I thought i would take a little spin down memory lane and see how things are going, i'm kinda getting the nostalgic feeling of surfing the plains of dantooine and riding the sands of tatooine, running through the feilds of naboo and hiking the mountains of dathomir. any suggestions on which servers are best suited for interaction between other players (which server is highest populated) i'm going to guess and say its bria but not really sure anymore.

Shadrak, stop lying to people, the servers are not all healthy, and doing ok. Some are being more populated due to toon transfers, but thats about it. Is the game better than when the crappy NGE was released, yes, but not by much. Is ch.6 going to save swg because it has to do with CH sorta returning, may bring in a few vets, but thats about all.
The game has so far to go, to being able to compete with the pre-cu version it's not even funny. Are the devs heading in the right direction, maybe as well. If they trash the dumbass linear class based system and reimplement the open sandbox skill sytem, that would be a major start. If they don't want to bring back all the proffessions, but keep adding back sub proffessions, that would also be major upgrade to. Slowing the combat down 20 or 30% more and reimplementing the old animations as well would make the game start to resemble pre-cu.
If they were to do those things as well as make the NPC ai and mobs smarter, the way they were, and also make crafted items better than looted ones, then the game would bring in alot of vet players i would suspect. Right now though, i say try the trial, it's alot differant now than before the NGE was released. It can't hurt to try it out, you may like it, but it won't take you very long to see, what needs to be added back are the things i and many others have suggested.
The servers are healthy the game is better than ever. If you cant adapt and find the SWG joy again maybe the problem lies with you.
I know precisely what I'm missing....
Interdependancy, skill point system, no levels, decay, dynamic profession system.... and many other things to numerous to mention.
You may descirbe the servers as healthy, but compared to the amount of subs prior to the CU it's still not even close.
Perhaps a better desciption would be healthy for post-NGE.
BTW if the servers were healthy as you say then merging of servers would not be the hot discussion that it is.
Anyways, I personally wouldn't return, even if they trashed the NGE and brought back pre-CU rules. Through history and experience, I know the unethical actions that SOE has implemented for this game. I know they are very capable of committing the same actions in the future. Therefore, due to their history of actions, I will never trust them. And, I know that a lot of veterans feel the same way. Therefore, this "If you cant adapt and find the SWG joy again maybe the problem lies with you" crap is false. We hold our convictions due to knowing SOE's historical actions. Maybe you should take a lesson in their history as they are the problem, not the vets.

Your missing the point my friend, rather soe is evil or not im not going to let that ruin what I have fun in its star wars and if I like it im going to enjoy it, I agree with you that soe needs to go down but there not going to stop by me not paying them money is not going to stop so why should I let everyones opinions ruin my fun? Yea soe will always probably be greedy and all that but it does not mean swg is not the game for me at the moment. And if there was something better out I would be playing that but there isnt.
Like I said its just a game its being taken way to seriously enough is enough we all know what soe is about stop dwelling in it.
Hmm. I went in and checked out Chilastra this weekend after 2 years away and it was truly sad. I saw 1 person in Cnet and 2 people at the Dant Mining outpost. If population is on the rise, I'd hate to see what it was like before the trial...heh. For all I know those were trial people poking around too.
I assume that the housing demolition is because they will probably merge some of the servers as I can't believe they can afford to mainain servers with these type of numbers.
Nah. That distinction belongs to Wildcat.
I know what you mean! I feel so...dirty...going back to a $OE game.
From a beta veteran's perspective, I have to say that if the SWG I was just playing a few minutes ago had been released several years back then the game might not be as empty and dead as it is now. The state of the game currently, play wise, is just about typical of a newly released MMO. It's...kinda fun.
Yes, I'm damning it with faint praise.
Since JTL, I've said that "this is one of the most enjoyable flight sims out there, it's just a shame that the rest of the game is such crud." Now it's beginning to look like the rest of the game might be merely tolerable. Ultimately a waste of money, but at least the non-flight sim part of the game has been cleaned up.
Shoot me now. I know that in less than a month I'm going to regret having said anything nice about a $OE product.
You obviously never played before the CU. That time was healthy populations. You had to go out to the boonies on the advanced planets not to see someone.
Kai
tried the 14 day vet trail. uninstalling as we speak.
Empty vendors, empty citys apart from the starter town at peak times, truly awfull combat. Big shame as the game still looks great
And, of course, by the same logic...just because you say you're NOT a liar doesn't make it so, either.
So far, looking through this post...there's not a lot of people that currently play/have logged in over the last week that agree with this idea.
If this were a trial, the circumstancial evidence would be killing your case atm.
seems like there are some people posting on here that don't remember what is was like precu. i'll try to explain it as simple as i can. first example i'll give will be of course "Corellia" Coronet Starport. I operated a buff station out front of the starport. there were usually 2-3 other doctors there. We "ALL" had LONG buff lines, sometimes 30 deep and i would buff sometimes non stop for 4-6 hours making 200k-300k hr a lot of times more than that. Second example i'll give is Dantooine Mining Outpost, you could go to the mining outpost and get in a Solo group of 20+ players 24hrs a day, sometimes 2-3 full groups running missions all day long, thats around 50-60 players running missions at any given time, that is besides the groups that were not solo groups so there were probably more than that.
Then you had hot spots like the Geo Caves which would have 15-25 players in it at any given time. Then there was Naboo Theed Starport which supported minor buff stations, usually one doctor at any given time, a good fallback if Coronet was full usually other doctors would go to coronet and see it full of docs and go to theed and start a buff line. Then the 3 major Cantinas at the time i was playing was Coronet,Dantooine,Theed each of these cantinas were full, coronet being the fullest at estimated 30-40 entertainers most AFK buffing. Then you had the market places around the major cities that i like to call them especially around coronet, then theed, then the rest mostly around major cities or player cities. before the global search you would sometimes go on a shopping spree which was kinda fun looking around at various vendor malls and shops. you could find good vendors and some bad vendors but it was nice having active crafters and loot vendors.
there were usually people in just about every starport in the game, you could shuttle in and almost certainly find people hanging around. i'm sure theres much much more to talk about but this is the jist of how full the game used to be. my server was not a very high populated server, it was considered low to medium at the time which was "Sunrunner" so you could imagine what the server populations would have been like in bria, bloodfin, kettemoore etc...which at the time were considered the most heavily populated.

I'm actually having fun at the game I play the Real version of WoW True some dont like it after they max level but there are always people that rip through content and then say they're bored.
I loath SOE but it doesn't stop me from playing and having fun on WoW while waiting on the SWG servers to be unplugged from non play.

Oh god, why did I ever go back?
I'd call my comment at the end there prescient, but it doesn't take a crystal ball and psychic powers to know that $OE is good at pissing people off.
DON'T pay for SWG. Once again, they have changed the game.
QFE
you can either play it or not but sitting around all day pissin about it does what exactly?
this has to be the lamest forum on the entire net. bunch of sad sacks with nothing better to do than blame soe for their miserable attitudes. is soe kinda lame? yeah. have they made mistakes? yeah. do they still have the only sw mmo on the market? yeah. that alone is the reason to hope they get it right someday soon. NO ONE ELSE HAS THE LICENSE TO MAKE A SW MMO. so really get over it. you all claim adulthood and sit around acting like this? shame on all of ya.
anyway the game has moved back into a group feel and many vets are on the boards there expressing their joy. also many vets are returning. i've counted more than a few posts the last few weeks on flurry's forum of returnees saying they like it. i went back a month ago and will stay unless they do something totally stupid again. but if you really are a sw fan and dont play this game or even give it a run with a trial then you cant say much cuz ya dont know much. you know about the old days which are long gone and can stay that way.
i'll also point at that being a former naysayer and practically guaranteeing swg would shut down after the nge i was just as wrong as most of you. it's still there. if the nge didnt kill it i dont see it happening unless swg just shuts the doors. and knowing them they never will til every option is exhausted.
so go ahead and reminisce if ya want. the rest of us will be playing a game headed in the right direction for once. oh and having fun to boot.
