I'm a long time Pre-CU/ CU swg vet and miss the game a whole lot. I've tried all the mainstream MMOs and was hoping vanguard would do it for me but as we all know it fell on its face. I'd love a game to play for when I dont feel like playing counterstrike. I'm up to d/l and try anything. I'm currently downloading Ragnarok but any other suggestion would be great.

I like a hostile PvP enviroment but not something where I'm ganked every other second. I'm also not a fan of games were theres limited classes and everyones basically the same. Throw some titles out there, scifi or fantesy it doesnt matter.

I cant wait for Dragonball Online... and pls excuse my horrible spelling idk whats wrong with me today.

Keep your eye on Tabula Rasa my friend.............

The gameplay and evironment remind me a lot of classic SWG. Check out the video and interview with Richard Garriot on G4 tv and you will see what I mean. It definitely looks hot.

I would try Gunz Online (North American site), its considered an mmo but i find it to be more like cs in the sense that you join a server and people host games on said server.

Im waiting for an mmo being done by Colony Studios, but its not slated for release till '09.

Have you tried Eve, Guild Wars, or DAoC?

You really won't be able to find much that's worth your money except for maybe Guild Wars.

Also, I wouldn't follow the advice of trying Gunz Online - it's a complete waste of harddrive space.

It's NOT an MMO - It's like a little free-for-all game with really bad mechanics.

I've done DAoC, Guildwars, and EVE I didnt like any of them. Guildwars feels too Diablo (which I played for 2 years on and off). Ever I couldnt stand that you couldnt get out of your ship or fly it yourself. DAoC felt just plain too old and linear.

Hehe its funny my game hope list is:

    Fallout 3 MMO

    Fallen Earth

    Dragonball Online

Any other ideas guys? Beleive me I've been in that SWG boat since CU quit... I had so much hope vanguard was the savior.

I agree, there are a lot of really nice PvP driven games coming up, I've been keeping my eye on Warhammer online.

If you dont want to wait, you should look into a few older games that have been successful. Dark age of Camelot is probably one of the most PvP driven MMORPGs you'll find. Some of the servers are a little barren, but with some research you can find a guild that still participates in RvR (real vs. realm)

Age of Connan looks pretty exciting too, look around, you'll find something.

**saw that you said you didn't like DAoC, if you felt it was too linear you should try it again. There has been a lot of changes**

Hmmms Roma Victor seems to be intriging anyone tried it? Looks like a classes game with an open world where you train in what ever you wait...

I didnt play on a classic server for DAoC but the concept didnt really grasp me.

i too am a swg vet, and am looking for an online game, much like the op ive tried all the usual suspects and none really measure up. Im looking forward to fallen earth if it doesnt turn into vapour ware and roba victor looks good, think its gonna b next one I try
  • r0nin89r0nin89 Member Posts: 34
Word on the street is that Roma Victor is horrible. Ragnarok just finished downloading and I dont like it. I tried to look past the bad character creation, camera angle, and cartoony graphics and tried the game and its just dumb. I'm gonna try Saga of Ryzom see what thats like next... Any suggestions anyone?

Auto assault  is actually a fun game if your computer can handle it. Dose have some cons, not a lot of people playing it, quest kinda suck, real fast paced. But might be worth a download to try its pvp is fun just driving around shooting stuff up is fun.  Planetside is good way to kill some time since you like fps, mmo choices that have good pvp is limited right now. Personally I'm waiting on WAR, hope it lives up to its hype.

Roma Victor has all the ingredients to be a tasty game, but it just came out flat. I really did want to enjoy it but it lacked in a lot of areas where I don't have the time to wait it out. It's a harsh spot to be in coming from classic swg and trying to find something new. We have to be some of the pickiest people having played that game, sometimes I feel like I'm over measuring other games now, but then, game designers can feel free to make a decent game. Someone said to wait for a bit of the new crop of games on their way, and I'll have to agree with that.

Age of Conan looks to be a good one for large guilds, if you have a nice rig. Warhammer should have nice RvR, but it could get stale with if the progression through it's world to the higher tiers of battle don't change up a bit. I'm waiting for Gods and Heroes myself, though almost all of it's features are opposite of what I look for, something about it has been reeling me in. Again, I'd agree that it would be a good idea to wait for one of these new mmos to come out, get in when it's young so you don't have to drop in and be one of the 'noobs' amongst the 'leet' crowed and you can take your time to progress and enjoy the game.

Never give up and never surrender!

I don't believe there is a game like SWG other then perhaps Ultima Online.  The Star Wars name probably brought in a lot of new people who exprienced this game as their first MMO and thought all MMOs should be like it.  Unfortunatly there isn't a high demand for games where you can live  an average life on a planent.  Most games are geared twords going on adventures and fighting evil monsters.

I think Saga of Ryzom will do it for me just because of the huge world and open skills system.
