New to GW. But have questions

RaidoreRaidore Member Posts: 4

I just have a few questions.

1.  Would starting guild wars now be to confusing?  Will I be too far behind?

2. Do I need to get all the expansion's to enjoy the game?  or can I go out and buy the first GW?  I know if I get interested I would get the Xpacs but I want to know if I need them to get started.

3. How hardcore/casual is this game?  I am looking for an online fantasy game that isnt too time consuming.. (would like to have more family time in summer)

4. What are a few website that are good for Guild Wars Info?  I looked on their official website.. but there FAQ is just about the xpacs and not the game.

5. Are the class balances pretty.... well balanced? haha.

Thanks guys.

Welcome to the game, first off.

    1) This would mostly depend on what game you got and what you were doing. For the most part, the first game (Guild Wars) is the least complex and eases players into the game nice and easy. Factions, the second game, will give you a basic rundown, then throw you to the wolves (if you can survive that, then you won't find too much to challenge you). Nightfall is somewhere between the two, and is occasionally wonky in what happens when. As for PvP (which is the same for all three games) it's best to at least play a bit of PvE before you go there. Jumping straight into the PvP, while possible, isn't highly recommended since you won't understand the basic controls just yet, you won't have a good selection of skills, and you won't have many options as far as weapons are concerned. You can unlock things quickly, but it's by far easier to learn the game via PvE.

    2) You do not need to get all the games. Each of them are stand alone with the option of linking them to a single account to increase what you can do, but I would strongly recommend only getting one of the three to start with (cheaper that way if you decide you don't like it, as well). As for which one to get, I highly recommend the first one. It has the easiest learning curve and the best skills overall for PvP.

    3) This game is very casual, but you can make it as hardcore as you'd like. You won't have to devote your life just to participate in endgame PvE content, and there are some forms of PvP which you can just jump into and play (in a sense).

    4) For information on the games, I have both of the dedicated wikipedia sites linked in my signature.

    5) Very balanced. But, it also depends greatly on how you use those classes. All I can say is that every class is usable somewhere, and mostly in PvP. The game also utilizes a secondary class for each character, and every class combination works (again, depending on how you actually use it).

    1. There are new players joining all the time so theres no worries about being new to the game.

    2. Each chapter is stand alone so you can get away with just buying one but remember that some classes are only avalible with certain chapters.

    3. I find this game casual friendly although I have yet to complete a chapter myself so i'm not 100% sure what the end game is like but  if you can't find a particular class for a mission then just add a henchman to fill the space.

    5. not really sure to be honest, just play what you want to play.
