I'm currently playing Vanguard and enjoying it but I know I'll feel the the PvP pull once again and will likely look at AoC and Warhammer. I'm really curious as to what has drawn you to this one over the other? I find both games very intriguing.
I know this it totally going to make me sound like a jerk, but why dont you go read the FAQ for both games, and form your own opinion about what looks intriguing, since what I think is intriguing, you might think is silly, and vice versa.
AoC has an innovative combat design, something totally different than other MMORPG's have shown to date, no more "whack-a-mole", but real time combat, which means less reliance on gear. That's just one thing...
Also, visit gametrailers.com, and have a look at some of the videos of the game to see what you think of it. I'd highly recommend the Developer Walkthru from GDC '07, parts 1 & 2 for a good overall look at what to expect. Also....the Developer Walkthru from May '06 on IGN.com is pretty awesome since it shows mounted and ranged combat.
Have a look at 'em, and see what you really think. Personally, after spending time finding out about both of 'em, how they are structured, and the way their companies are proceeding ( for me Mythic not having a community forum ) were all parts of my decision to get involved in AoC. I like what AoC has to offer, and in all honesty, what you'd read via the FAQ and Features, is a far better description than I'd give!

What pulled me in ?
There are my reasons (in no particular order):
Innovative gameplay - about time we added some spice to combat
Siege battles yay for the trebuchet, the rest of u beware
Mature rating (blood.....) - comon who wouldnt want to decapitate someone after they win in pvp?
Good lore - i knew nothing about the lore, but after following the game ive becmoe very interested and i am now a fan.
City building - i love the idea of owning cities and building them.
Great graphics - everyone love graphics, i am no different.
Interesting magic system - i am going to hell on purpose the 1st day i play this game, but jokes aside, this seems very interesting i hope it works out well.
Great art concept - gotta love the attention to detail these guys have put into the game.
As of yet a very helpful community
Devs who seem to care about releasing a well made product (lets hope they in fact deliver)
Mounted combat - hurray for impalement.
theres prob more but im too tired to thinnk, but if this game delivers ill never touch another MMO untll its servers close for good.

game facts and other crap they put on their websites mean nothing. The only way to see if a game fits your play style, is to play the fooken game. Both games look good but I think ill be playing AoC.
Its a tough call, ill prolly play both since im an addict.AoC will be more guild centric,so when my guilds not on AoC ill play war.matter of fact I might just play WAR euro time and conan US prime time. $30 per month wont break me.
AoC looks like it will have better combat while WAR is following the traditional model, but adding more pvp zones than seen in previosu games. They will probably boh be good, but I am going with Conan as I am looking for more than simple sit and watch combat.

Since neither game is out yet, and not in an open beta, there really isnt much else to go by then what's in the FAQ, videos, and features, as well as the lore. He was looking for hooks, so to find one, it's a good place to start.
I've been following the development of Warhammer Online since it pretty much was announced, and I've just today been reading up on Age of Conan, and to be honest - both games look like they can be really good and have both their ups and downs.
I really like the fact with AoC you have the real time battles and I reckon that will be quite a different experiance in both PvP and PvE, they also have a class/subclass system I like with feats and stuff.. seems like it can be pretty fun.
Warhammer seem to be great mainly because I'm a fan of the lore/world (not been into the tabletop game as much as the regular pen&paper roleplaying game) and also it seem to do some cool stuff like RvR, different layout for combat, tanking and battles in general compared to WoW (which is the MMO I've played most in my career as a MMO:er)
I for one will try both (hopefully through beta). I will most likely have to play both games though, focusing a bit more on one of them. I'll see what's up when they arrive, and as people have written before me - it's really hard to tell yet, no betas are up or anything, expect more information once they arrive.
Back in january if you had asked me, I'd have been more hyped about AoC, but with the news of this game releasing on the 360 as well as the PC ive become sceptical. Having spent some time watching the WAR movies and reading about it, im now much more hyped about Warhammer. If their PVP is as any good as their baby (daoc) it should be a fantastic game.
the low fantasy aspect. i'm sick of games that include stereotypical fantasy races such as orcs, goblins, dwarves, etc. (and the silly bright, colorful, flashy, pretty combat of WAR bothers me.)
really, i'd prefer that FC make another sci-fi game, but at least AoC will not have elves and faeries.
I have been following both closely and spend quite a bit of time on the AOC boards. Mythic really needs their own forums for WAR but that is the only downfall so far to me. I will play both if they release as they should. I am more excited about WAR due to my long and extensive relationship with Mythic as a tester in DAOC. If I could only win a spot in either beta...... AOC is a gritty, dirty universe and I just love it.

If you'll notice most of the things in the FAQ are already in the game, and have been demonstrated already.
I guess I should take it that you open your mouth long before you have any information of facts behind it. I think it'd be best of you decided to slink away, find a rock to crawl under, and then read about what's in the game first, what's been demonstrated, and pick up just a few facts before you embarass yourself again.
Thanks for trying to play. Just learn to play better, because son, you aint that good at it, if that's the best you have. (EDIT: Sorry I called ya son, after looking at your profile info and seeing that you are 28, if I were you, I'd be even more embarassed if that's the best you had, I'd expect that reply from someone who's 12, not 28)
Try this one out, should be about your speed, thanks.:

WAR is by no means ruling out an option to port it to a console system. I flip flopped and I admit it. At first I was really hyped about WAR but the past couple of months have gotten me hooked on AoC. I will likely try and buy both when they come out but it looks like AoC will be my main.
If I were to pick one it would be AOC it just seems to interest me more with its new style of combat.
War combat just doesnt interest me at all, seems boring.
Now where War shines I think is its PVP system, it really looks like fun and a damn good challenge for all that pvp.
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there, 80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters. Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior, and he will bring the others home. -Heraclitus 500BC
basically its all about how content you are with MMOs today if you are content with the style (combat in particular) of current MMOs and just want a PVP atmosphere then go WAR if you are tired of the current style of MMOs and want to play something different go AoC its pretty much as simple as that
Just wait patiently for some months before trying to do any decisions, it's ultimately about wich game is better done and more fun, and there really isn't enough info around to determine that before you can beta both games or at least hear opinions from people who have betatested those games.
Age of conan. easy coice. i have played oblivion and age of conan seems to use the same game engine. so cool! cant wait
They are using their own engine that had built a while back. If they used the Oblivion engine, then the game would crash every single time 20 people were on the same screen.

Ditto.
Warhammer damn near comes out with one alpha video every few weeks while AOC.......
And the videos I have seen of AOC have not impressed me one bit. I do think it will be a very well made game, but if I HAD to choose between the two there would be no contest, WAR all the way.

both games are good. i like age of conan better since it offers more. if you are a pretty big fan of warhammer you could try it out but if you want the better game get age of conan. im not sayin anything negative about this game cause i dont wanna jinx it.

What you are trying to claim is that all games that use the unreal engine should run the same but it isn't the case, because it gets tweaked and upgraded to suite different situations better.
There not using any licensed engine, there building in house, actually upgrading it.If this lil company from finland can get the old AO engine to support battles well over a hundred players and prolly as many npc's.In real time on an mmo. There gonna win the Noble peace prize, personally I think the dev's have been hitting denmark and the Netherlands a bit much.
Anyways here's what I got on thier engine from wikipedia.org
DreamWorld Engine™The DreamWorld graphics engine was developed by Funcom circa 2000. Other computer games powered by DreamWorld technology include Anarchy Online and its various expansion packs. When Funcom began developing Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, the company reviewed its existing technology base and decided to focus on the further evolution of their proprietary DreamWorld engine as opposed to licensing a third-party engine like many online RPG companies do. As such, Funcom began to retool their engine with the overall design, pipeline and implementation process was taken into account. In light of these changes, the DreamWorld engine has been rebuilt for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures with new features, special effects and optimizations.[33]
