Actually, what that picture reminded me of most was the World of Darkness pen and paper Role Playing Game published by White Wolf. The text of the letter and the picutre linked is extremly similar to a lot of their sourcebooks. Go look up the main book "The World of Darkness" or the other sourcebooks, Werewolf: The Forsaken, Vampire: The Requiem, Mage: The Awakening, or Promethian: The (something, can't remember the title).
that would be interesting if that were the case..for them to start some kind of bizarre viral-marketing program for their upcoming MMORPG 4 years before it came out by making us all paranoid wrecks doubting what is real and what isn't about our world.
and BTW, it's Promethian: The Created (IMO one of the more inspired IP's they came up with).
another FYI now that it hits me, Undying used that same kind of "scrapbook" effect in their suppliment that came with the game so it's not hard to think the three pieces are at least connected stylistically.
And when you think about it, this type of random email fits in perfectly with the ambiance of the game.
Or at least what we all hope the ambience of the game will be..I think it's still up in the air if they're using oWOD or nWOD background to create the MMO. I'm still personally betting on the nWOD setting because it would provide an interesting dynamic to get people "into" the game. Example:
1. You create your entirely human character with which you navigate the "starter" levels with...these end based on the mission line you take that will cause your "change" to Vampire/Werewolf/Mage (I don't see them having all the IP in the 1st release, just the Ttrinity)
2. You then go on to take care of your intra-faction missions against the iconic enemies of your character type while catching glimpses oof the other PC characters. Bear in mind at these "lower" levels your still emeshed in the shadow-games of your own group so cross group PvP probably won't be available.
3. You advance enough for the faction elders to offer you missions that involve goal that may run coutner to the other factoions, but only if you wish to take them because there is still plenty of high level work to do intra-faction as well as intra-faction PvP for prestige and specialty items.
pretty simplified but there you have the probable structure of the game.
I think it's just another Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy.
"I used to think the worst thing in life was to be all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone." Robin Williams
That pic somehow reminds me of a non mmo game, and for the life of me i cant remember the title. Resident evil sort of game, set in a haunted estate in Ireland i think. I'll post again when i remember the name.
Okay, the other guy is wrong about the game, it's Clive Barker's Undying that your thinking of...even it it wasn't the best FPS/RPGish game of it's time, Clive's storytelling work on it was...it was a very creepy game. Thanks Max, thats exactly what i was trying to remember. Excellent creepiness
your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
Given that someone mentioned Clive Barkers Undying, I was reminded immediately of his forthcoming game, Jericho.
But, in the meantime, at least I have something to occupy myself with besides making posts here, and waiting for a worthwhile MMO to come out.
Edit Other useless crap.
2012 circled on pic, and individual sending the email refers to themselves as HS 20121221, Dec 21, 2012, the date the world ends per the Mayan or Aztec calender.
The Latin on the seal is Xpisti Sigillvm Militivm or Knights of the order and protection of Christ, basically. Which is The Knights Templar. It is also used by the Freemasons, who are often tied to the Illuminati, which is mentioned in one of the bits of French.
The etwas uber einen "Krieg der Finsternis" at the bottom translates roughly to Greater than the "War of the Darkness".
Doesn't it seem a bit odd that a search for the English phrases in Google (with quotes) returns nothing?
So either this is really new, or the OP is the only one to receive it. Most hoaxes and viruses can easily be searched for...
BUT it also is pretty weird that whoever sent the thing hosted the picture on flickr. Especially since the message is pretty confidential, even though the author does claim that it was sent to others.
I haven't read Cell (by Stephen King?) yet, but from what I've read about it, people get a phone call all at the same time and it turns them into zombies or something. Maybe this game supposedly will do that, all in an attempt for Satan to build an army for Armageddon.
It's also wierd that this "document" is in various languages. I don't know of any legit texts written in all kinds of languages on the same paper.
Ok, so I checked the pic at flickr. It was posted by thehiddenplaces.
So I google thehiddenplaces, and get a hit on an old blog post from back in 2005 about a sreenplay, and a new game, and the websites thedarkplaces and thehiddenplaces.com(neither site worked). Anyway, I hit the home link on the blog, and was taken to the current blog of one Ragnar Tornquist.
Ragnar Tornquist is the Norwegian gent behind Dreamfall: TLJ, and worked on Anarchy Online. He works for Funcom. Could be random coincidence, mind you.
But...
Couple of choices here.
Someone is screwing with you. It's the beginning of a marketing campaign for the other MMO that Funcom is doing besides Age of Conan. It's related to a sequel to Dreamfall(which to me seems the most likely, as it certainly fits into the type of story they told in Dreamfall)
I will do some more digging, and see what else I can drum up, though.
oooooo a mystery...i really hope we can find out whats going on...i was gonna try and rack my brain but i see that Coldmeat has already done all the brain racking...i hope we can find more clues....and Coldmeat mentioned about the senders e-mail address...OP if you still have it can you paste it so we all can see who sent it...it might bring up more clues.
Etwas über einen 'Krieg der Finsternis', is German and translates to: 'something about a 'War of Darkness'.
Oh and 'Amundsen faut det under Isesn' strikes me as being one of the scandinavian languages, but I can't really say which one or what they translate to.
There are two scraps of text written in French, and if one were to look carefully, the squiggly lines, exactly in the middle of the english 'poem-thingy' is hebrew, as far as I know. Would be fun if someone were to translate the rest, even if this is all fake.
Originally posted by the9thcircle Based on the clues posted in this thread I would guess it is about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_Online Its the right guy, a setting that the message could fit into, and (maybe) the right time to get a viral marketing campaign going.
Ah, thanks, that's the other MMO FC is working on. Given that the email address is the.hidden.spaces. and the pic was uploaded by thehiddenspaces, which points to Ragnar Tornquist, I'd say it's related to The World, or the upcoming episodic content from Dreamfall.
Now, I didn't finish Dreamfall, but I don't recall any references to the Illuminati, or the Mayan calender, etc. But I could be wrong, and the new content/sequel could have a storyline unrelated to the original one.
Either someone is screwing with you, which is most likely, or the best MMORPG ever created will come out on December 21, 2012 and nobody gets to play it because the world ends.
Hahaha yea whatever dude rolls eyes. People say thats when the world ends or the year of peace blah blah blah same old stuff writtein in many religions.

"amundsen faut det under isen" can be roughly translated to "amundsen found it under the ice" and could be refering to maybe a artifact of some power, a hidden civilization or a continent i guess...didnt read it all , just stumpled on the scandinavian part
Maybe the four lines in the poem lead to an URL somehow? A grim odd arcane sky Any god I mark sacred A masked cry adoring A dreamy sick dragon
Like I already said, the lines are anagrams of each other, but they do all have the letters "com" in them so I suppose you may be right. Hmm... Next time I have to do a poem in English class, I may try an anagram thing....
Off topic: Wewt, this is my 34th post, the one that gave me five stars and the status of "Elite Member."
-The four main statements do not make much sense on their own, they appear to all be anagrams of the same letters, aaacddegikmnorrsy. It is possible another anagram statement can be made from those letters that does fit. Possible anagram words include: era, year, dark, darken, saga, sage, grim, dread, dead, academy, anagram, crimson, cyanide, god, demigod, masonry, mason, arise, arisen, dying, enigma, maniac, misery, carnage, dirge, dying, karma, mercy, sigma,
-2012 is circled and underlined on the lefy, 2012 AD happens to be the year the Ancient Mayans predicted the world would end. On the right, the fourth age is reffered to, which is again referenced in many cultures as the end of life as we know it.
- at the bottom, in German is: Greater than the "War of Darkness"
-above that is the wax seal for the Knights Templar, also used by the freemasons
-near the symbol for infinity, in French, are the statements: What does it mean? Who are the eight?
-In the center is a phrase in Hebrew, I don't have a tool that will translate. The runes, as nearly as I can make them out, are the symbols for the letters: Samech Yud Chet (unknown) Aleph Chet Yud Nun Chaf
-top left, Spanish: How is the Illuminate involved? The Illuminate are a semi mythical group often linked with the freemasons and involved in many conspiracy theories.
-top right: Amundsen found it under the ice Roald Amundsen led the first sucessfull expedition to the South Pole.
-Phrases on the page, as near as I can make them out, open for more... experienced translation: "Amundsen faut det under isen" "Qu'est e que ca veut dire?" "Qui sont les herts?" "Etwas uber einen 'Krieg der fiusternes'" "De que maners eston unreuerades les Illuminate?"
-The link appears to have originally come from a particular developer from Funcom, makers of Dreamfall and Anarchy Online. Funcom is due to eventually release a sequel to Dreamfall: The longest Journey, and the MMORPG The World Online, either of which may or may not fit this scenario. Because of its release point, the MMO seems more likely.

I'm curious, what was the email address of the sender?
Aw man, it's about midnight here and I'll have a terrible time trying to sleep after all of this. Oh well.
I'll go pray about it, if it's anything real, I hope God will reveal it.
