Lord of the Rings Online: First Free Update: Shores of Evendim

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Turbine has released information about the first update for Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. The Shores of Evendim will include over 60 quests, 9 new monsters, an upgraded music system, and more.

About 100 miles north of the Shire, in northern Eriador, lies Evendim, a vast region dominated by the Lake Nenuial; the 'Lake of the Twilight'. On the southern shore, the ancient abandoned city of Annúminas -the former capital of the kingdom of Arnor is well known amongst the Free Peoples. For according to the Legends, amidst its ruins lay a great wealth and powerful artifacts now threatened by evil creatures and the nefarious forces lurking in Angmar.

As the Fellowship prepares to leave Rivendell, Aragorn must re-forge Narsil, the Sword of Elendil. Gandalf has asked for help in Aragorn's search of the ancient lands of Evendim for an ancient jewel that once belonged in the sword's hilt. This powerful relic must be recovered before the Dark Lord Sauron finds it.

Players are challenged to secure the valuables of the abandoned city, defy Angmar's encroaching grip on Annúminas and aid Aragorn in his quest to re-forge Narsil.

Now this is impressive.  Turbine is already scheduling quality updates to the game and it's not even released yet.  I am SO glad that they took their time and polished LOTRO first.  No need to spend countless hours fixing bugs that should have never made it out of beta here.  Other MMO companies should be taking notes.

I wonder if we'll see this new content before the vanguardians see their own helms ;)

I think it will come out with the next patch or upon launch. And if we compete with the helm issue they have we will likely have 6+ months to get this content in lol.

i dont really understand. those that are playing vanguard enjoy it. those playing lotr are playing that. why cant  everyone be excited about a content update instead of justifying trashing another game becuase lotr does an update. can't i just enjoy the anticipation of doing new things in lord of the rings.

you have made your statement to the only people that really care and that is the sigil devs by not paying for a sub. everything else just makes you look bitter and ignorant. its time to move on . your the same type of people that will be trashing lotr when something new comes out. it's almost embarassing to have you playing lotr because it gives us real gamers that get true joy from gaming a bad reputation.

thanks and good hunting to all

I'd just like to say that it DOES matter, because we need to make damn sure developers like Sigil hear us loud and clear, as many times as possible, to send the message that the MMO player base will not tolerate crap like they tried to spoon feed us.

Plus, it's pretty damn funny that something like "visible helms" is even on a feature list at this point... come on, it's 2007. Why are they not in the first place? (Unless it was one of their performance enhancing ideas!)

Kudos to Turbine. Although I probably won't play the game again (Did 5 months of beta testing), they deserve some respect for keeping their audience entertained with new content.

Why give them kudos? They could have added better character customization. They could have made better class uniqueness than their trait system. They could have added a better mount system.. Or player housing. Or more end game content. Instead that add content to where it was needed anyway and rather then just put it in beta, they start talking about how its a free update. Its an update after the game goes gold. This is beta, work on the existing game, don't go off working on the next update.  This is just another stunt in a long line of stuff they have done.

I was early beta also... but you should give it a try if you haven't in say, the last 6 months... it's an excellent game and incredibly polished and bug-free.

Also if you are complaining about the trait system, you haven't played it enough to understand how powerful it is.

People such as yourself are never satisfied.  I'll hazard a guess and say that if they had placed the new content in beta, there wouldn't be enough time to test it (thus the june release for the update), but you'd be the first one one the boards complaining that the content wasn't tested enough, that they should postpone launch. You'll always find something to complain about.

As for working on beta, you do realize they have separate teams for live and testing right? You realize that most of the issue in beta probably aren't even addressed by the same devs that are creating the new content. There is end game content in the update, and the player housing is likely on the horizon.

You're so jaded you can't even realize a good thing when it hits you right in the face.

Character customization is just fine as it is.  The trait system is actually quite deep, and more than provides options in character development.  What's wrong with the mounts?  Player housing? Bah, go get a real house if you want to... More endgame content, because so many of us are sitting at end game right now... and who says the game needs new content right now? Not me..but then I'm glad they are adding it.

They have player housing in their to-do list, and as for end-game content, the first raid is included in the update for those who skipped it.

When I get home today I will have LOTRO in my mail, and I will play it for the first time. I didn't get into beta (something to do with most of the parts of my computer were manufactured in another millenia), so here's for hoping I spent my money on something good. Usualy I don't buy before I've had a chance to try but being an avid Tolkien fan, I decided to chance it. I'm hoping it pays off, or at least gives me something to do until I've upgraded and Age of Conan is out.  Anyway, it's good to hear that new content is already being planned, instead of having to wait a year and then pay for an expansion.

I agree with kalistar here. All the wow vs , lotr vs and vanguard vs threads are getting annoying. If someone likes to play vanguard good for him and if you hate vanguard and like lotr more then that's nice for you.Developers don't have to "hear" from others that they fckd up because in the end they'll know it looking at the amount of subs they have.If Vanguard subs are low to begin with and only go downhill then that should say enough to a developer like Sigil.Same goes for SOE with the NGE messup and every other devloper. They'll know when the cash don't flow.No need for us here to make the same statements and topics over and over again.

    At least my 2 cents....

I find it impressive that even before release they already have addon plans released.

Ive never been a big fan of wow style grindraiding, hope it wont end up like that. Player housing is a good idea

as long as those houses can be used for more then just status, or atmosphere.

Do you know if it will be only an rp element, or do they plan to add anything like own workshop, or trophy room, or something that your character can actually benefit from?

In many ways it is a good game but it is as big a grindfest as WOW. In fact, it is essentially a more beautiful, complex WOW copy. Many like this style of gaming in the same way many people think Macdonalds is a good restaurant! But those who enjoy this style of game mechanic will find LOTRonline does it better than any one else so far.
