Just thought we should have a poll like this, mainly because I'm looking for a good rpg to play while waiting for EQ2.
I reached the poll limit of 10 answers, so if you have a game thats not on here, just explain why you think its a good game, that will work as well!
After you vote, please explain why you chose it.
No cartoony games like Ragnarok Online or Fairyland...
No beta's...
Stick to fantasy games only.

I will start. I voted UO. I was addicted to Ultima Online for 5 years. It's like chocolate covered crack!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Many features and expansions later its still going strong. Good skill and pvp system. Own houses, tame animals, fish... You think it, you can do it!

AC1. 100X better then EQ. Only reason it didnt have more people is because Sony money suckin advertisin sendin marketin fools. And then well. DAoC was worse then both...Soo....

I had to cast my vote for UO. Altho I no longer play the game, no other game has come close to holding me for so long. Played it for six years and just recently left the game. During that time I've played most every MMORPG on the market and none held my interest for more than a few months.
UO is not a level grinding game, not about hunt-kill-rest-repeat. You can go mining or kill dragons. Tailor a new outfit or crawl around a dungeon. Go fishing on your own boat or hang around your house with some friends.
The downside for me has been the AoS expansion really took a lot of the old fun about the game out for me, thus the reason for leaving. Hopefully there will be another game someday that can compare. EQ to AO are all the same games just different environments.

Voted for Final fantasy XI. The community is what makes it in my opinion. More mature, less kids. Very nice to play in.
Also, best graphics in a fantasy MMORPG. Many people will say graphics dont matter, but I, for one, needs good graphics so I can feel like I'm "in" the world.

I voted EQ, not because I have love for it but because EQ is the one that brought online gaming into the mainstream consciousness.
UO's initial attraction was to those who had played the Ultima series of single-player games. Although I had played them, the tales of uncontrolled pvp ganking kept me away from UO and may have been what sent a lot of people to AC.
I read a lot about both of those games. PvP kept me away from UO, and what seemed to be a serious learning curve kept me away from both of them. I've never played AC but I recently did give UO a go. I didn't like it - not the graphics and not the gameplay. I guess I have already been programmed into "leveling" mode.
When EQ was released, it attracted many players from UO, AC, The Realm, and every other online game, text and graphic, for various reasons. Even 5 years after release, there are still approximately 400,000 subscribers to EQ. I doubt any other game can boast that level of subscribers. As EQ hides its server populations, it's tough to tell how many people are logged on at any one time, and no doubt many subscribers have multiple accounts or are inactive, but the bottom line is, EQ has become the benchmark against which every other mmorpg is measured (and usually found lacking).
The poll only limits you to 10 answers, so were full. I picked the most pop fantasy games out there.

My favorite Fantasy game of all time would have to be Dragon Raja.
Many people would disagree though, maybe it's just me being easily amused that keeps me stuck to that game, it has a nice community and so many different skills to master, and out of the thousands of characters, no one has yet to reach the highest level.
Just thought I'd state my opinion here. I'm out. .

EQ. The sense of community and havint to group and work as a team to get what you want done. The UI was easy to adapt too. Graphics and Gameplay are both awsome. Has history, and a HUGE world.
FFX11 Has teamwork but the sense of community is HORRIBlE, so is the UI. Just thought i might say that not to buy that game.

UO, I played it for 3 years...
I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy it, it was the best MMORPG for me, but not anymore.
But it is for me still the best MMORPG of all time, because it was the only one that I played so long.
I played:
DAOC
Shadowbane
FFXI
Lineage 2
Horizons
SWG
After UO I played DaoC for 1 year, I loved the grouping, and hunting was more fun then UO, the different races where fun too, but still I was missing the UO feeling.
I would still playing it, if they didn't ruin the game.
If you would ask what the best game on the moment is, well....uhmmm...
None I am still waiting for something that has the same feeling as UO in the old days.
AC, hands down, everything else is a distant second.
And you forgot Meridian 59 to...

Because about 20 times as many people play it? I enjoyed AC a great deal myself but once I gave EQ a try I never thought twice about AC again.
