I couldn't put this in the review section because I was told my ranking isn't high enough. Kinda reminds me of the security guards when I tried entering Perez Park at level 6. OK, so I made level 7 to go to PP, and I am posting here to try and increase my MMORPG.com ranking. Seems kinda like...uhh..well is this real life or is it ...whatever, here is my review of CoH.....
First, I am a male age 41 and my wife and I play online games together.....we have two kids..one in the Marines...and a 15 year old daughter. My wife and I are both college graduates (2 masters degree's and 3 Bachelor's between us) and our our annual houshold income is $100K. OK that gives you some reference as to who is posting. I hope that doesn't sound like bragging because it really isn't. WQe consider ourselves pretty normal, albeit maybe not for the "gaming" comunity".
My wife and I just spent about a total of 24 hours over the three day weekend (maybe longer) playing this game after buying it on Thursday evening. We love it!!!!! We have been playing EQ for the past three years and have really become quite tired of EQ. It had gotten to a point where playing became more of a hassle than it is worth. Getting online and spending an hour trying to find something or somewhere to go that we can do in a couple/three hours. Either that or plan an event for a week in advance.
Well, with CoH you'll have none of that...just pop on and play. Grab a mission and go....My wife and I made "fire and ice" blasters. We log on and go. We have yet to group with anyone because well quite frankly, we have been having fun just doing our own thing. We have joined a superteam (guild for all you EQ'ers) made up of our old guildies from EQ so we will be grouping with them soon.
The simplicity of the game is it's appeal. There are no long drawn out quests...there is no camping of mobs for loot...as a matter of fact, there is no loot....or money...sort of. You have your super powers and you continually try to make your hero stronger by "enhancing" those powers. Powers can "autodrop" from mobs, or you can buy them from your "contacts" with OK so the money in CoH is called influence. whatever...
Creating your Hero is almsot as much fun as actually playing. So many choices. I have yet to see two characters that look alike. Sometimes my wife and I will just sit in a high population area and look at other characters and see how creative people are with their names and costumes. My favorite so far is a character called "The Principle". He walks around with a suit and tie with a stupid grin on his face...hilarious!!!
All in all the game is fun, and if you only like jumpin on for an hour or two at a time without the hassle of trying to "find a group" (I hear finding groups is easy in CoH and I believe it because I do constantly get invites to groups), or deciding where to go kill, or which mob to camp...then I suggest you give CoH a try.

Very nice post Igzidyous....
I agree. I have played every game (or beta tested) and sum up CoH in one word. "Fun" Isn't that why we play computer games?

CoH is a fun game. It would be better if I could get my wife to play.
Playing: WoW
Retired: EQ, SB, EVE, SWG, CoH, EQ2
Hubby and I play together, we picked up the game last Tuesday. We've done nothing but laugh the entire time. Even as we die we're laughing. I swear I saw the Blue Tick fly by me yesterday. Great game!

the fast paced action has ruined me for toher mmorpg's, ive tried going back to DaoC and shadowbane and i just cant do it.
on a side note, you guys need to ask for a raise..each with masters degree?
I play with my wife and we have been playing for about a week now. The game is fun but I can see it may get kind of boring.
I am really looking forward to the pvp.
THis game is great yes lvl grindin can does get dam annoying but in this game especailly trhough time will be worth it. this game is new out compared to ones before and one of the best content etc balance wise thats come out.
Pvp is comin with City of Villians will add whole new or should dynamic to the game mmos ya need pateince or alto of things need patience. this game is totaly worth it. if ya dont like it ya dont like it. if ya do wanna getaway form th grindin for a while play somethin else a fps lol or soemthin. This game is dam fun and have laughed my ass off a couple of times. Somw eird crap happens lol.
When I first played it for about a month it was the best MMO I have ever tried and played...I loved it to death, then it started to dawn on me that this game is all the same from lvl 1 to lvl 37 (with one toon).. For alot of people its a blast at first then it just dies out and puts you to sleep.. Great game if your a casual game, waste of Money if your looking for a game with alot of depth..

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. Second, you are not a lot of people.
Simple the same ole stuff from beginning to end... While the Mobs change in tatics and what they do(hell but this is how it is in every MMO).. The repetativeness comes in the form of what you can do... Which is either fight outdoors or fight indoors (thats it).. Oh I forgot there going to have PVP, but thats 6 freaking months from now atleast..... As I said before the end game was reached far to early in this game (2 1/2 weeks after release on several servers.. if that doesnt speak volumes about a game I dont know what does...When people are FARMING your END GAME BOSS 2 1/2 half weeks after release whats left for them to do? reroll? Overall this game is paper thin with its poor design of pet's (which are rip offs of other archtypes ARMOR lol) all the way to its cheesy go hunt 10 of this at this location.. (which you will see constantly)...
As for me not being alot of people Alient, as usually your right (not) but you can scan these forums and see how many people are dissatisfied with this game.. Which is alot if you ask me, hell I helped create the hype meter for this game way back in beta when it was ranked under games like Dark and Light..And I will be here to see it fall back down to where it really belongs which is in about the 7.3 scale.
But hey dont take my word people Please oh Please go out and get the game for yourself...As the say the proof is in the pudding.. But dont be suprised if in about 1 month of getting the game your wishing your never did.

Tinybina, I already have the game and have been playing a few months already. I don't see the game in the same light as you. You keep mentioning all there is to do is inside and outside missions. That's about every other MMORPG out there that has a mission system. I don't see your point. This isn't my first MMOG and probably won't be my last. My biggest plus for CoH is that it's not another EQ clone. I'm sorry that you hyped a game before giving it time if you like it or not. You have called me a fanboi many times and I have yet recommended this game over any other. You're bitter because you were expecting something else. Since I didn't jump the bandwagon early on and hype the game, I had no expectations for it and I like it for what it is and not for what it isn't. I have seen quite a few posts on this site that goes along with your feelings, but I have seen more go on the side that they like the game. This game is not for everyone and I know it. I'm just tired of hearing all the crappy arguments that don't hold up. I rather hear someone just say they don't like it then to go on giving false information or irrelevant information about the game. Yes, some people want to know why, but if you say it has no content or that's it's just inside and outside missions or that lvl 7 through 35 is the same, I'm going to argue with you because none of those arguments hold up. If you say I like choosing items to use instead of power sets, then I wouldn't be able to argue with you. If you say you like crafting, PvP, or other things not in this game and you think it needs to be in a MMORPG for you to be happy, I won't be able to argue with you then either because it's your personal opinion and there are others that will have the same opinion as you and then realize that this game is not for them also. I have no problem with people's opinions, but things like content is not an opinion to me. It has content. You just don't like the content.
I have to agree with the poster. This game is just pure fun. Everything else was left out!
I cancelled my other games (cancelled EQ again and maybe for the last time) and been playing this non-stop since April. I suspect I will come up for air when WoW and EQ2 comes out but until then...
See you in Paragon City heroes!

I've been playing CoH since beta and find that it is best described as Diablo X an MMORPG. It has a definite fast paced hack and slash feel, yet you get some of the MMO benefits. And being a casual gamer (15-25hrs a week) I find I can log on and get to playing immediately. I love that.
The few times that I've logged on and felt like I didn't really want to play, I would roll up a new alt, or play one of my existing alts, and have a blast! I am worried about the end game for 2 reasons.
1. Once you reach lv 50, there really isn't much left to do. There's only 1 "raid" type mob to hunt.
2. The scaling of xp requirements is pretty high toward the final levels from 30 to 40 already, so I worry about how bad it will be fore 40 to 50. It may be a deal breaker.
All in all, a very fun game.
