I have Vista but I haven't tried running EQ2, so take these suggestions with a pinch of salt or as a last resort.

    1) Right click the shortcut icon you use.  Find the compatibility options and select Windows XP compatability mode.

    2) If you are running SLI, try disabiling it.  (Vista and SLI isn't that great atm)

    3) Was it a completely clean install?  I know it's tempting to restore entire programs and hope they work on the new OS but often they don't.  If it wasn't a fresh install try completely reinstalling everything.

    4) Consider running Windows XP in dual boot mode.  I've conceded that a lot of my old games (GalCiv2 being a prime example) refuse to work with Vista, so I've got a seperate partition with XP installed.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Box up your PC. Take it back where you got it. Ask for a working OS.

I'd recommend XP Pro or XP home, personally.

Nows your chance! Take it back and get a working OS - at least until the fix Vista :D

OMG!  That's wonderful!  I bought a new Dell desktop right before Vista was released, so it came with XP.  Then I decided to buy a laptop and when I went to the Dell site, they were only offering Vista.  Lo and behold, the other major manufacturers were also only offering Vista.  I complained by mail, phone and on their message boards and I wasn't the only one by far.  The systems they are allowing XP on are the ones they've had the most trouble with.  For instance, the desktops wouldn't recognize more than 2GB RAM on the 520 and 521 and there was a host of other problems also.

I finally did find a laptop with XP Home in their outlet store and it was about $600 cheaper than the new one I was configuring and had most of the features I had chosen, specifically, 2GB RAM, a 256MB video card and wireless connectivity.

If those with Vista are having problems, changing the compatibility may help, and by now, you'll probably save a lot of time going to the game's official site tech boards for tips on tweaking Vista, upgrading drivers, etc., as most problems will have been addressed.

Thanks for suggestions guyz, but managed to fix it, after looking everywhere for answers - Disabled user account control on my Dell entertaintment PC, apparently it was to do with it being unable to download eq2 files but hey its working now

*LAUGHS*  VIsta runs flawlessly on my system. On systems with Nvidia cards they have stated to use a specific driver i believe for EQ2.. That's not the OS fault. Their is not one single reason i could ever see to revert back to the XP OS.. The drawback of vista is its more system demanding but so are later software titles. Its the responsibility of software developers to keep there stuff up to date with the latest operating systems not visa versa

    yeah

was going to say, EQ2 should not be affected by Vista.  I never had a problem with it. The known MMOS that are affected by Vista is:

    • Matrix Online
    • City of Heroes/Villians
    • Lord of the Rings Online

Im sure there are others though

Actually none of these people helped you at all in fact they just took the P*ss out of you - shame really shows the maturaty of the EQ2 community.
