WURM is a great concept, but is this game any fun without paying the monthly fee?

Wurm will be great even if you don't pay. You will have a skillcap of 20 (99 is max), and there are some things you can't build, can't seem to remember what.

It looks like an interesting game. I’m not sure how but somehow I've managed to overlook it thus far. I can't wait to give it a try.

Did I see correctly that it has no animations in it?

It do have animations, just not on everything, they recently added animations to alot of things. Wurm is a work in progress, with a small team working on it. But im suprised that they can keep the game as bug free as it is.

A tip if you start playing, use the wurmwiki, i always have it running in the background. Just search for any item you need to do and it will show you what you need for it. Also contains guides and info about the game. It also used to have a newbie guide, but it seems to be deleted.

I have tryed it for a month or so, and i cant get the hang of it.

As i always loose myself in the woods, i dont get anything done. When i meet people they chase me away and scream that i did cut down their tree or something.

Is there any event or "guild" i could join to get some noob help?

The guilds in wrum are the villages you can join, if you want to join one. just post a thread about it on the official forum under the "Town Cryer",

there is always villages looking for people. Some of them are very good at helping newbies.

Oh ok, I see. Sounds great, I'm defiantly going to give it a try.

    Thanks for the tip

    join the wild server

semi-RvR with item looting, town sieging, flattening of towns, skill loss on death,  all based around the crafting of your town and gear.

if you want to build a house because this spot looks nice build a house there(or even a town).  sick of going around a mountain terraform a ramp or mine through it.

also has a homeserver that has extremely restricted PvP as in it doesn't happen.

a little player made add www.filecram.com/swf/466691.htm

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Also, to explain about the servers. When you start the game you will end up on home, you won't choose server at the start of the game as usual. To be able to get to wild, you will have to walk as far west (could be changed on the new map) as possible. Then you will get a message saying "if you continue to swim this direction you will end up on a new island". I've said this to reduce the confusion of not beeing able to select a server.

Seems like there's some very cool ideas in Wurm.
