Are you a Carebear?

xpowderxxpowderx Member UncommonPosts: 2,078

At around the year 2000 many griefers and Pkers termed those mmo players that did not want to pvp carebears.

As someone who pvps and enjoys it i want to bring the definition carebear down to its proper due.

First as a pvper I like killing other players and other players like doing so to me. There is something i like above all else. a Equal or balanced fight. Where it heavily depends on skill rather than given gear or level.

Now as someone who has killed a many pvpers and have been killed numerous times I give you the definition of Carebear.

Carebear: Any player in pvp enviroment who intentionally kills grey cons(who offer no challenge) and intentionally runs away when challenged by someone close to or equal that Carebears level. These guys are the ultimate Carebear. They only know how to gank lowbies. They really do not have skills because how can the skill be tested if they run away from a opponent who offers them a challenge.

Just so you know, Greifers and Gankers are the opitomy of pvp. They suck, they know they really are nothing more than pathetic excuses for a mmo character.

Enjoy!

your definition is invalid as any respectable carebear would not place themselves ina pvp enviroment.

Eh im not sure about all that. when i was bored i'd kill a few lowbies just for the heck of it cause i liked the feeling of seeing more "Noobsauce has just been killing by Me" spam. Course there were often times i'd help out a grey just because i was bored.

I've seen carebears arm themselves to the teeth with the best equipment and abilities then setup there 2-3 accounts of buffbots and/or Healbots at a safe zone or a one man zerg train. Then they'd go out and kill many soloer's then call themselves the uberest pvpers in the game because they have more money and time than everyone else.

Nah, its quite valid and quite the New Definition. Although the pvp gankers and griefers dont like that label applied to them. Would I expect less? Thats like telling a scientist to try explaining evolution to a moronic ape. Griefers cannot help it that they suffer from a lack of skill.

Perhaps I should start a special Ed class just for them. How to not be a CAREBEAR.

    1. Here is another one.

    2. "OP is stupid, there is no carebear MMORPG, you all suck and need to PVE...time to be a real man." ...Yea, I can't come up with anything better.

    3. Lol.

    4. I have read every word so far.

First of all people need to get off this term carebear its nonsense, rpgs started as pve in the first place and most rpgs will always have pve because thats part of what makes any rpg a rpg rather its mmo or not, second some people prefer to group with others to fight epic monsters for instance in eq1 you could take on the evil gods in raids and etc which was alot of fun, also in groups your abilitys as your class could truly shine to help you and your group and that makes games alot more fun, newer games lack this sadly at the moment.

Secondly most of us prefer pve over pvp considering we do not need a constant ego boost from a game if you do I  seriously recommend a therapist, confidence issues is personal and no games should be personal there only games. The only reason why most people hate pve is because there is not any good pve out back in the glory days of ac, eq, and uo there was but only because it was new now we just need some more complex pve to keep us interested.

And on top of that just because some of us dont care for competition does not mean you have to put us in this category of ignorant judgement and talk us down with your silly terms, you do not know us and maybe the problem isnt us maybe the problem lies within yourselves, some of us get sick of the aggresive competition considering there is enough chaos happening in the world today.

Do not get me wrong I like to pvp only with others who are not ego freaks I like the challenge and always applaud them and shrug it off when they defeat me, and grow to do better next time if you cannot do this then that is poor sportsmanship.

Games are suppose to be fun and if you want to be aggresive to everyone you meet  in game thats your choice but dont go around making judgements on people who like pve.

I agree with you and that kind of pvp just ruins the fun of a game they are not suppose to stress you out, but I think my post has a very valid point and the term needs to fade away.

I find the term insulting as I also disagree with calling fellow gamers 'noobs'

I tend to think they border on elitist claptrap or at worse cyber rascism

people using such terms need to grow up as its a slur on ANY mmo community

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437
Absolutely and I deffinatly agree with the noob thing, it really makes people look foolish because we learn new things everyday in life and I honestly do not see how I can be upset if the elitist calls me a noob im just sitting there going ummm ok and keep on having fun.

Hm I dunno. I think I am neither a carebear nor a ganker. I love a good, tough fight, so I love going to PVP. BUT: I have rules. I dont stomp on a person who is down, I dont mock a person I defeated. I believe in the chivalry of combat. In the fight I give all I can, using all tactics to win. But when its done its done.

I dont gank the players pets or mounts to extra piss him off. My goal is to measure my strength to his, and everything else is of no interest. I feel with humans, and as such I dont want to hurt them, I want a sports contest. If you have to soccer or football teams, they do all within the rules to gain more points, but they are not supposed to humiliate each others.

Also I believe in equal powers. I see PVP like a sports game. You put 2 teams of similar size and strength against each others with some rules. (Which may include deceiving the enemy our outsmarting him.) But within these rules I give no quarter. So is that a carebear? I dunno. A person who respects himself always respects others, but that doesnt mean you fight with cotton pads.

I think PvP makes the game better but the games that have free PvP like in Eudemons Online are abnormal.
  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437
While pvp does make games more verstile and fun it also ruins pve, but hopefully in the future it wont be like this, if darkfall ever game out that would be one example of balanced pvp and pve.

I enjoy PVP but only around people of my own level, killing people below your level takes no skill and is really boring, you must have to question your man hood if you feel good about killing people who pose no threat...PVP for me is skillful fighting to see which is better...if you allready know your better? whats the point???

I'm a carebear, but I believe the sense is different.

I prefer a controlled PvP environment.  OpenPvP isn't for me, but I do enjoy PvP on the same level.  The reason I prefer a controlled environment is because all these Hardcore PvPers sit and wait for you to be at half health then grief you... They can't do that in something like a instanced scenerio that checks their level.

I'll even go so far as to agree to full loot in an instanced scenerio.

But Open PvP worldwide?  No thanks.

Meh, keep the trash-talk on Monday Night Raw, keep it out of my games....

People need to grow a thicker skin, the words noob and carebear offend you? *single tear* It's competition, that's why it's fun. Everyone needs their hands held these days and think that everyone should hug and get along. What fun is that? Pwning someone that just called me a noob is the greatest thing in life. I can think of a lot of things better than that....you need to broaden your horizons...

EDIT: also, there's a difference between a newb and a noob. - Which one are you?

I've definitely only play games with controlled PvP.... FFA could be tolerable if people played with some sense of honor...but with those players out there who prefer ganking over balanced combat... it ruins it for me.

Could care less if I'm called a Carebear... and certainly don't wrap my sense of self-worth on whether I'm "hard-core" in a video game or not.

Gamestyle is like having a bad hair day, while there is a degree of consistancy to our general play, there are days when we can all do something out of the norm. The point of that is to say that we all have it in us to be a little of everything. Pvpers- Carebears etc.

My view of a carebear is a character who wouldn't do to others what they wouldn't want done to themselves. But as always there are days when you just have to kill something and get it out of your system. So most of the time you can be a pleasant companion but become wreckless every now and then.

Similarly , I'm sure there are very good Pvpers who sometimes dont make the kill and smile as they wonder what went wrong today. Its all a matter of balance.

Now first off I'd like to say that I am a PvPer. I play games that have an open PvP environment just so I can lay the smack down on the trash talkers in a way I never could in games like EQ and WoW. I love a good challenge and almost never back down from a fight even when I'm sure I will probably get a nice dirt nap for my trouble. Now that said on to the term "Carebear". I see this term mostly used by the worst kind of scum ever to infiltrate PvP oriented games. Usually it's the guy with his freshly e-bayed +20 armor of ultimate protection and +20 sword of noob-slaying that use it. Or the high level guy that puts on a lower level suit of armor and goes and flags on newbies then calls them carebears because they are smart enough not to hit back. Here's my definition of the word.....

Carebear - A person that plays just to have fun playing the game the way it was intended to be played while not interfering with others enjoyment of the same game. Well-adjusted normal person.

Non-Carebear - A person that has no fun and ultimately sucks at playing the game the way it was intended to be played so they go on a personal quest to make sure NO ONE has fun playing the game. Egocentric Megalomaniac.

That is the 2 types in a nutshell. So on to your question - Am I a Carebear? Even though I do love PvP and a good fight against a challenging opponent.........Yes I am and I say that with PRIDE!

pve cant take a backseat to pvp on the simple grounds that you need pve more than you need pvp.  pve is waht defines most of the game. pvp is there to add challenge and to feed the competitive nature that most people have. most not all tho. i think good pvp with good pve is the best but neither should be taking a backseat as some suggest. a pure pvp game would get old reaaallly fast. but a pure pve game wouldnt cus of continually added content.  im not a big pvp player i dont spend the day looking for pvp i play the pve and if i see some interesting not wholly onesided ppv happening i jump in and have a laugh and a good exciting time. but most of the week its the pve grind to advance my char. im mainly looking forward to warhammer cus the pvp system in it interests me enuf to want to get into the pvp there, but the pve will have to be equally interesting.

we need to stop assuming ones better than the other, they rely on each other equally to make a well rounded game. its the players who will dictate the one they prefer and either make it the best environment or the onesided crap that it could devolve into.

just my 2 cents not flaming enyone etc etc.
