Questions About GW

mgarcia85mgarcia85 Member Posts: 31
I'm thinking about buying Guild Wars Trilogy, or i guess so. Basically what do i need?

Regular Guild Wars, Factions, Prophecies & Nightfall? Thats four games that i need to buy in order to experience it all? Or am i missing something.

Also have some other questions, like what is the level cap, it used to be 20 i think; has that changed?

What is the HERO Class?

How is the assassin Class?

Anyways Thanks - Mark

    Welcome to Guild Wars.

Currently, there are 3 Chapters that can each be played as a stand alone or combined to form a semi-expansion. Those games are Guild Wars, GW: Factions, and GW: Nightfall. You only actually need one of them to play, but you need all 3 to get everything. Rather complicated, so go check the links in my sig for more info about that and each individual chapter.

Level cap is still 20, although there are rumors about a level cap increase for Guild Wars: Eye of the North. Nothing concrete, but it's there.

The Assassin class is one of the hardest classes to play due to its play style and special skills. You'll need to have GW: Factions to play an assassin, but they have the highest spike damage potential of any of the 10 classes.

Heroes are not a class but rather a customizable NPC Henchman. You will need to own GW: Nightfall to have access to Heroes. They can be very powerful, as you can change their skills, secondary classes, and weapons. Not to mention further customizing their armor with upgrades.

The game is fairly complex, so don't be afraid to ask questions. image

Level cap increase in GW:EN? Hmm last time I checked they said it would only offer content for maxed out player, meaning it would be the first actual expansion (i.e. not stand-alone). Though that's it. Higher level cap would mean imbalance in PvP between people having GW:EN and the others.

The campaign referred to as "Prophecies" is actually "Guild Wars", first installment. It became known as "Guild Wars: Prophecies" once the second campaign "Guild Wars: Factions" came out, though I don't know if the box's artwork has been changed.

That's sweet - when are you on?  Because 9 times out of 10, I can't get any one to answer my questions with the exception of two kindhearted people whom I dislike bugging all the time!

Despite that, I like GW so far!

I've had GW (just the original so far) loaded up and been playing about once a week for about 6-8 weeks.  The graphix are awesome.  My learning curve was a little slow due to being a long time EQ player (who never got above 31, LOL) and GW really flattened me with the unrestrained posting.  I do love the fact that my combat zones are MY combat zones unless I ask someone else to play along.  Since I have always preferred single play, the Heroes aspect is HUGE for me because I can get partners without having to beg for them, and I think it's also faster than dealing with a variety of personalities.

I also don't miss crafting like on EQ2.  Nope, not at all.

I tend to agree, actually. I only mentioned it since it's such a hot talking point. It's a line taken from that PC Gamer article, in which they state that GW:EN will offer character development beyond level 20. It implies a higher level cap, but does not actually say so. I actually hope they do *not* raise the cap for GW1 as that would A) imbalance PvP, and B) generally break earlier PvE content. I'm very curious as to what they're going to do, though, since they're obviously going to do something.

Ah, I remember back in the day I didn't know hardly anything. It took me a few days to even understand how to use guild speak.

If you want some extra help I'll gladly lend a hand. IGN is Kelis Key and I'm on randomly throughout the day.

Hi! I'm also a new player and I really think that this is a great game. Though be patient if people are not too helpful and tend to ignore you sometimes but what the hey! it's probably one of the best you'll ever play graphics wise. I also only bought Prophecies for now and since it's the cheapest, i would suggest you try it  first if the game suits your taste.

As the others mentioned there are only three for now Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. Prophecies is the original Guild Wars package and most likely the cheapest. it comes with 6 classes only and you can build tons of skills with each class. You can choose 2 classes in game. Start with a primary one and later choose your secondary, this brings up a lot of options in character creation for you to experiment one you've gotten around the game.

Level Cap is still 20. The assasin class is available in later expansions and not in Prophecies. Chekc out the main web site for more info but basically, you'll enjoy the game if you hate overcrowded combat areas since when you leave town, you either play alone or with the player party you invited with and this means that you don't have to wait for the servers to respawn just to look for things to kill.

The towns are usually packed with people, especially the American servers so you'll have some interaction. Once in game, you can also hook up with a guild to help you with the ins and outs of the game and ask somebody to join you in your quests so you don't have to adventure alone. Some might be helpful enough to give you somehting to start with so you don't have to start the game from scratch (gold takes a lot of time to build).

Hope this helps in your decision. You can also sne me a private message if you still have more questions as a new player, you'll also have a fresh perspective on how I learned the ins and outs of the game and could probably help you decide if this is a game for you or not.

Not quite DeRuben. You're getting GW2 (which will be slightly more WoW-like in that it's not fully instanced) and GW:EN (the upcoming expansion for GW1 which will be just like current GW) mixed up.

Ahhhh more like WoW! That sucks! I really like Guild Wars playing style becuase I dont have to ask random noobs to help me all the time and that I dont have to fear constant respones that might kill me at any given second. Also walking into a city is kind of lame becuase have you ever played WoW? I have and it LAG's! Oh my god it never ends even with Cable Internet it still lags! Thats what I thought Guild Wars had an edge on was becuase it had different servers that made sure the lag was prevented!

Anyways I'm almost done with Nightfall just got to get the Primeval armor and a couple of more titles and ill be finally able to try out the other two since Nightfall was my first one but does anybody know any news on what the new classes are going to be In Eye Of The North? I heard they were going to be different races which I thought was gay becuase Guild Wars was always a human based game. bassically no matter how wierd you look your still a good old fashion human!

But now that I heard the news of different races Im afriad its going to go all gay and be like WoW where no one plays humans but rather the panzy elves or other retarted races! Can anybody feel me in on the news about the races for me?

    No new classes in GW:EN.

They'll introduce new races but those won't be playable until GW2.
  • VGJusticeVGJustice Member Posts: 640

White-Eyes, I highly recommend going to this link and finding the magazine that's in your area. Not all of the races are announced yet, but there's also a GREAT deal of information about both Guild Wars 2 and GW:EN.

Also, I'd like to point out that GW2 is only WoW-like in that it's not fully instanced (like WoW), and that it's quest and mission based rather than a flat out grind fest (again, like WoW). And yes, I've played WoW as well, and I know exactly what you're talking about with the lag in certain cities (which sucks hard, since it's server lag not connection lag). To me, it sounds like A.Net has a lot of ideas for GW2, and it's impossible to know what they're going to do. Beta is slated for sometime in '08, so it'll be a while before we even know for sure.

From what i read in PC Gamer, GW2 sounds a bit like WoW. GW2 will not get rid of instances, but they will now have persistent areas where people can meet with each other and slaughter local wildlife.

But anyway, GW2 still sounds cool, and i will definitely buy it when it comes out. :)
