Warning: If you are looking to buy and reading reviews on these forum

I've been on mmorpg.com awhile and if you are hardcore this thread doesn't count for you...but if you are casual then this does.

There is a lot more hardcore mmorpgers on these forums than casual players, just look at the top list for this site. WoW isn't even on the top list, because it isn't hardcore or whatever. Eve Online is a very hardcore game (at least to me it seemed like it) and that was on the top list forever until the devs were found to be cheating. There might be one or two exceptions on the top list, like guild wars is sorta casual...at least before 20, I got bored before I got to the end level so I dunno what that is like.

Casual games don't do as well on mmorpg.com. Just look at the forums, a lot of people flame WoW and the reason I hear the most is because it isn't a hard game to play, which makes it a great game for casual players.

Just letting casuals know:) If you are casual, best to find another forum for advice on a mmorpg to play. If you are hardcore player, well, stick to these forums:)

And yes I know LOTRO is on the very top, but all new mmorpgs are at the top for a few days or a few weeks and then they are voted back down usually.

just to chime in, I'm a very casual player because I go to law school, have finals soon and will be studying my butt off for the bar this summer.  Anyways, this game is perfect for me and the time I can spend on it.  I actually can get something accomplished in 30min-1hr playing, and in my book that makes it perfect for casual gamers.

I suppose I am ex hard core. I only play about 20 - 25 hours a week now, down from the 40 or so I used to play back in my UO days. I like this game because it fits my casual schedule.

    I miss DAoC

I've been playing MMOs for a long time and I have to say there is no more difficult.  There is only more time consuming.  Some games may require you to do things in groups or raids all through the game and have a steeper experience curb, but that doesn't make it more difficult.  It makes the game more time consuming.  I like an dislike games for many reasons, but difficulty is not one of them.

To the OP, I don't understand. How is EVE considered hardcore? I am a casual player and have played the game for about 3 months and have soloed my way into a Battleship. If I only have a short window of play time, then I only do a short mission. There will still be tangible progress (interms of ISK and standings gain) if I just log on and play for half and hour.

If you really want to get involved in the player-driven side of the game (alliances and such), it is an extremely hardcore game.  I played EVE for 2+ years and one of the main reasons I left was because at that level it was impossible to play, really, and not be hardcore ... and I was, well, tired of being hardcore.  You can do the Empire mission running/mining/trade/industry thing at your own pace, but if you want to get to play the meat of the game (which is the player-driven stuff), it's a very hardcore thing.

I see..... Is there any reward that is exclusively available only to the hardcore players who elect to play the "meat" of the game?

Sorry to the OP for getting off topic...

I'm ex-hardcore palyer (I was playing 50-70 hours per week), and a few of my ex-hardcore raider friends are now playing LOTRO.

I think LOTRO has more to offer than most people think. Also the MMORPG.com forums are full of posters that agree and disagree as much as any group of people do. You can't get a consensus on these forums over what color the sky is.
