Dead when dead?

Hi there

Is there an MMORPG where you die when you die?

I don't want to play games anymore where you just spawn again seconds later.

It would be refreshing with a little real death.

oooh - there hasnt been a perma-death thread so far this week until now

people dont like to 'invest' many hours developing a char to loose it due to lag (more usually incompetance), ganking, or relying on another player to heal them who couldnt tell the difference between their ass and their elbow.

    ( o )( o )

you can go champion in wurm if you want.  after 3 deaths that character is dead for good.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    Hmmm...

I would like to try a game where people have to think twice before going into battle.

i wish there was permadeath on an MMO

i know that darkfall was suposed to have that but i am not sure if they put it

adelion as well but again im not sure that game still exists or it has been stoped from producion.

the closest thing i can imagine that you would like would be either

EVE when your ship gets destroyed you loose everything on the ship (parts mods upgrades shields) that could of taken you months even years to get. also if your excape pod gets destroyed you loose all your implants that to begin with can cost you your lifetime savings in the game. then you clone back to your insurance clone thing...

then yopu have ultima online where you dont have permadeath but if you get killed you are free to be looted EVERYTHING you own.

    here is an example

you just got a kick ass armour with a super sword. you are a rich man so you decide to build  a mansion.

you finnaly spend GAZILION gold to make your super house and put a UNPICKABLE lock  with fancy golden stuff inside with a dungeon where you put the rest of your fortune.

you go out of your door and travel to the nearest city. you encounter lots of mobs, you are weak after the fight. a low lvl stabs you with a knife and you die. he loots you and steals your hosue key and goes out to look for  your house, steals everything and your a poor feller on the street begging for a few bucks.

so those are the only 2 games i can think of

you have some skill lose on death, and looting in wurm(mainly in PvP though goblins can steal your weapons if you die to them).

granted if you join for those reasons you're going to get burnt because at it's core wurm is about crafting.  from every city(except two), to all items(except for holiday events).

edit: yes cities are destroyable, and lootable too.  it is limited to a semi-RvR thingy(temple of three, and the insane one)

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

If you can do without the massive part of massive multiplayer online roleplaying game - try some Neverwinter Nights' servers.

there should be but it requires a different type of game to the grind-grind-grind type of game most mmorpgs are.

That's exactly on target. Permanent death is illogical in a situation where you have to slaughter thousands of creatures to succeed, each of which could kill you with the slightest bit of unresponsiveness on your part or a companion's part.

Totally agree and people can't seem to get past that grind mentality in their minds when thinking about perma-death BECAUSE they are putting all of their thought on current mmorpg's leveling or skillset grinding treadmill of progression. If they think a little outside of the box they would be more open to it. I'm all for it, and it will be implemented. Granted it'll be a more niche game and not for the "masses" but that's the way I see some very good games currently in development. Mine included; www.forceofarms.com
