Question about champions

in Lord of the Rings Online

I played a Champ in beta, but not too far. I think to like lvl 8.

I'm thinking about buying LotRO tomorrow and I was thinking about what class I'll take.

I vaguely remeber that Champions get Heavy armor eventually and may or may not get to wield 2 handed swords.

I'd really like to play a Champ that wields a big 2 hander.

Is it possible, and will I suffer for that choice? I remeber that a good many attacks were based around duel wielding.

    You are correct.  Champs get to wear heavy armor at level 20.  And you can be just as efficient with a two hander.  Your skills are adjusted when you equip a 2-hand weapon to trade off lower number of attack for higher bonus damage per hit.  Dual wielding is not a vital play style if you don't want to do it.

    i am currently level 12 champion and loving it, i just bought the skills to weild two handed axes maces and swords but for some reason im still using dual-wield, its a very fun class to play and i find my self just ploughing through enemies without even caring about my HP! sometimes though that does backfire but it sure is fun!

    I just reached 20 on my champion and all I have to say is wow... At 20 the class really starts to open up and truely shine. Once you reach 20 you get a really nice single target attack that does 150% of weapon damage + 88 which has a 1s recast time but requires 4 fervour... Which means you can do it about every 10 seconds. Ontop of that you get ability to use Heavy armour and wield bows also you can start using Runes, which go in your bow slot that allow you to use less power on certain skills... Perhaps new runes in the future will give other bonuses... But overall with the Heal attack you get ontop of the high DPS and Heavy armor, you can solo quite well and deal out some very nice damage in groups. I just hope they dont nerf it :)

    Damnit that sounds totally awesome and I just put a hold on my level 16 champ to pick up the Captain class for my fellowship - currently the fellowship is:

    Captain - me

    Minstrel, Guardian, 2 Champions.  We do alright  Still I miss my champ I had two awesome swords I was looking forward to at level 19... but I guess I'll Solo with him and save the Captain for the Fellowship.  So far the Captain has been cool, up til 13.  I hope the class gets much more fun/better though because Champ was just too fun.

    Thats the big fear right now... that Champs will get nerfed soon because they seem a bit too strong after they reach 20....

    Don't worry about being a captain and regretting it. I don't know how many times I had to kick in as a healer and save the group. People in my fellowship were like "Woah how did we live through that?" and our Minstrel was like "You should thank the Captain cuz I was out of power and to many people were taking damage."

    Me- Level 19 Captain waiting for my heavy armour.

    Thank you for the encouraging words, good Captain. I must admit I've had one of those glorious moments as well.  We were fighting an elite north of Breetown on Greenway and our minstrel was flat out of juice... I quickly ran to kill a nearby wolf and BOOM all are healed, Minstrel stays alive just long enough, day is saved.  Good time.

    I'm still learning to make the best use of my Herald however - I really hope in the future further customization would be available to make them just a bit better and look less like a bum.  Ever see Happy Gilmore? Reminds me of his caddy....

    Haha, you are right he does look like the caddy from Happy Gilmore. I did see a level 26 Captain with this fat Monk as his ally. Not sure what he does but he looked just like Little Jon from Robin Hood.

    I play a Champion and I think Champions are going to be nerfed, because post 20 we are just very, very strong without many weak points.

    champions are very strong yes. but ive sparred many champions and won, most of which were with my lore master. those ravens can really save your ass at times lol
