If the 'choice' goes outside the parameters of the game world I'm all for it not being in the game. Stuff that just gets shoved in just because they can do it and not because it fits in the world always causes chaos and not in the good way. They've techincallly not said yay or nay on crafting yet. We don't know how much customization is in the game. Honestly if your looking for 'world building' you can play shadowbane or horizons both of which are techincally failures or even UO which is ancient and hell on earth to travel through thanks to houses being frigging Everywhere. I dont know how many times I got stuck or lost in housing areas with a monster smacking me on the head. Sometimes too much choice = to many bugs to fix. I want my choices to fit in the scope of the game play and the game world. If this was an Ultima Online style game then I would be sorely disappointed by the lack of choices, but its not. I personally never found a use for housing i was always out exploring and actually playing the game. If you use the 'but i can hang my trophies there excuse WAR has already mentioned battle trophies are things you can wear like heads on spikes for the orcs. Besides what would you do with your house when say the enemy takes over your capital and you lose access to just about everything? Cry? Bitch? Moan?
But that's the thing, isn't it?! Choices are for people to choose from not for YOU to use EVERY choice, or like every choice.
WAR can turn out to be a great and fun game, even for a long run, but the lack of choices after you win the war for 27th time and you loose it again, because that's the nature of the beast, has to start to show, and adding new battlefronts in expansions can easily turn into WoW adding new end game dungeons, ok for some people who liked it in the first place, but shity for most of the playerbase who actualy likes diversity.
Who knows, maybe the game will get so flamed by the old table top players that there will be noone left on the servers besides WoW PVP realms refugees

I'm just saying that claiming you are right doesen't realy make you right.
well put. I was a fan of SWG but then noob hunters sprang up... one of my freinds was followed by a band of them from server to server until he just gave up the game a month after he got it. I admit I did like player cities but they are more trouble then rhey are worth in most cases IMO.
Well a big proably is that these features cause even MORE LAg when having a 100 vs 100 or 300 vs 300 or 200 vs 200 vs 200 battle . A LOT of lag even, and this si why it has a sigma attached ... because it makes pvping not so much fun.
AOC is dealing with this in a neat way but making player build areas instanced.
As ti standes now that have a PVP area but that not the player build area i do not think .. thats the premade structures area no? I think the player mades will fight like npc attacks and such.
Any real confrimation , not people (poster thinking what they WANT) on this? (I got a vid that says this but i may have missed one.)

I just hope that they manage to make up for lack of quanity with some realy awseome quality.
I 100% agree but i ask a simple question what more important to you? A player made city or class and character customization (So far WAR has way more than AOC).
Personally id rather pass on the player made cities like many game have tryed to do ... poorly FOR really customizable classes/toons. Most of what i see is not a total defense of WAr doesn't need that (this is often present) but you purposfully ignore the other side, however, WAr doesn't need these because of ..... WAr doesn't need player made kingdoms becuase there is already a "WAR" kingdom your fighting over (thats the purpose). I am not saying that is is better then player made however, often included is the fact that in many ways WAr is takign some of the aspects that housing allows a player to experience and transfering it to the character itself.
In anycase, i agree i wish WAr had more choices ... 24 classes i want the 70+ they had orginally thought to do. Still i BETTER see at least 6-12 new classes in the first x-pack.

Hehe , sorry.
But really you coudl aslo go play D&L or horizons or SB , because you know player made kingdoms/ cities automatically make a game good.

Seriously, WAR is just WOW with factional PVP implemented from the getgo. And what they have like 4 classes for each faction. Exciting...... Id rather play AOC, DF, or hell even SWG.
What is the point of an MMO where you just run around doing whatever you want? This does not sound like an RPG... it sounds like Grand Theft Auto with bows and arrows. Also, when u can run around doing what you want too, you will miss probably miss the actual good content because you have no idea what you are doing.
AoC too me sounds like a lazily made game. Any MMO that says "good do what you want to" to me is just saying "sorry we were too lazy to actually make in depth content, but u can still run around our big world like a chicken with its head cut off."

Ya, but each race has 4 different classes altogether each are entirely different. Some might have the same role but not nearly the same types of abilities, and whats with this being a WoW knockoff? If you actually read what WAR is doing differently you'd be surprised.

It is going to have the same PvP system as DAoC, just revamped, and better. It's going to be a very different game, with PvP as the focus, not End-Game PvE raiding.

As for towns, they are nice but suck getting destroyed. So spend 2 months building it then a guild raids it at midnight and in 1 night its gone. SWG bases did it right with needing a certain time to destroy it.
CoV also started out well with the Super Group bases, unfortunately they didn't pan out like Cryptic had hoped. The Super Group that owned the base set a specific time frame where they could be raided. Only during that time could an enemy group raid the base. Losing your town/city/player owned structures at midnight while you sleep or at noon while you are working is stupid.
You mean like what Shadowbane and Star Wars Galaxies tried to do? Yeah, no thanks. I'll pass on that. WAR may add player housing, but you won't have player owned cities like in Shadowbane. You also will not fight members of your side outside of dueling. This is a nice attempt at bashing WAR, but sadly failed. Look at both games that have tried player owned cities. They didn't do so hot. To me, player owned cities that can be destroyed is a highly over-rated system. And based on how both Shadowbane and SWG did, I'd have to say quite a few people also feel the same way. Destroyable cities are a wet dream to gold farming companies.
As an aside....WAR is all about WAR. The entire game is based on an epic war between the forces of Order trying to preserve what little is left of the world and the forces of destruction that ultimately want to plunge the world into complete darkness. Warhammer Online is all war all the time.
SWG has never failed in that department wether you like it or not.
SWG was, before CU, one of the most popular MMO games out there also mainly because of its player housing and city features.
SWG failed bigtime with its crappy pvp system and the cities werent attackable so its not really pvp player cities.

Choices are great I love choices, the thing is if you give players TO many choices something is bound to fail and its usually the one thing that destroys the entire game. Personally from my knowledge of table top player cities aren't really part of WAR war is all about fighting again and again sacking other armies. There's "I took your base" but its only for that sencario and players didn't lose any gold for losing that base.

So far all the table top and WAR RPG players that come here and are on the WAR forums are really excited about everything thats going into the game. They're happy its sticking to what the game is meant for.

I'm just saying that claiming you are right doesen't realy make you right.
BTW I never claimed I was right. I gave my opinion or did you fail to notice this? I never once said OH WAR is gonna suck if its not my way I just said what I like. You really need some serious help in reading Seth or are all your posts always attempts to shoot people down? It seems to be a pattern with you.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
Why all this reading into the post and crap? This deserves a simple answer: No to epic kingdoms and Yes to epic wars.
Well said.
If you want guild/player controlled 'kingdoms' try Age of Conan. Warhammer is approaching PvP in a different way with RvR and community/server-wide cooperation against the opposing side. Read up on the FAQs about the game and this post wouldn't have even been necessary.
Some people will like WAR's PVP more, some people will like it less. I think we're fortunate to have so many cool games coming out soon so we'll be able to pick which one we want play based on which one matches our tastes the best.
For too long MMORPGs have only appealed to one taste - hardcore timesink players. Now all those other gamers who avoided MMORPGs for so long are coming into the genre, but you can't expect one game to be everything. Each game will have it's own approach, find which one you like, but don't try to force a game to be something it's not or claim it 'sucks' because it's not made the way *you* want.
There are a lot more choices out there now, we no longer have to try to force every aspect of every other game onto each game. Every game would just be a generic blob then, give me differences and let me make my choice.
You mean like what Shadowbane and Star Wars Galaxies tried to do? Yeah, no thanks. I'll pass on that. WAR may add player housing, but you won't have player owned cities like in Shadowbane. SWG failed bigtime with its crappy pvp system and the cities werent attackable so its not really pvp player cities. SWG did right in not having plauer cities attackable. Having your house destroyed overnight would have sucked. SWG pvp systems weren't awesome but the beat most systems out there(potbs being the best new system imo). It was a diamond in the rough just needing polish. Player bases owned and were fun to defend and attack.
The problem with the OP idea is the story behind it all. Take greenskins for example, they're divided into groups, all lead by on big guy. There's just no room for the groups to go into smaller groups as there's a bloody WAR going on already. While the idea might suit AoC and such, WAR is already made just like that, the difference is that they won't allow YOU to play Morglum Necksnapper or Grimgor Ironhide As they have too much cool... And also have fought their way to the top..
So, well, in a way you have it, just not as chaotic as you want it.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.
The need for sides/factions comes from the fact that if you do not give large masses of players a common goal to band together and move towards the game has a high chance of turning into pvp anarchy over night, with too many random pointless skirmishes, breeding people griefers becomes inevitable as the pshychopaths of pvp will rule supreme and they will be the only model of behaviour that spells, a sad, success.
Having a common threat that needs defeating is one of the main ingredients in a pvp recipe for success, and DAOC proved that, that's why they are trying to implement it in WAR and hopefully the impact of that system in a 2008 release will be a player delight.

SWG was, before CU, one of the most popular MMO games out there also mainly because of its player housing and city features.
SWG failed bigtime with its crappy pvp system and the cities werent attackable so its not really pvp player cities.
While the idea might suit AoC and such, WAR is already made just like that,
the difference is that they won't allow YOU to play Morglum Necksnapper or Grimgor Ironhide
As they have too much cool...
