While im deeply saddened and surprised by this turn of events I am happy that they're doing it for all the right reasons. They're taking a deeper look at their finished racial pairings and their zones. Thats something most mmos usually don't do until after release or during mid stages of external beta. I'll just have to keep on trucking until WAR! is released next year or Beta this summer.
It is in the newsletter but I didn't see it anywhere on their site btw.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
I don't think it will matter. Someone somewhere will still complain about any game at is current state. Doesn't matter if they release a game now or polish it more... someone will complain and flame and rant on about something.
I rather they do what they have to do to give the game a more polished feel and look to it then rush it out the door. I guess they saw how well LOTRO did vs Vangaurd and they decided that "Polish" is the way to go. IMHO that is the only way to go with MMO's. I refuse to pay for MMO's which are still in BETA.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
I am dieing to play this game. Well, any game that is fun.
The word-of-mouth interest in WAR is the greatest I have seen. I am playing Warcraft: Frozen Throne and people are discussing this title and how they want to play it now.
Nevertheless, I think it is a wise decision. It is very important to create a positive first-impression. You really cannot create, fair or not, a positive second impression.
I don't think they should have ever began this project when they did in the first place, they should have done 40k MMO first, and then the original later, when the WoW and LOTRO phase has passed. The high-fantasy genre of MMOs is pretty covered right now, it was a mistake to begin hype about WAR when they did, instead they would have done better by beginning production of their 40k IP to appeal to the vastly unsastisfied sci-fi MMOers out there, with literally no steep competition at the moment, it would have been a steal.

While I'd like to see a good Sci FI themed MMORPG come out.... that isn't the way to bet. So far they've all been pretty much minor successes at best...and hi-fantasy is still what draws more people. Not surprising they chose that franchise to develop.... it was the older of the two as well....

Not surprising they chose that franchise to develop.... it was the older of the two as well.... That's just it, you have two major successful high-fantasy MMOs out there, which are admittedly competing with each other as we speak... So why even bother to try to get in that mix... Your player base will simply be divided between 3 games. On the other hand, if you create something with a different theme and genre, with virtually no REAL great competition out there at the moment, you corner the market... From a business stand point, what makes no sense is doing the high-fantasy before the sci-fi, at this point in time. How many thousands and hundreds of thousands of disappointed MxO and SWG fans are out there, just waiting and waiting for the next big sci-fi title to come out?

i know im waiting for the next sci fi, but fallen earth looks like the next big thing there.
WAR in 2008 isn't a big suprise though. We're in what nearly May now, you probably need at least 6 months for a beta, so not suprising that its delayed.
Anyone surprised? Paul must have knocked over some server clusters while flailing his arms about during a podcast.
Hahaha, nice!
Well, I always planned to play AoC anyway. Who knows, if PVP in AoC turns out to be crap, at least I know I'll find some quality PVP in WAR, at least for a month before it becomes boring...
I don't actually wanna say this, but: I TOLD YA. Less than a week ago I got flamed for saying that I am sure it will be a spring 2008 release. All titles that are roughly planned to release during winter season are aimed for christmas. And almost all of them are delayed to the following year, or, if the publisher's wise, to the next autumn to get the cashcow going over christmas...
So yea, March/April 2008 seems realistic if the put the beta up before August, if not, I predict more delay...
I think the original poster should be banned from the forums. There's nothing wrong with the old tradition of blaming the messenger. It really doesn't help to read all the posts about how wonderful a delay is because the game will be better, more polished, yadda yadda. There haven't been any decent releases lately, and although many of you are dying to play AoC, I don't have high hopes for that title (possibly a console gamers delight, but maybe it won't be, we'll see).
So, with WAR delayed that means nothing really good on the horizon anytime soon, unless you want to play LOTRO. What the heck, it's a linear game with no real PvP, but at least everyone says it's polished, so you might have to just settle for that.
For a PvP addict, probably not... LotRO is the hell of a game, but if youre the competetive PvP type its just not your title... And polished releases for the PvP crowd HAVE been very rare during the last months/years... Theres still EvE, but if you're not into space sim technocratic combat its just a no-go, even if youre the most hardcore PvP-l33t0r the world has ever seen...

Guess I'll have to wait until I get the newsletter because I don't see it on either the homepage or War Herald.

Hasn't it been kinda obvious from day 1 that the game is coming out in 2008?
