Factions or Nightfall
I got the game last week and I am already lvl 15 with about 20 more missions to finish the storyline (I know, I still got a ways to go) Anyways, I already got expansion fever and am looking at the 2 expansions. I don't know which i should buy next. I will be buying it in about a week or two. I like both but can't afford both right now.
To help you help me, here is what I like doing. I like soloing content, and am into the PvE aspect more then PvP. I like henchmen but hate how they absolutly suck and make stupid decision that kill the whole team. I enjoy PvP but haven't liked it so far with Guild Wars, probably haven't gotten bite by the pvp bug yet. I enjoy teaming but most ppl wanna do a lvl 20 team and be run thru. I want to actually enjoy the content and not be run thru. Knowing this about me, what you say, Factions or Nightfall.

Nightfall, hands down.
The Heroes are very nice to have if you're going to be playing alone a lot, although at first they won't have a lot of skills (Heroes have access to any skill you have unlocked on your account, like a PvP Only character would). Nightfall is also better for the PvE minded player, as the content there is generally considered better than that in Factions (which isn't really bad, it's just not spectacular and Factions PvE is mildly irritating).
All things considered, that's generally the best chapter path to take. Prophecies > Nightfall > Factions.
Oh, one thing to note *BEFORE* you buy your next chapter. Each of them is a stand alone game (or is at least intended to be), so you will have 2 places to start a new character, and old characters will have to take a quest to get to a new area (Tyrian born characters will get quests in Lion's Arch, Elonian born characters will get quests in Kamadan after they've completed Consulate Docks).

Factions because you get alliance battles which are the greatest thing ever. Plus it gives you more insight into the story which you need for Nightfall if you are into the story.
i did not know alliance battles are faction only. because that is where i spend most of my time. i think nightfall is the better choice for someone who is new to guildwars. great storyline and challenging pve Instances. but if you are pvp player and alliance battles are factions only then its definitly factions to prefer.
Its easy... you prefer PvP = Factions you prefer PvE = Nightfall like both get them both!

You said you prefer PvE so I'd recommend Nightfall. It's a great campaign, and the Heroes are awesome, especially since you already said you liked soloing.
But for cryin' out loud, slow down man, it's not supposed to be a hardcore game...
Heroes are definitely a plus in favor of Nightfall. But do enjoy and finish Prophecies first.
