My MOM plays MMOs !

Ok guys, I am in shock. I normaly wouldnt post this but this is sign, lol. Ok Brad Hope you see this post.

Yes people, my 67 old mom plays MMOS, lol.

I brought her LOTRO preodrer. I knew she was looking for a new game. So i say to myself I get her LOTRO, the game is very simple and not demanding, she will like this game. Alittle history on my mom gaming, put this way she and I never play the same games. She disliked EQ, lineage II, starwars and some other stupid games, that I cant even want to remember, lol. OK she liked WOW, EQ2 and some other ones.

She been playing LOTRO for a month, today i got a phone call from her. Omg, i almost had heart attack, she brought VG, lol.

I gave her my buddy key, so she can see the game, about 5 days ago.  I never thought she do this, lol.I asked her, what happen with LOTRO? She told me the game is too stupid and boring. I again almost died on the spot. Guys my mom is the biggest causal player around, lol.

If my mom thinks LOTRO is boring, that game is in trouble by the end of the year. Then I asked her, why VG, trust me I couldnt wait to hear this, lol. She said VG has so much to do, she was really happy to find a game that had so many differant options, so many ways of doing things. She kept saying what most here and I been saying. Nothing is telling me I must do this. I do whatever I want to do.

But I be honest, I dont she last long, but she did surpise me today, and maybe later on too, lol.

If you see a Nerco with a shamy telling the necro to slow down, thats not me, haha.

    Cool.  Interesting story.

Your mother and I have something in common; I had no complaints about LotR but the game failed to capture me, excite me.  It is easy, which is a positive in many ways.  However, did not hold my attention for very long.  I played every class to at least level 8, which I do when I BETA games.  I just felt as if the game was a console game that an 11-year old could play.

My point is that I need a more sophisticated game, a larger world, and even a spice of an unpredictable environment and challenge.

My parents don't even use computers, let alone the Internet, let alone MMOs.

Not sure what to think of old women playing video games. It's a new era, I won't judge.

I remember playing Star Wars Galaxies a long time ago.. sitting in the hospital grinding down doctor.. i was talking to this girl in-game... turned out she was a 67 year old retired legal secretary who fell in love with games after the lawyer she worked for tried to destroy them... go figure! How cool though... i tried to get my parents into gaming.. my father would rather watch Sci-FI movies instead.. and my mother? Who knows.. she says fast paced games make her nervous.. but i've gotten her into zuma and the likes... maybe.... in about 10 years..

It happens more than you might realize. I'm a mother and 51 years old. Played EQ1 for six years, was in the #2 raiding guild on our server. Played WoW with the #1 raid guild on a pve server, Alliance side. Played EQ2 and now Vanguard. A friend of mine who is turning 60 this year has played WoW over 2 years (doesn't raid).

    I love MMOs!

Hah! this guy posts 3 times, and one of his '3' posts is to point out a spelling error to someone who obviously learned English as a second language.

It's folks like him that have me fearing for the lack  tolerance in this world.

    Thank you,

    zWolf -out.

Not to mention that as a proper noun "Jesus Christ" should always be capitalised.

(And no, the "s" in capitalised isn't a spelling error :p)

LOL 49 year old female here .  Started playing mmo's about 3 years ago when eq2 came out.  AIl I  use to play all those single games were you  play through once then  look for another one.  I hated the idea of paying a service fee.  So while I was talking to one of my tenants (I'm a building manager) he talked me into trying it. I  loved it.  I love the social aspects of the mmo world.  Meeting and talking to people from all walks of life.

And now I play Vanguard and have been playing since beta 2.3.  I  love the crafting and adventuering aspects of the game.  I hope it manages to weather all the bumps in the road and maybe soe taking over won't be so bad.  We will all just have to wait and see what happens.

    Awesome

I introduced my mom to gaming many years ago. Now she can't live without them hehe. She's more into games where you build, manage and destroy stuff though, not MMOs. Having seen her crack the whip and work her workers without mercy in various RTS games, I'm certain she was a warlord or something in a previous life. Or maybe it's just payback for all those years living with my dad, having to cook, clean the house and iron his shirts

My wife is into MMOs though. In fact, she's leveling up her mage in WoW right now as I type this

I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Thats ok my cat plays MMOs. He prefers VSoH also. I think it is because it is a sand box game.

Um, should I or shouldn't I. Well here it goes, I am a Mom I have three daughters and 5 grandkids and I play MMOs all the time. My girls never got into playing cept for 1, who sadly doesn't have the money to play so she doesn't get to have fun like I do.  I am retired/disabled so I have lots of time on my hands ( when they work). MMOs help keep me young and my mind active. So even us oldsters can still learn things and have fun no matter what our age our hearts will always be young as long as we play MMOs.  I bet your going to ask my age now, young at heart  about 18 and over 40 but not dead yet  :)

So to all you kids out there that think you have a run of MMOs think again, we are at your heels and around every corner.  Oh and btw I have been playing MMOs for close to 7 years. You ask what games I play now.. just look for the name in game you just might find me there.

This guy is a complete shill. If you ever read his other posts, they involve bashing people that complain that VG performs horribly (which it does). He has claimed that his "antiquated" machine can run it, when there are many more people with BETTER machines that still can't run it satisfactorily.

This is obviously a contrived anecdote to get people to believe that LOTRO is an inferior product to VG (I don't like LOTRO at all, but I can't say that it's an inferior product with a good conscience.).

In some ways it is: The gameplay and crafting are not as complex, while there is no diplomacy system. The good thing about LOTRO, however, is that it has more content (many more quests, an achievement system that encourages exploration) PvP on demand at endgame (Monster Play) along with a very flushed out story line that is shown throughout the game.

I almost preordered LOTRO, because it ran so much better than VG without the crashing to desktop heartaches, but then I realized that it was just the better performance and graphics that I hadn't been used to.

It's "you were old enough" not "you old enough" or what Different said...

You know.... since we're really cracking down all of a sudden on spelling and grammar all of a sudden.

No, actually he meant "I would HAVE (not of) thought...".  He was using a phonetic spelling that is a common mistake among teenagers. The phrase "to think somebody old" is grammatically correct, but somewhat archaic.
