OH MY GOD, most crowded release EVER...

So they set this 10 day pre-order offer to avoid the great storm on release day... They like open up the servers 2 hours in advance to broaden the timeframe for logins. Still, I've been in the night-time crowd of WoW, been a pioneer in DnL/SoG, was on EQ2 launchday... This one beats it all.

You meet people literally every 2 meters, you cannot be alone in the starter areas. And no server went down (at least here EU) nor is there ANY lag. Ice-cold 76ms ping all the way through, 40 fps (mid-range rig)... 20 people, 40 fps, large town, 40 fps...



This has just beaten any title I've ever experienced server- and clientperformancewise --- AWESOME !

    Clean launch so far in North America.  Admittedly it's still only midday and several servers have queues already, but it's clean so far.

    hmm, well I haven't logged on (gonna get my retail copy later after school) but first day of burning crusade in the blood elf area, I saw at least 1,000 people or so in the starting area for BEs...imagine having to do quests *LOL*



    But this is a very good sign for LOTRO...I remember the first day of auto assault release, I only saw like 10 people in the human city (the most popular race to in AA). That was a pretty sad release cause the game was pretty fun...just was empty.

    The non-gamers will buy it initially, but I expect the glow will wear off about the same time it takes someone to get tired of an RPG.  Because, this game comes off across as more of an RPG than a true MMORPG.  Just a bunch of quests to lead you here and there in almost linear fashion.

    Where did the "freedom" in MMORPG's go?

    It's a PvE game and it was never intended to be a sandbox, it has all you need for a long term game experience. Dungeons, non-instanced world, crafting, off-combat entertainment, superfine graphics, ok-animations...



    SO many people said "WoW will not last another year if they don't add solo-endgame-content"... They didn't and the armies are growing. I've seen many releases, this game will definitely be a ruler...

    Sounds good! I've got 3 friends playing atm - unfortunately I'm at work, but they're saying it's not so busy on US [Canada] Landroval... but then again most people are either at work or in school right now.

    Meridion, I was just wondering what do you use to measure your ping? Is there some software? Lemme know I've always wanted to keep good track of the flow.  Thanks and good gaming! Cheers

    Did linearity stop WoW from blowing the doors off the MMORPG market in 2004?  You have to distinguish between the tastes of MMO elites, on the one hand, and the larger market, on the other.  The larger market very much likes "guided interactive entertainment" and the concept of "playing alone together".  WoW proved this.

    In the options menu there is a checkbox for connection stats, I believe in the GUI tab [feel free to correct me if I'm wrong].  The only bummer for me is that the chainlink display box for it doesn't seem to be movible...  Mouseover and it'll give you ping, latency, dropped packets, etc

    Ain't nobody holdin' a gun to yer head makin' ya do the quests!  In the month of open beta, I didn't max out a single character - I just explored 75% of the map [I missed a few areas, most notably the "Barrow Downs" - must be NW of Bree 'cause S-SE-NE I covered as well as dwarven, elf, and hobbit areas.]

    what server are you on? i was wondering how populated the eu servers would specifically the english server

    I think most of the hardcore crowd will be gone in 6 months.

    I'll give it that, then move onto the next one.

    It does seem quite solid though, only real lag i get is when i enter Bree, and it does gets quite choppy.

    Oh..and i seem to crash back to desktop 2-3 times a night, the funny thing is it never happened once in beta, wierd.

    Apart from that it runs ok

    I had that issue too when I only had 1GB RAM. I upgraded to 2GB and it's considerably smoother.

    And you're basing this off from air. The game was just released. My word, what on earth is wrong with you? Your assumptions are bland and have no fact to them at all. If you want to post your opinion, do it with a little more consideration. Turbine has a lot of plans with this game. You should either be enjoying it or not playing it all together. Pretty simple really.
