Best pvp mmorpg out there?

Ive played EQ, AO and CoH now and getting really tired of PvE mmorpg's. Im really looking for something more pvp oriented.

Some people said Daoc was the best but imo its getting kinda old and worn out now to start playing. So what would you people recomend! :)

What kinda PvP are you looking for?

IMO if your allready counting out DAoC as to old and worn out then you might as well wait for something new, like Dragon Empires or Darkfall Online.

Once again, IMO, DAoC offers the best PvP if you want groups fighting each other, plus I think DAoC holds up just fine graphics wise not to mention it is getting a complete graphics update in the near future.

SWG offers fun Group PvP if you like a more Sci Fi feel to your battles, but it isnt as common as in DAoC. The most fun battles I have encountered in MMos have been in SWG, but in 4 months of playing I have only seen this extremely fun large scale PvP 2 or 3 times.

I havnt played AC, or UO so won't comment on them other then it seems those games glory days are in the past from what gets posted.

One other that offers large scale and individual PvP is Liniage 2, but IMO this is one of the worst games on the market once the awe of the great graphics wear off.

Great subject, lets see what others say.

I found the Neocron (Which may be more MMOFPS) was very good for PvP. You got large battles over outposts etc and there was a fight nearly every few hours somewhere or other that you could join in with. of course the people who PvP tend to have maxed out characters which takes some work to get that far.

There are Fung Wan Online. A guild based PvP game playing in far east with a lot of different PvP modi which have some similarities with UT. like CTF (steal the relict and bring it in your guild base), DOM (Take the enemies towns and hold them), TDM (Guild wars) and so on.
Random PKing will imbuing severe penalties upon the offender.
This game requires you to play at least once per week else you get autokicked out of your guild.

There is Darkfall Online. A race based PvP (TDM) with skill based advancement instead of levels. It is still pre alpha.

There is Dark and Light a good vs evil PvP game. AFAIK it is skill based and it is in beta.
It is a sort of UT mode DOM (taking and holding mana nodes or how they are called.)

I do use some terms from UT to explain the generic PvP mode in the PvP game.
CTF = Capture the Flag (get the enemy flag into your base)
DOM = Dominion (take over and holding a special location) (Similar to BF1942)
DM = Deathmatch (You can kill everything that you see)
TDM = Team Deathmatch (You can kill everything except members of your team, guild, race or side and similarities)

    Betatested:
AC2; Lords of Everquest; Horizons; Fung Wan Online; Wish; Saga of Ryzom.

    Played:
EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (semi retired); SWG (retired); Shadowbane (Retired); UO free shards (retired)

    Attempt to test or play:
    Darkfall; EQ2; Dark & Light.

It's lineage 2 no matter whatever someone else says. The game is fully open pvp, you can pvp anywhere but towns, although item drops could be higher to add more fun. Game is 50$ retail, but if you want something cheaper...hrm I really can't come up with anything else.

Don't play neocron, community sucks, there is hardly 800 people at server prime-time.

I would advice Dark and Light (huge organized RvR PvP) , Guild Wars (very balanced, fun and strategic PvP, although on smaller scale - at least in E3 demo) or maybe World of Warcraft (Blizzard is very good at balance and thats extremely important for PvP).

I would reccomend against SWG - it has very fun PvP, but unfortunately it also has a ridiculous amount of combat/profession related bugs and serious balance issues.

I would also reccomedt against Lineage 2 - too much of level grind there and you said you are getting sick of PvE so why play a game with one of the very hardest leveling systems out there with deleveling and xp loss too?

(Guild Wars demo and SWG judgements are my personal experiences of hardcore PvPer, rest based on various site info and suggestions/advice heard from others.)

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

Right now the only game other than Necron offer crappy stat based PVP and boring ass clicking action. If you are like me you don't have the time to get the level 1000 character and get the best weapons on the game, you prefer skill based mmorpgs.

Neocron was a good start but the game is too buggy, all of the auctual good pvpers have left. Also not to mention the developers are pretty dumb so it goes nerf one class, fix it, nerf another, fix it, repeat process. If only Neocron was built better it would have been the best PVP game out right now with a nice blend of stat/skill being it is an fps game.

Lineage 2 is just some click fest, yea it is open pvp but unless you can commit tons of hours and time finding items and leveling in super fun click and watch it happen action you will get killed. Basically it is just a stat pvp + roll of the dice, no real player skill. SWG is pretty much the same way just with guns and starwars stuff.

To be honest wait the good mmorpgs with promised PVP are "Face of Man Kind" for you RP/FPS sci-fi fans. "Dark and Light" for a sword/magic sort of fighting, promises town battles and sieges. Guild Wars says pvp is all it is about and could be promising.

So in closing just wait for a good mmorpg to come out, the ones out now are just anime freak games with huge level grinds and click fests.

Neocron was really good, its not straight fps either you have to aim first like deus ex or something.  There were many different strategies and tactics from the different classes and a still important (but fast) leveling sytem  It has the best system for pvp but unfortunately like HNlecter says the devs are really dumb and have ruined both the balance and the fun of pvp (by taking away decent rewards for winning)  And also like Bearish says its been going downhill for a while now in terms of players.

Unless you're lucky enough to get into the beta test for one of the upcoming PvP mmorpg's already listed I'd say it's either Shadowbane or Daoc.  Shadowbane has extremely fast lvling and constant open pvp with alot of guild warfare and city sieges, but the graphics are sub-par and PvE content is all but non-existent.

Daoc on the other hand will take a lil longer to get a high lvl char, and even when u do to be really good in pvp you need to spend hours farming Realm pts.  But the graphics in Daoc are much better, and there is actually some PvE content to keep u entertained when tired of killing.  (Personally I never tire of kiling but I've heard that some ppl do image)

Dark and Light, Darkfall, Dragon Empires, World of Warcraft, Adellion, Atriarch, Irith, Mourning, Risk Your Life, Guild Wars, and Trials of Ascension are all upcoming PvP games.  Check em out.

Oh and Lineage II sux! image

Shadowbane has good character development, and fastest leveling of any major mmorpg. They are introducing a resource system for thier next patch, and there will be a lot of changes for the game over the summer.

    The other games = grind

Lineage 2 is NOT the best PvP game out there.  I have been playing since open beta and the only PvP I have seen is when people were quiting after open beta so they trashed their characters.

You kill one person without them fighting back and yuou go red, which means you WILL drop items when you die, and it could be that sword you just farmed for a month to get.

Also, the death penalty is BAD in Lineage 2.  If it was a PvE game it wouldn't be so bad.  But at level 30 I lose 2 hours of grinding because of one death, and I could still drop that sword that I farmed for a month.

It is a CAREBEAR PvP system.  Nobody PvPs because:

1-They don't want to go red.

2-They don't want to die and lose hours of grinding, or even weeks if your equipment drops.

you might want to give Eve: Second Genesis a look.

You can PvP anywhere only catch is that the police might come after you if you do it the wrong place. But anyone can be killed anywhere.

Its not your average mmorpg though as you fly around in spaceships but the first time you hop into your shiny new cruiser or battleship you will be hooked. The penalty for dying can be steep if you are not careful.

But as far as PvP go it's the most exciting game I've played. Beats DAOC in my experience. You get a much bigger kick when you got something to lose and there's nothing like watching 50 ships slugging it out (if the lag don't kill you ;))
