I wish this was Greek. :(

My only problem with Gods and Heroes is that it's Roman and not Greek.

It may sound like a small complaint, but why would they base it around Rome, who basically assimilated Greek Mythology into their Culture?

Even the Greek Gods' names are better:

Zeus > Jupiter.  Poseidon > Neptune. Hades > Pluto.

Does anyone agree with me? Or am I all wet?

I wholly agree, as a Greek/Roman mythology buff I really can't understand why they went with the Roman Empire whilst making a game where you fight mythological creatures, IMO Greek myth would add more content, lore and races (lest not forget Romans were  xenophobic imperialists ).  When you think of Rome you think of the Empire, great wars, accomplishments during Pax Romana....   I dunno. *shrug*

No it's not a small complaint, you're exactly right.  Since Roman mythology is essentially borrowed from Greek mythology, it boggles the mind that they would make the setting Rome.  Even though you can base the game on Roman mythology, it seems that you are limiting its depth by excluding many of the great stories from Greek mythology.  The only explanation I can come up with is that the devs are bigger fans of Roman History than of Greek.

They made it pretty clear in a post awhile back that they're aware of the Greek influence, not like they're excluding anything. Remember also, that other nations will be added for the nation vs nation feature they have planned. Each nation that is added will have their own items, region, mythology, minions, and other goodies, so we're not actually missing out. Also, with the setting being primarily from the Roman center, they can add more familiar regions and people, like from further north and south.

I think Rome is a great starting point, with the possibility to add Greece down the road. The setting itself can certainly handle either, and has more of a "historical" feeling (tempered with mythology) than high fantasy (such as WoW, EQ, etc). I too look forward to the more familiar Greek dieties.

I sure hope they don't add spartans as a playable nation/faction/whatever or we'll have a bunch of the 300 imitators running around going "Spartaaaaaaa!!" all the time. Would probably be amusing a little while but then it'd just get annoying.
