It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

So the question is..... Buy or not Buy? (Give your opinion if you already bought it)

This game has crashed the rate in released mmorpgs. Obviosly is going down due to normalization. But seems It will be in one of  the highest places.

And now the question for the people that already bought the game. Is worth buying this?

Lets answer it better, with your own rate.

Example:    Yes.  8/10

Reason:      Extraordinary fun.

    Yes. 9 out of 10.

Reason. The quests and the gameworld is just so polished and screams production values. The graphics are wonderful, the atmosphere and RP potential is great.

I'd say if you never played world of warcraft before then you might want to get WoW especially if you prefer PVP (havent tried monsterplay yet, but theres no pvp servers with open world pvp in this game). But if like me your tired of WoW (been playing over 2 years now) then LoTR is a suprisingly fresh and wonderful alternative.

Yes. 9/10. Best MMO currently available for PvE.
  • HelleboreHellebore Member Posts: 28

strongest PvE game out there, and will remain so for quite some time.

Updates already announced so it's future looks strong in keeping players occupied.

PvP elements in place (in a less-than-normal way) for those who like to divulge in a little pvp here and there - I presume the MPvP will be expanded upon over time to give more options, game modes and environments.

    8/10

    My Rating is 8/10.

Reason: PvMP, Titles/Deeds, Conjunctions, beautiful landscapes, lack of goofy looking gear.

    9/10

The graphics are excellent, although character movement is a bit cartoony.

Thw sound is immersive, I love fighting the orcs. The comments from npc's can be out of place and a bit inane though.

There is a quest rich environment, and the hints and tips don't take you by the collar and take you where you need to go, a bit of exploration and detective work is required.

being an avid readerr of the books, I feel I'm at home.

Can't wait to log back on.

9/10, received my preordered copy yesterday.

    Graphics/landscape/artwork, immersion.

COMMUNITY! With all caps deliberately. I am flooded with crafting goods from my fellow kinship members every day I log in. Incredible :)

Sound - excellent instrumental ambient music, very varied. Players jamming in front of the Prancing Pony :)

Server stability - Snowbourne was creaking and screaming with the full load the whole day, and never froze or bugged - not even a lag outside the biggest town centres!

Quest XP - no mob grind needed.

I could go on if I thinked hard, but there's no need - all these would be perfectly enough... for me, at least.

Yes, buy this game, I'm picking up 2 copies tonight at EB and will buy one lifetime sub and one at the monthly rate.

    Rating:  8/10

Great PVE game, people who say 9/10 are not being overly positive, I'm just holding back my rating a little until I see what the large scale raids/end game is like.  PVP not too sure, have to wait until we get some level 40 PC's in Ettenmoors before we'll know.

I just shelled out 250 USD for the box and the lifetime subscription, needless to say I enjoy the game. I would give it a solid 8.5, the game is not perfect but it is damn good.

    Yes. 8/10

Reason: This game is incredibly fun. And if you have the machine to run it on the highest settings it's drop dead gorgeous to boot.

I would give this 10/10 if not for 2 things.

    1. Farming was seroiusly nerfed right before live. I'm not looking to make a fortune growing pipeweed but if I can't sustain my seed supply I can't continue on with cross breeding. Hopefully that will be addressed by the devs soon.

    2. The crashes in Vista can be annoying.

I bought the game, and I got the lifetime subscription.

Since I got the lifetime subscription, it's obvious that I think the game is worth it.

The game flows well with well-written quests.  The epic quests are second to none in terms of story, with Final Fantasy XI coming in at a close 2nd.  The majority of experience points come from quests, so this helps to avoid having many people just sitting around and grinding.  However, there are m any traits to get and some of them require grinding--these traits, if you get many of the same type, really add up to make a huge difference in gameplay.  This satisfies both people who don't want to be forced to grind, and people who actually like to grind.

I've never been a big fan of PvP, so the lack of a traditional PvP is not a big deal to me.  There is still sparring between player characters, and then there's also Monster Play.  Monster Play is a lot of fun itself, but it's a bit difficult to explain.  It's basically, a deep mini-game to play.  You do quests with your monster characters, and you can grind with them too--both result in getting destiny points.  Destiny points can be used to buy your monster new skills and better stats, or it can be used for temporary buffs for your main characters (temporary experience-gain increase, temporary running speed increase, etc.).

All while having decent-good gameplay, on par with any other MMORPG I've played (if not better), LotRO also gives (hardcore)  Tolkien fans their Middle-earth.  Many NPCs, quest names, and the actual quests are either straight from the books or allude to parts of them.  If you've read the books, then I think you can double your enjoyment of the game--which is still already significant without it.

Some people gripe about not being able to have a high-magic character, and the lore of Middle-earth does not really allow for many high-powered magic-wielding Wizards (there are only 5 Wizards in all of Middle-earth--they're not human, they're maiar).  However, I think if they do enough research and try the game out, they would be satisfied.  For example, some people want to be a stereotypical mage so they can cast powerful offensive spells; this has been replaced very well by the Hunter in LotRO.  The Hunter specializes in high damage per second from a distance and they basically play like a mage class (strong ranged dps, minimal melee capabilities, warp "spells") and also have some nice ranger/hunter skills like tracking and increased movement speed (out of combat).

The classes in LotRO are pretty special.  The only classes that are 100% stereotypical would be the Guardian (the tank) and the Minstrel (the minstrel being a healer that can solo surprisingly well in a lot of situations, though not all).

The game is definitely worth trying.  And, honestly, if you like MMORPGs and you like LotR, then the game is a must-have.  It's also a must-have if you really like PvE MMORPGs; also if you really love Middle-earth.

9/10.  It's not a 10, because all things have room to improve--and I don't want Turbine to stop improving this game.

If youre that type of person who can like a game just for the atmosphere, then its a must have,

if you like RPG-s for the storyline, its a must have,

if youre a keyboard smasher action oriented player, dont buy it.

Its an mmoRPG, not just an MMO.

Ild give it a 9 in that category.

  • This game is absolutely amazing. It takes aspects from games as old as Everquest and uses them to finely polish this gem of a game. The ability to play as a monster is absolutely incredible when dealing with the depth of ideas the designers are pulling from. The graphics amaze me every time I log on for the sheer fact that even on Ultra Low it still looks better than games released a year ago, and on Ultra High look far superior to any game graphics coming out for the next year.

The ability for this game run on such low system requirements and still run smoothly is superb. I play with the sound off because it does tend to get annoying listening to stuff dieing by your hand over and over. O the screams of orcs how you annoy me! Just the way I play all games though (Except FPS).

I must say that this game is a great buy and with a content patch already coming up it shows Turbines commitment to the game.

The game is new so I can't say my review is fair, but it is fun up to the point I have currently reached.

Allready posted this in other form..but had to spread the word..lol.

Im from Holland, Europe, and im now playing this game...i dont care how many people now play this game..all i want to say is that after almost 2 years playing WOW i got tired of it and i have been looking for an replacement and found none..

Played Vanguard and did not like it..

But now Lotro...and i have the feeling back..like when WOW first came out...the feeling when youre at work and think..just a few hours and i can play this great game..sounds silly, i know..but its good to have that yearning again..lol.

Just believe me...this game is WOW but with way way way better graphics, music and admosphere...

so...if you hit level 70 in WOW...dont go grinding your live away..just wait 2 years till Blizzard makes the next update and buy Lotro...you wil not be sorry..I give it an 9 out of 10.

    got to go..playtime is starting..

    live well you all.

    David.

well said, being that you are somewhat hard on games, I approve this message.

Asking if you should buy or not buy really is not the point since a game is entirely based on personal taste and preferences.  I think the question you really wanted to ask is "Is this game a huge flop of a disappointment like so many other games have been in the last few years and will it disappoint me into oblivion?"

The answer is no, it is a good game and if you are at all interested in the story line or concept, I think you will enjoy the game.

Best MMORPG at release since WoW. Beautiful game, tons of quests, few bugs, lag free. Minimally enough content to reach the level 50 cap at launch, but regular free content addons will expand the world considerably moving forward, plus regular paid expansions in the works.

The game is already excellent and will continue to add tons of fresh content over time in a regular fashion. For me, a big plus.

    Oh, and great FUN. :)

It is one of the best mmo's I've played in over 7 years. Granted it may not be your cup of tea but to ignore the tremendous job turbine did on one of the most restrictive licenses out there , is asinine.

    who me ?
