Well despite the fact that I cant play most of these games atm (crappy pc) I have been waiting to get a new pc just so I can try DDO because the combat looks so good. Other than that id say AoC is the game to look for if you want a combat oriented game. As far as older games go I wouldn't know but from what ive seen in videos old swg looks best. I also like the tactial battles of dofus its like playing chess in a MMO, its really too bad that the rest of the game is crap.
Combat is really important in MMOs its pretty much what you do the most (unless you play a non combat oriented game). I totally refuse to play games where you target a monster click it and forget it.
I would have to say that Lineage II has the best combat for PvP in any game I've played and I've played many. The combat is fast paced and skill of the player rules supreme over just randomly smashing buttons. Every different class requires that you not only know your character very well but also your opponent's strengths and weaknesses. What works against an Archer class for instance will get you owned by a Tank or a Spell Caster class. Just to bad the Grind in L2 is HORRID and the quests are pointless or it could be a #1 game instead of WoW.
