I'm currently playing Vanguard and enjoying it but I know I'll feel the the PvP pull once again and will likely look at AoC and Warhammer. I'm really curious as to what has drawn you to this one over the other? I find both games very intriguing.

I played Vanguard also but have canceled. I am currently leaning more towards AoC because it seems to have more PvE content. This is just an assumption till they hit beta but War looks like it will use PvP as an endgame and that PvE will decrease as you go along. I enjoyed DAOCs PvP but would also like some dungeons and raiding and endgame content.
Not sure since both War and AOC will be heavy PvP if either will have enough to satiate me personally but currently AoC seems to have a bit more.
I too am deciding between the two same games and at the moment WAR is winning out. The developers of WAR actually have a vision for PvP, where as the developers of AoC appear to have absolutely no idea what to do with PvP in their game. Therefore because all I care for is PvP, I'd rather play WAR.
You don't have to raid to compete because weapons and armor will have seperate PVP and PVE stats. That means that the big sword you obtained from instanceX will be neccissary to have a chance to beat instance Y, but when you enter a PVP zone to fight other players that big sword will just be a sword. Weapons and armor with PVP stats can be bought with "bloodmoney".
Back to your question, personally im excited by both, but im a little big more excited about conan because the lore of the game attracts me better and it seems to have some deeper options like city building.
However the law of physics dictate that when two games get released, at least one of them will be dissapointing and not live up to its hype. So around the release of the titles i'll check the reviews and peoples opinion (maybe try beta) and then make a decisision which will be my permanent game. If both games would fully live up to their hype that would be wonderful, but the laws of physics dictate otherwise.
What attracted me to WAR over Conan was the design and art of the game. I just love the way everything looks, like a very twisted version of our reality unlike Conan which approaches a semblance of realism by comparison. Also the Universe and Lore of Conan arent that interesting to me. Dont get me wrong I enjoy them but I dont think I could see myself living in that world for any prolonged duration. Finally things like Public quests and somewhat more traditional approach to combat with things like RvR thrown into the mix really have me excited.
If my PC can cope with Conan I might give it a spin but I just dont feel any pull towards the game at the moment.
I could be wrong, so I invite you to correct me if I am.
However, I am not going to buy AoC because it seems too guild-oriented to me. I have founded and managed so many guilds, and I have been a member in several, but I am really burnt out with them. The time spent building a guilding, then managing it (finding additional members and so forth) is just not worth it ... I just want to play, enjoy, and experience the game.
I want to join a guild for the social aspect of it, not because it is necessary for raiding, PvP, etc. If WAR is like this, please let me know.
Well, as per the mention of "GUILDs" and there importance in game, it looks like AoC will require larger guilds than Warhammer will. That opinion is based on two things. PvE in AOC will play a bigger part of the game (raiding dungeons) and I would immagine that to build a city it takes a LOT of money....and the only way your getting that money is via multiple members.
As for WAR, dont kid yourself, Guilds will be important BUT the QUALITY of the guild will matter much more than the Size of the guild. But thats how it should be anyways...playing with your friends to have fun as opposed to playing with a bunch of dooshbags you dont know to clear some instance (wow).
Now as to which game I will play....thats easy for me. WARhammer hands down.
I love pvp
I had a blast playing DAOC
I had alot of fun playing WoW
WAR for me is the best parts of DAOC and WAR made into one Awesome game.
Now for the AOC bashing, leave if your a AoC Fanbois :P
I dont like the graphics. I dont care if its Direct X 10.0 it looks like crap to me. Yeah the screenshots are great but video shows gameplay reality and Im not impressed with the video AT ALL. I dont like the combat. I dont like the attitude there taking toward magic and backfiring crap. Just because the game doesnt use auto targeting doesnt mean its the greatest game ever.
And the most damning thing towards AoC---
Compared to Warhammer they havent shown enough of the game. There gameplay videos are weak and Im not seeing anything that remotely looks fun.
But WAR? Info all the time. New stuff all the time. Rave reviews from every media outlet that has played the game. And from what I see the game just looks fun.
I also am playing Vanguard but am getting kind of fed up because of the lack of PvP. I have been looking at Age of Conan and Warhammer. Both look like good games but Warhammer has the upper edge in PvP. But Age of Conan has the new style of gameplay for mmo's witch might make PvP really fun and require lots of skill. It's a tough choice but until I see both games I dont know what my choice is.
It sounds excellent on paper but you are going to experience lag, and with those high end graphics you will lag hard. Try having real time combat with lag, it will be insane and people will get pissed. AOC is going to have MAJOR issues when that game goes live with thousands of people running around with tons of lag.
I can see all the whine threads right now about exploiters window dragging and crap.

You have a point there, I have never thought about that one before.

I read somewhere that they may have used the oblivion engine for that game- and if thats the case lag will def. be a prob. Speacially if you run somewhere and a guy is chasing you and you hit a load zone or something. That would be just as bad as when people quit in halo. haha. The game LOOKS good, but really it all comes down to how well games play- espeacially in real time.
If any of you get tired of re-playing the same old books:
Take a look at Tabula Rasa. If you like new game mechanics, and a new way to implement pvp into pve. You just may like it. Its actually going to be set up much like WAR in the sense that the battle is never ending! I think in perspective- TR could turn out to be the sci-fi WAR. Only TR is more PvE orientated, and WAR is PvP. Think about it.
Cheers all.
TR is not rainbow-bear. It is the hardcore ideals of what our planet, and universe is becoming. A complete warzone. Get your guns ready.
wow.. That was awesome.. So many statements and so many of them are dead wrong! I don't know if I should say grats or shut the f*** up!
Yes, I am a fan of AoC, you guessed it. And I would like to encurage all of you to go do some facts hunting! I mean sure you can chose not to do so and you may also chose not to play AoC. But making these assumptions out of material such as screenshots and youtube clips and then publishing it as fact?
Having an opinion about something without having a clue is fine... But presenting this opinion openly without at very least announcing that your freakin' clueless, now that is baaaad
My statement on the game was based merely on what I heard, so you should know better then to take that as 'publishing'. If they figured out how to get great graphics as well as game mechanics and steady play- then yes I think they have a great game on their hands. But with those same assumptions to any other game, it will be at least some what good. But I think the huge difference between aoc and war is more which side of folklore your into and the style of game you like to play. war is obviously more toony and rinse and repeat style of gaming. where aoc is looking like its more based on timing and skill with controls more then the skills themselves. I for one am huge in game mechanics and like that style of game- I think it forces players to be more on their toes rather then eating twinkies and drinking mtn dew while button mashing macros.
TR is not rainbow-bear. It is the hardcore ideals of what our planet, and universe is becoming. A complete warzone. Get your guns ready.
Damn i got love for both AOC and WAR i'm just glad to see some refreshing MMOs emerging - I'll try them both out to see which i enjoy more but i really do dig conan lore

No. This is not even close to correct.
It has been stated that if you can run Oblivion on your PC you can run AoC.
They are using the DreamWorld engine. Here's a snippet from wikipedia about that;
DreamWorld Engine™
The DreamWorld graphics engine was developed by Funcom circa 2000. Other computer games powered by DreamWorld technology include Anarchy Online and its various expansion packs. When Funcom began developing Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, the company reviewed its existing technology base and decided to focus on the further evolution of their proprietary DreamWorld engine as opposed to licensing a third-party engine like many online RPG companies do. As such, Funcom began to retool their engine with the overall design, pipeline and implementation process was taken into account. In light of these changes, the DreamWorld engine has been rebuilt for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures with new features, special effects and optimizations.

To quote a guild friend:
Items never before seen in other MMOs:
-spellweaving
-soul corruption
-semi to exceptionally realistic mounted combat
-true collision detection, including characters getting the crap trampled out of them by aforementioned cavalry.
-formation combat that actually means something tactically, and doesn't leave players screaming at their leaders to turn it off so they don't all die (Shadowbane anyone?)
-crafting levels advanced by quests, not grinding.
Items that have been used only rarely, and are usually ignored by the average developer:
-skill/level hybrid system, properly done, this embodies the best of both worlds.
-overarching storyline that is constantly and consistantly in motion
-guild city sieges, both PvE and PvP
-voiceover NPC communication with multiple dialogue options (Think Oblivion)
-customizable equipment
Items that have been significantly improved over what is commonly seen on the market:
-Combat AI: A lone enemy might run, set up an ambush and/or get help from its pack/band/nest/etc. before attacking if it feels outmatched. Enemies of all kinds are likely to go for the weakest in a crowd, people trying to "tank" will have to physically block their path.
-out of combat AI: The cities are alive with activity as NPCs fulfill their current "needs". Think a couple hundred Sims left on their own, only these guys don't piss themselves out of stupidity. NPCs, and the people they know, will treat you differently depending on what they know (and what they think they know) about you. For example, that widow you helped out before might wave and give you a much warmer greeting than before you did the related quest, whether or not you actually engage her in conversation.
-Whatever the final result of the debate over raiding may be, Its been shown quite clearly that even if there is any advantage towards raiders and their gear, said advantage is minimal at worst.
At the moment I'm leaning towards WAR. The main reason is that I hate raiding, and it seems like it will play a substantial part in AoC. But until I get to experience both games first-hand, I can't really say which will appeal to me the most. A definite deal-breaker for me will be if raiding is the only way to get comptitive gear in AoC.
WAR - comes from an experienced MMO devloper who already pulled off a great PvP system. Engine is thoroughly tested and stable and, more importantly, probably lighter on system ressources than the eye-candy machine that is AoC's engine.
I am not a big fan of the Warhammer Artwork and think the more mature look of AoC may actually be interesting, but overall WAR seems to hold the better cards.

if you like bunny hoppers in CS, then i think AoC will do you very well, if you prefer straight pvp and dont want to raid, then WAR is your game.
