I've been playing warcraft since its release and I'm getting bored of it. Graphics are old and if I want to experience anymore endgame content I have to devote my life to the game... no thanks. I noticed Lord of the rings is on the top of the ratings but it just got released and I'm already hearing reports that the gameplay is very boring, plus its LOTR and who wouldn't want to check that out... any recommendations for a new MMO?

Nope nothing , everything new is a WoW clone and everything old is trash for one reason or another. What im doing till something "good" comes out:
1) Shadowbane - free and decent pvp, bad graphics though..
2) Guild Wars - free (once you buy it) and decent all-around, if boring at times.
3) Various FPS games, mainly CS:S.
Seeing Tom Bombadil makes me all tingly inside, so I get a kick out of playing the game.
"...and with that cryptic comment, I'm off to bed!"
Rappelz is the best of the free to play games out there. Great graphics, decent enough game play, and at least a few interesting quests to break up the grind.
EverQuest 2 is the best of the pay to play games, bar none. It's evolved into an excellent game which holds appeal to every kind of player.

LMAO what the hell are you talking about?L LOTRO genre breaking? How does it break the genre AT ALL? It is a rehash of the EQ1, EQ2, WoW, etc. Now it does those things well but if you want something different from WoW, LOTRo is not it!
If you are tired of the standard target and click combat system of all the MMO's out there, I reccommend DDO & PS for some nice fast action that you don't have to devote your life too.
Just my opinion btw, neithe one of those are perfect but they sure beat the hell outta the current crop of clones.

He said LOTRO is *not* the next genre breaking game. You might want to read the posts you are flaming...
I think you'll find he pointed out that LoTRO was NOT going to be the next genre breaking MMO, I almost made the same mistake though
I would reccomend possibly Vanguard. I found it far better than WoW (way cooler classes etc) and the quests were of a similar nature, but had enough sort of variation to keep me happy for a month or so!
Whoever posted Shadowbane Good choice, even though the graphics are indeed dated, the game is still fairly exciting and it's nice and easy to get a high lvl char and compete (should only take 2 or 3 days to get a lvl 70 if you find a decent guild)
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
DDO for best combat in a game (DDO's combat system is far superior to any other, anyone who disagrees hasn't really played ddo :P)
DDO got repetitive quick, and stinks for soloing, but the combat system is freakin' awesome.. I myself am about to try 9 dragons, i'm just waiting for AOC or WAR to come out and in that slump we all are.. try DDO you MIGHT like it,
COH/COV is also a great mmo with no real economy tho, it's superfun and great character creation. The lack of loot makes people all get along too..
Vanguard- ( make up your own mind here..too much hoopla and falderal... you be the judge)
EQ 2- proven track record, came out about the same time as WoW
DAOC-a fairly old MMO, but has a strong fan base
Ryzom- very strange and unusual game, but has very unique qualities not found in other games
Eve-difficult learning curve I have read, but very popular game
Lineage 2- if you're an old FPSer and love bang bang shoot'em up PvP action, then L 2 is your game, 3 years old but is still the best open PvP game in the business. Down side..slowest grind in the business
Games to look forward to;
Warhammer
Age of Conan
Tabula Rasa
Aion
That should do it. Good luck to you!

Just gimme some truth

well out of the various mmo's ive personally tried i can pck 2 very different ones for you to try and both have free trials.
EvE - Well this game is huge and it will take you at least 15 years to do everything inthis one. Its a sci fi space based MMO where currently your avitar is the ship you are flying [and there are a lot of them]. its also primarily a PvP game with limited newbie protection so do the tutorial. Eve is also on one server so its one community typically it gas around 25 thousand people online at once with a total of 168 thousand accounts.
Everquest 2 echos of faydark - A good fantasy game about as old as WoW but more origonal as its based closely on everquest 1 which wow copied from [among other games]. Like wow this is another level grind based game exept the game world ahs a more realistic look to it. It is also a lot bigger in size. The quests are well designed true there are a lot of kil 10 spiders for reward type of issions but they are well presented. It also ahs open PvP on some servers.
when i got bored of wow i started a search to find a better mmo.
I heard people saying that the mmo market was flooded...
so i tried a bunch of other mmo's and realized that wow was miles and miles better than any other mmo game out there...
so i think in retrospect, the mmo market may be flooded, just not with half decent mmos...
in my opinion, the only good mmo on the market right now is wow...

RYL until AoC and Tabula Rasa come out.

I found Lord of the Rings online too linear/forced. No world to explore. The lack of PvP. No housing, etc.
I played WoW, and I returned after I quit Vanguard but played for a few hours. It bored the heck out of me. The "Quests" are virtually all tasks and the end-game faction grind and zerg-raiding is my worst nightmare in MMORPGs. When I played WoW, I loved the environmental PvP but they removed that.
If you have been playing WoW since release, you really need to try City of Heroes Its totally different. CoH is alot more fast paced, more exciting, great community, and just...different.
You can have your own base with a supergroup, and the character customization is leaps and bounds above all. Its just a bit different as there is no "loot" in which you can wear to change your look, or increase skills. Instead, you buy "enhancements" to increase the skill effectiveness, but they bear no change to your appearance.
There is no race either. But, instead of classes there are archtypes. Each archetype has 5 or 6 powersets from you to choose from (like Fire tank, or ice tank) each with a primary and secondary (So Fire/Ice tank, or Ice/fire tank, etc) So you still get good customization. Instead of mounts, you get travel powers at level 14. You can have flight, super speed, super jump, teleportation etc.
Also, NO expansions. They have free "issues" that come out, (Issue 9 just came out last week). The latest one added a little bit of crafting, and an auction house. Also, BOTH games are on sale together for around $30, and you only have to pay 1 subscription fee. The villains have their own archetype, own world, looks. Heroes and Villains share a couple zones where they can duke it out, so there is PvP also.
I could Keep explaining forever, but If you are looking for something different than WoW, CoH/V is your game.
