Reclamation Interview - Submit Your Questions!!!

RJCoxRJCox Member Posts: 2,686

"Our goal is to create, promote and foster a dynamic role-playing environment, where characters are someone and where their actions truly matter. We are aiming to create small tight knit communities, where role-playing is enforced and where players are given frequent and meaningful role-playing opportunities not found in other games." ~Jason Kramer, Producer of Reclamation

In the very new future I'll be doing an interview with one of the guys behind Reclamation and this is your chance to be a part of it!

Rather than just come up with all the questions on my own, I wanna hear what you wanna know about this game. Post your questions here and I'll go through and pick as many of them as I can to use in the interview. Posting a question here does not guarantee said questions will be used in the interview.

You can read the news item announceing the game by clicking here, and check out their official site by clicking here.

With Reclamation being the sequel to Underlight, how do you plan to bring new players to your world of RP-centric gaming? Underlight, released in 1998, is a niche product, and the success of any MMORPG comes down to subscribers.

What future offerings is Lyra working on, if any? What is there to look forward to after Reclamation?

Obviously, there will be a need for teachers when Reclamtion goes live.  How does Lyra plan on ordaining the first teachers in RM?

Is there any solid idea's of how Reclamtion will be distributed yet?

Are there any specific features that you guys would be able to tell us that you might be planning to implement to enhance the Roleplaying experience?

And exactly how do you plan to get rid of or deal with non-roleplayers in Reclamation?

What makes Reclamation different. I mean what are you trying to do new? Or are you using the "blueprint" and just making a prettier game.

How do you intend on making people feel more in-tune with their characters or are you relying on role-playing solely to do this? Are you going to allow us to customise the individual stats on each character and modify every strength and weakness? and are there going to be role-play stats such as how much you can drink and skills at arm-wrestling as well as extra more important skills?

In my experience the new generation of mmorpg players prefer just to play and not role-play.  Are you worried this might drive that market away from Reclamation?  Do you care?

    1.  How will the teaching system differ from the first product?

    2.  Will the foci be the same, or will there be more?  And will seers still rule the game?

    3.  Will there only be 8 houses, will the belief systems remain the same (freesoul/illumination/essence handling) or will there be more houses and ideologies?

    4.  Are the Arettian invasion in the current product tied into the new product in some way?  Is the "destroy the city" roleplay being done by some part of the leadin to Reclamation as well?

    5.  Will there be new planes to explore?  We've already seen the nightmare prototypes.  What about new areas to explore, expanding upon what is in the first product?

    6.  Can you please put clothes on the female avatars this time?  Not all of us are EQ fans image  A nicer variation would be avatar choices, then those who want to portray every man's dream girl can do so, while the rest of us can show a tad more dignity.

What is this teaching everyone is talking about?

Is this game skill-based, level based, a hybrid or is there no character advancement at all?

Which are the Houses? Can we get a small description for each? If you're not yet decided on which houses there will be in-game can we at least get a small desc of the houses that were in UL so we might get a taste of what kind of experience might be waiting for us in-game?

    Is there any economy/craft skills/loot?

How about PvP? Is it free PvP as long as characters behave IC? Will this game see any dream-bandits(or something), nightmare worshipers or just plain good ol' good vs evil, law vs chaos conflict?

The game is said to have FPS combat. Will this be a "twitchy" game?

How did that dreamstrike work in UL? I'm assuming it was a perma-kill spell. On one post made by a Lyra member, it was said that "we'll see" on the perma-death thing. Seeing as you're anyway going for a niche what is the reason that made you reconsider perma-death? What was the reaction of the players? Is there going to be a perma-death server maybe (since I already read the discussion in the forums I don't think it's likely I'll get an answer on this one anytime soon)?

What kind of equipment might be found in game? Blades, guns, armor? Are there healing/mana pots?

In a FPS game can a melee character compete with a ranged-attack user? Are there any steps taken to balance classes/skills?

What hardcoded features of Reclamation might encourage roleplaying?

Since being in a dreamworld can be kind of vague what's this game's setting, Scifi or Fantasy?
