy, no deviation or creative tactics required. As the gap in gear disparity began to widen I quit in disgust. Despite all of that I truly enjoyed the game play, and miss the thrill.

At the moment there are no MMORPGs that offer a satisfying PvP experience, and I am curious about the changes that have been made in WoW. Can non-raiders obtain gear in the expansion that allows them to compete again? This was my biggest gripe, I loved the PvP in WoW, and I watched it leave me behind. I played as much during the summers as any hardcore raider, but loathe raiding with a passion. I'm willing to level a new character to 70 if the playing field has been leveled.

Are there enough new PvP areas to add some much needed variety? Is the arena as fun as it sounds, or is it dominated by the same few teams?

I would like to play again, but I can't get past flashbacks of honor farming and no-skill posers in godly gear. Any PvPers out there still playing WoW willing to tell me their opinion on these topics?

Pvp is getting worse. WoW is focusing on pve, which I have no problem with, but I'll be going to a another game... that focuses around pvp. AV is nothing but AFK bots, WSG is just boring, AB is always premade,  the arena is gear based, and world pvp is dead .

    PVP content?

Nothing could have been better than pre-BC for PVP. The hours and hours it took just to get one epic pvp piece or armor. What could be more rewarding? And the best part was that everyone knew it took you forever to get that one single piece.

Now-a-days I just stay in the 29, 39, 49 pvp range to have a little fun. No, I don't twink as in enchants, but I do have a blue or two. It really is much more fun in these level ranges. You have a few noobs, a few twinks, and a lot more in between. It's PVP the way it was meant to be, fun.

I'd say PVP in WoW has improved in three ways since the Burning Crusade.

    1: World PVP has improved

This is due to the world pvp objectives, which are to fans of world pvp much more fun then battlegrounds. Especially the objectives in Hellfire Peningsula  and the citybattle at Halaa in Nagrand is great. But it does depend on your server, I'm on a RP-PVP server with 50%/50% ah ratio so its perfect and there is a big battle for Halaa every night. Often these battles can be as fun as the old Tarren Mill/Hillsbrad battles, but the great thing is you get rewards for it too and you can actually capture stuff instead of just kill npc's that respawn.

2: Battlegrounds PVP has improved (for casuals).

The new honor system means that you keep the honor you earned until you spend it on weapons. This is better then the old system, because in the old system you had to play every during 10 weeks to obtain a rank, and if you stopped PVP'ing your rank would immediatly go down. Now you can go hardcore one week, quit playing two months and when you return your hk is still there ready to be spend. So you can PVP at your own pace. This is definatly an improvement for casual pvp'ers who can't afford to waste 12+ hours a day to achieve a high rank.

    3: Arena's are an improvement

Arena's are a nice addition. Because in Arena's not the hk grinded but the win/loss ratio is most important its far more skillbased then regular battlegrounds (i.e. just playing a lot is not enough, you actually have to win to be succesful). Granted, Arena's are pretty hardcore and dependant on the right group balance, but that being said they are a nice addition to the game.

Granted, i am looking forward to WAR and AOC and any game that does PVP better. WoW PVP is still too much dependant on time invested in PVE, especially compared to guildwars and to little on skill. But I think without doubt that the PVP has definatly improved compared to a year ago. There are simply more options (there's an extra battleground too with eye of the storm), more game modes and if your on a well balanced PVP server then you'll find a lot of fun in the Nagrand world pvp. Perfect? No. Improved? Without doubt.

dude.. is wow you first and only mmo with pvp or what? wow´s pvp is crap, u can hardly call that pvp, shadowbane, daoc, la2 thats pvp, tho i hate la2 and will never play it again. and theres probably more mmos out that has better pvp then wow, i just havent played em so i can say anything about em, shadowbane is free to play worth a try? daoc is kinda dying, atleast europe servers are dead, i hear US is going kinda strong. LA2 has to much grind b4 u reach the pvp.

i can understand that u liked it tho, but to say there are no mmo-pvp games out is just lies! :p

Conley already told well about PvP changes, but I'd like to add that the diffirence between raid gear and non raid gear is smaller at lvl 70 than what it was at lvl 60. It's still about gear but PvP sets, heroic 5 man instance rewards, reputation rewards, and some BoP crafter items aren't that much behind from the best raid drops. And arena PvP sets should be equal to raid PvE sets if you can ever get those pieces. Also if you play on arenas you don't have to farm for potions, since no potions are allowed on them.

Twinks are still around and it's still all completely itemized, but they made the rewards more carebear and easy to achieve. So it's basically stayed at the level of suckyness it was at before, but now nooblets can get epics in weeks.

Acvtually I quite like the way rewards system has changed. Beforehand there wasn't much point battlegrounding below max level (since the honour per hour is much higher at max level). Now there's a real reason to take part at any level.

And it shows. Mid level battlegrounds are far more popular than they once were.

I wish they kept the ranks names though. Nowadays you get far too many people yelling idiotic crap (especially in AB). If everyone had rank names people would have at least some idea who to listen to.

Thought that was the old honour system, where you had to grind as if it was your full time job for 3-6 months to stand a chance of hitting rank 14.

The new system is much more friendly.

And masochists enjoy inflicting pain. They must hate it when people like me actually enjoy the pvp :-)

Sadist likes to inflict pain and masochists like to be hurt. If I remember right from the school lessons...

I disagree, yes you need a certain level of gear to be competitive, but you can get by easily with decent blues.  IT takes just a couple of weeks to get your first arena piece if you know what you're doing.

Arenas are great because you're matched up against similarly skilled people and there's only a break when and if you want one. Much better than world PvP or BGs in my opinion.

Disagree with pvp getting worse or the arena? WoW lacks pvp.

    "Has pvp improved"

Has the game improved? NO!!!  They both go hand in hand.

No - it's a fun and interesting diversion. If you want realistic PvP with real consequences head to Afghanistan.

PvP in WoW is awful. Class balance is totally out of wack. BGs are stale and boring. Arena just emphasises how overpowered certain classes(MS retards) and combos(MS retards & pala) are and how total screwed others are.

TBC seems to be more of a PvE push, with well crafted instances  but yet more rep grind time sinks:(. World PvP is pointless, these new objectives they've put in are lackluster at best. The new BG *shudder* the purple bastard off spring of WSG+AB - it looks like it was thrown in as an after thought.

Most of the games coming out this year have a strong emphasis on PvP and appear in the Q&As to be balanceing pvp first and pve 2nd. Which is the total oppostite of WoW whose Devs have always said - PvE balance comes first . And as u can see in game this does not bode well for WoWPvP.

Wait for something new to come along - do NOT waste ur time and money on WoW if pvp is ur main thing.

It's odd how the people who complain about WoW game balance all seem to complain about a different class and spec. You say warriors, others say rogues or warlocks or hunters or shadow priests or feral druids or whatever.

Mainly with the arena bit, World of Warcraft is really lacking world PvP after the mass leveling has ceased. During the "race" to 70 there were a lot of random encounters and playing on a PvP server was actually worthwhile. Now you're hard pressed to see people going for any world PvP objectives.

    What PvP?
  • syanmarsyanmar Member Posts: 29
I think pvp is in its worst form now. They've added world pvp objects,  but they are barely fought for, and most of the times its nothing more then ganking. One new battleground, an ugly one, and not really interesting one, ive found only wsg the only one where we could have some enjoyable fights, others are usually crowded with zerging noobs, or premades(in my battlegroup). Arena is ok, but nothing special, rather boring then exciting. I was  loving wow for pvp, but its broken in my opinion, i became a sad panda, and quit.
