Turbine has released a new article that introduces players to the various classes that are available for Monster Play, Lord of the Rings Online's answer to PvP.
I think we all know that the not-so-secret spice that makes many games so compelling is having a goal to achieve. Preferably, that goal is tantalizing to reach for, satisfying when you achieve it, and progressive step on the path of challenge and reward.
When we started designing our monster play classes, we wanted to design a set of classes which were playable from the start, but offered advancement options for players to kick them up a notch.
We wanted to keep the classes and races distinctive and novel-but also approachable and fun to play even for a little while. You can go in-depth with each class, but it is also easy to switch out and try another. At launch, we're offering five different monsters that you can play. Who knows what the future will hold?

Monsterplay is not PvP because players hide behind NPCs and let the NPCs do all of the fighting for them.
Also, there is no control on the population in ettenmoors. People can freely switch between players and monster characters to join the winning side.
PvMP is poorly designed and executed.
Do not play LotRO for monsterplay. Play LotRO if you want an easy well scripted quest driven PVE game.
I see your point but the proof is in the pudding. When it can actually start when some characters hit the high levels needed then will be the time to judge its success. further more both sides can hide behind or use the NPC tactically and this will improve PvP not diminish it. From what I have seen so far it makes for a new way of pvp so it may not be for every one but i think it works well within the ethos (and probably the brief given for the games designers) of LOTR Angmar.
